Good interview with Sheridan. It doesn't sound like based on his comments in this article that we're getting more adventures with James, Margaret and John Dutton. He intended 1883 to be a one and done series.

It sounds like he wants to move on to 1932 So I'm not sure what the continuation of these characters will be.

The bit that's in the episode of Yellowstone S4 that I mentioned in a previous post takes place in 1893, so maybe we'll get some episodes that will bridge the gap a bit.

Yeah, a week ago Paramount said that they had greenlit more episodes of 1883 (in addition to the 1930s series that is coming) and now Sheridan is saying this was a one-off (which I certainly hope it is). But then again, this is the same Paramount who said they were shooting a new Star Trek movie and hadn't actually signed any of the cast yet.

A little off-topic, but there's a brand-new interview with Sam Elliott on Marc Maron's WTF podcast this week. Among other things, Elliott rips into the "Power of the Dog" movie (which he does NOT like) and claims he doesn't watch YELLOWSTONE because "it's too much like Dallas."

I really enjoyed 1883, but there is really no point in making more episodes. This was a perfect finale for the show.

Agree. It felt more like an 8 hour movie than a TV show. It was wonderfully written and acted, if a bit repetitive in the middle.

Quite honestly I was fully expecting them to pull out the TV miracle cure, but they didn't and the ending is impactful. Enjoyed this much more than Yellowstone which indeed is a lot like Dallas now.

Question is it supposed to be the same tree that Kevin Costner likes to hang out by in Yellowstone? I thought they might have bookended it with a scene at that tree in modern times.

Glad I watched this show.

Paramount plus just dropped a new 41 minute making of documentary on YouTube. Strangely it’s not on the Paramount plus app. If you have any interest, go to your device’s YouTube app and watch it there. This is also getting a BD release on August 30th and the documentary will also be on there with other bonus features.

After so many people raving about Yellowstone, it was time to watch and so glad I did. Haven’t started S5 as I moved to 1883 and wow. Talk about 10 hours of awesome tv and trips to the onion factory. Taylor really had me guessing on the fate of Elsa, especially with the Crow Indians and the cold creek/sweat teepee.

I do wonder about the tree chosen and if that’s the same that Costner has the chairs at. While I watched, I didn’t know in real history when “Yellowstone Park” came to be so I thought Elsa was going to choose the rock where John Dutton Sr. Dabney Coleman died. Thus named “Yellowstone Ranch” for the rock/stone and Lightning with the Yellow Hair.

This was so so good. Haven’t even mentioned Sam Elliott who is just phenomenal in his own right.

On to Yellowstone S5 and 1923…

I binged this last week and it was phenomenal. It gives some context as to why the ranch is so important to the 2022 John Dutton -- assuming the Elsa story has been passed down generations.

I think 1883 is the high water mark so far for the world of Yellowstone. It's more gritty and real world without the audacious storylines with Beth and the ranch hands doing things that seem implausible in the modern world. I like Yellowstone but some of the Beth and Jamie storylines are too soap opera like where this was more of a traditional western.

I really really like 1883. I might watch it again and other than Breaking Bad and a few others I rarely watch TV shows over. The only thing that bothered me is that the Oregon Trail was largely gone by 1883 as people could reasonably cross the country safely by train which was finished in 1869.

Making my way through this show now after finishing 1923.

Women have no shot in any of these shows.
