Paramount+ is expanding the saga of the Dutton family.
The streamer has ordered more episodes of 1883 along with another Yellowstone prequel series, it announced Tuesday.

Sunday's episode was just ok, which surprised me. It was the "Dance with Wolves" episode. Elsa is way too melodramatic now and even though she's "hard," it's starting to be too much,. There's the overly dramatic gruff voiceover and then her actions have her evolving at an exceedingly fast rate. Maybe if it had no voiceover it wouldn't be too much? It's weird because I've liked all of the episodes 1-7 so far, but was indifferent to episode 8. I also saw that there are two episodes left.

I wish we had a better idea of how much time has passed. Is she a bad ass over a week, month, 3 months etc.

This show is (so far) essentially about a girl becoming a woman on the wild frontier with her family.
Oddly, I'm good with that because....Sheridan

I’m caught up through episode 8. I mean the show is through the perspective of Elsa. So yeah it is about a girl becoming a woman in the frontier. But I do agree with no sense of time, it did feel a little rushed that Elsa seemed to fall in love with Sam so fast after the death of Ennis. Other than that minor quibble, this is a beautifully filmed and well written show. McGraw, Elliott and even Faith Hill are all really good. LaMonica Garrett is also really good.

You would think that with 2 episodes left, the Elsa scene from the first episode will happen and maybe one more episode to come to some sort of conclusion.

i appreciate them creating some tension for what might happen. we know some people who live, based on the 1893 parts of yellowstone. but what happened in the penultimate episode? could go either way. i am excited for next week, and a little surprised this kind of suspense could be created.
is this the start of the mythos dutton women rarely live to see 40?
that ten year old John is kinda a puss for a 1880s kid. i hope elsa did not have her womb damaged and can breed in some masculinity to the bloodline
no matter how bad my day is, going forward, i am going to tell myself at least no one shot me through the liver with a dirty arrow and then had to have the wound sealed with a red hot spoon.
this show makes me grateful for indoor terlets. i don't want to be bit on the ass when doing my business, by a snake
sometimes i feel like crying at the end of an episode. maybe i am a bigger puss than 10 year old john

Wow, that was a gut wrenching episode. A misunderstanding leading to tragedy among their group and Elsa who will ultimately pay the price. I mean great job by McGraw and Hill in that scene when James asked Margaret how many people does she know of as a nurse survive those kind of injuries through the liver. And then when she showed him the dirty arrow, the anguish they felt knowing she was doomed. Ultimately when this show does end it seems like Elsa is ultimately the tragic heroine of the series. I'm assuming she will meet her fate in the 2nd season at some point. And Elsa's narration was haunting when she could see through her Dad's eyes that she was going to die eventually. Man, great writing by Sheridan.
The season finale is going to be interesting. With Elsa's fate ultimately sealed, it seems like they will eventually at some point in season 2 set up little John Dutton's story for 1932.

Yeah, at first I was like, Elsa could still be alive for 1932. Then i watched yesterday's episode, and then I figured it would be little John Dutton's future story.

Well, I never put much notice on little John Dutton. He's been in the background for most of the show. The fact that he will have to man up at some point now definitely makes sense at this point.

My wife and I are looking to start these shows. Does it matter if we start with 1883? I know it is a prequel but wasn't sure if there are things that would make more sense had we watched Yellowstone first.

Not really. I mean you might get some perspective of some of the motivations of the characters in the main show, but I wouldn't say it is priority to watch the other first.

Yes, Brutal episode. But there is no need to continue the show if the best character is getting killed off. McGraw has been horribly upstaged.

Just finished the finale and it’s super late. That felt like a series finale until they added that post credit graphic teasing more stories to come this Fall. I wonder if they are going to rename the show. And finally they gave a timeline of how long transpired. They said 6 months when they reached the fort.
Pretty much expected what happened with the big death.
I was surprised at the other death with
Excellent season of TV. I don’t know if 1883 can qualify for any Emmys, but Isabel May would deserve some recognition. Also Taylor Sheridan as well.

Brutal and beautiful. I don't feel like it needs to continue, but I won't object to the order for more episodes.

And as I'm watching S4 of Yellowstone for the first time - EP called No Kindness for the Coward starts off with a Dutton family prologue featuring the characters from 1883 in what looks to be taking place a few years after the events of season 1.
