This is 100% it. Everyone is missing the point. It's not about access(I have all these on DVD & Blu as well), it's about tradition.

I'm a huge Peanuts fan, but the Thanksgiving special is kinda the red-headed stepchild of the three big specials. It seems like they've tried to elevate it over the years, but it's pretty average.

Well, the other two got even less viewers than that last year. Christmas 4.6, Pumpkin 3.6.

My favorites in order:
1. Christmas
2. Halloween
3. Valentine's Day
4. Any of the Rest

Thanksgiving is such trash. Charlie Brown is so earnest and Peppermint Patty is so cruel, it's like a psychological horror movie,

I saw that Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin is n 4K with Dolby Vision via Apple TV. I'm gonna have to check it out.

I guess I ordered quickly enough. My order says Friday delivery.

I never liked these as a kid and my daughter never had an interest in watching them. I don't think many kids today would be that interested in these old shows, so it's mostly adults that want to watch it for nostalgic reasons. The whole set of holiday movies can likely be purchased on DVD used and maybe even new on Amazon for less than $10. I didn't think anyone really watched much network television on their schedule that much any more. It would seem having the DVD or streaming would be a more convenient way to watch these if one wanted to.

The 4K set of these on disc is OOP and can go for a lot of money on the secondary market.

Not trolling at all but how good does the 4k of these actually look? Actually will the streaming be in 4k, maybe I'll check it out there?

Remember, these were hand drawn cell animation, completed on film before being transferred to video. If sourced from the film, they'll look like film. We just watched the Blu of Great Pumpkin and it's amazingly clear.

I know that film sources can look amazing in 4k, there just doesn't seem to be a ton of detail in the animation, unlike say a live action film or even a later era cartoon (or one with more detailed character designs).

I could've sworn the 2016 cartoon series was available somewhere on streaming but it doesn't seem like that's the case anymore. I wonder if that stuff is included in the deal (I know Disney has the recent movie)

I see the BD holiday set selling for a good price on eBay. Maybe I should post up my 4K set and see what it brings in....

​​​​​​METV recently switched to restored HD (Blu-ray)episodes of The Flintstones and picture quality is amazingly sharp for an old series.

I love these specials and watch them multiple times a year, but never saw the need for upgrading above dvd.

I watched the Great Pumpkin last night and it looked pretty damn good in Dolby Vision. Don't know how much better it can look -- never watched them on DVD or BD and I don't own the 4K discs. It's fine and don't have to go out of pocket some more for them.

Oh, dear sweet Lord, no. I'm having flashbacks to that promo where Charlie Brown was rapping. Ugh.

I glanced at a review the other night (and pondered the 4k set before it went OOS everywhere) and their opinion was if you have the BD you're good. Does the 4k look better? Sure...some, but noticeably from the BD to most? Not by much. So if you're buying for the first time or finally upgrading from DVD then skip right to the 4k.

I got the 4k Christmas special last year cheap (around $10) and agree with said review. It looks great, but I think I can live with the BDs of the other 2.

I got the 4K set for $30 on amazon on Oct 7. It was showing they and Best Buy were out of stock for a few days but then amazon showed they got three copies in so I ordered one. Great Pumpkin looks great.

And, on the other hand, I love the Thanksgiving special. Not as much as Christmas but probably more than Great Pumpkin. Yeah, it has some issues (i.e. the Franklin hand slap as he enters, Woodstock eating turkey), but I see the Charlie Brown/Peppermint Patty dynamic as kind of sweet. Peppermint Patty can be cruel but its never intentional...as she says, she doesn't know why she can't act normal outside of a baseball field, but it seems partially driven by the fact that she likes Charlie Brown more than as a friend. Just another in the great collection of Peanuts' unrequited loves. If you want to see what a cruel and troubling relationship looks like, watch the Helga/Arnold dynamic on Hey Arnold.

More than anything, the Thanksgiving special just makes me laugh. From Peppermint Patty repeatedly calling Charlie Brown to the football kickoff tradition to the popcorn-pretzel stick-jelly bean-toast dinner, it's full of plenty of memorable moments. And I love the introduction of "Little Birdie" as part of the great collection of Peanuts music.

Then again, I also think the Easter Beagle is absurdly sublime and I know a lot of people rag on that special as well.

I read on bluray.com the 4k discs are reframed to fit widescreen tvs and its best to stick with watching them in their OAR on bluray.

That's false. You can watch it in either widescreen or fullscreen. From a review on Blu-ray.com "Regardless of one's attitude toward "modernizing" aspect ratios of television programs (or any other material), the producers of these discs should be commended for including the "classic" versions, which have obviously been prepared with equal care and attention. Traditionalists are free to ignore the widescreen option in favor of the "classic" versions. If you're going to translate NTSC TV into widescreen for home media, this is how it should be done."

I do find it funny that Apple announces hijacking Peanuts and the 4k sets proceed to sell out everywhere. Good job apple.

The fourth most popular Peanuts special after the big three was probably the Valentine's Day special. That's been broadcast around the holiday for decades as well. I know that CBS would randomly air one or two of the less well known specials for other holidays on a regular basis.
