If your family tradition involves watching these on free ABC. Well you’re shit out of luck. It’s moving to Apple TV + and it’s an exclusive deal.

They will offer a free limited window for non subscribers.

If you’ve seen these a million times and are too old to care now, then that’s fine. But just pointing it out for those with kids and families.

I love them, and will watch them any chance I get, but I don't have children (and I'm old enough it would be my grandchildren who were the right age anyway) so it's been years since I've made a point to seek them out.

Why produce new original content when you can just put well established annual holiday faire behind a paywall? Good job Apple!

-rolleyes-

Kind of like the Xerox Alto, amirite?

Dick move.

I was looking for It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and couldn't find it on the tv schedule anywhere. The Peanuts holiday specials airing on ABC has been an annual tradition since I was a kid.

There are many people that can't afford internet that will miss out on their holiday tradition. This makes me angry. Luckily, I own them on DVD.

Well the tradition would mean they would have stayed on CBS. I watch them on DVD so this news doesn't bother me but I'll tell my parents since they always watch them on broadcast tv every year.

It's a very very early PC (c.1973) that used a mouse and a GUI, that Steven Jobs saw in action and then stole all the technology.

According to this, Apple is green lighting production or more Peanuts specials and also a second season of Snoopy in Space. The old specials were likely packaged together with this.

Apple has billions to spend on TV, probably more than ABC or any OTA station could afford.

Great Pumpkin was being edited in it's last few telecasts anyway (Snoopy Crying during Schroeder's song, for instance)

This sums it up.

Sure I have them all on DVD, BD and Christmas on 4k, but sometimes convenience just wins out. Or we'll be at my parents house whatever night it happens to be on and we'll turn it on.

I agree it’s a dick move.

That being said, aside from A Charlie Brown Christmas which I consider a Christmas tradition, I’ve never been a big fan of the other Peanuts holiday specials. He’ll, even A C. B. Christmas feels awful preachy the older I get.

Guess it's time to pick up the Holiday Collection on 4k.

No more Mounds/Almond Joy commercials? Well that sucks....

Really though, I think that tradition changed years ago as well.

Glad I have the set on DVD. I have apple TV but don't know I will keep it beyond the limited free period that just got extended. Rarely watch anything on it.

I'm going to get crapped on for this, but I basically force my kids to watch some of these, otherwise they'd have very little interest. And they love the recent Peanuts movie (and the series from a few years ago) so it's not like they hate the characters.

What were the ratings like these past few years on network TV, anyone know?

The specials usually win the demo or place second. https://tvline.com/2018/11/22/charli...-ratings-2018/ https://tvline.com/2019/10/23/world-...astros-game-1/

Soon all the classics will be behind a paywall because that’s all that will be left. Every network/studio has their own streaming service now anyways.

A shame really.

I am glad I saw this. I was looking for the Halloween special last night and couldn't find it. And I agree with others, this is a dick move.

Wow, that’s a shitty move by Apple. I own the Blu-ray set, but still. These specials have been on forever, and my parents always look forward to tuning in. They’re classics and should stay on the air the same way that Rudolph and Frosty do.
