I'm sure networks are frantically pitching Quarantine based Big Brother and The Bachelor type shows left and right.

Expect many dating reality shows where the participants only meet over Zoom.

Re: Coronavirus news -- TV edition

Swamp Thing's 1 and only season was just acquired by The CW

Tell Me a Story from CBS All-Access was also acquired by The CW

You're going to see some "streaming exclusive" shows probably make their way to network TV to fill spots until the mainstay shows can actually resume production.

I don't think you'll be many or any new animated shows since the studios are shut down. They don't have access to the equipment needed to produce those shows. Look at Archer, that show is shut down due to the pandemic. Editing a show at home with voice over acting is a tougher to do than having multi million dollar studio equipment available at the studio.

"The Circle" over on Netflix (adapted from a BBC show, I believe) is perfect for this environment. The contestants are in separate hotel rooms and never meet (except that each evicted player meets with one other player).

The Mad about You continuation series may also air on network TV this Fall as well. Sony is in discussions with networks.

The Canadian Crime drama Coroner was also acquired by The CW. Stars Serinda Swan and Roger Cross

Here's the synopsis:

Coroner (two seasons) is a character driven one-hour drama about Dr. Jenny Cooper (Serinda Swan), a recently widowed, newly appointed coroner who investigates any suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths in Toronto. Each death brings Jenny into a new arena in the city and sparks buzzworthy themes… Jenny taps into her intuition, as much as her intellect and heart, as she solves cases along with the help of Homicide Detective Donovan “Mac” McAvoy (Roger Cross), a man who isn’t afraid of challenging the status quo; pathologist Dr. Dwayne Allen (Lovell Adams-Gray), his assistant River Baitz; and Alison Trent (Tamara Podemski), Jenny’s assistant who keeps it real. And while Jenny solves mysterious deaths, she also deals with clinical anxiety, a teenage son, Ross (Ehren Kassam), who is still grieving the death of his father, and the prospect of starting a new relationship with the enigmatic Liam (Éric Bruneau).

Re: Coronavirus news -- TV edition

When I watched season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery on BD I noticed it was filmed with built in commercial breaks. I imagine in case it ever gets syndicated to commercial cable. I have to wonder how it would be edited, not just content, but the odd run times of the episodes.

No, it's because there are commercials during the shows on CBS All Access unless you pay extra for the no ads version.

I wouldn't be surprised at all that some enterprising "Saul Goodman" type ambulance chasers, which are currently finding strategies to challenge the legality of waiver documents in this current climate for possible future class action cases.

Supernatural's final 7 episodes are not there. If they can resume filming this summer, it will likely air in the Fall.

Legends of Tomorrow and Dynasty are also unknown

Katy Keene is also unknown

Next season is going to be confusing and messy.

I guess that will give me time to catch up on the DC shows that I've gotten behind on.

NBC has just picked up another Canadian series , "Transplant", a medical show just finishing up a 13-episode first season.

I guess that the pandemic is helping out Canadian television shows at least.

Hmmmm ......

Without the availability of proper insurance, many independents fear they cannot resume production because their bank financing is tied to insurance and completion bonds.

....

I never quite understood how exactly financing works in the tv/film sector.

If there's any truth to this ^ article, then this has nothing to do with disgruntled actors/contestants/crew and ambulance chasers. If a studio can't get insurance and/or it doesn't cover enough liabilities, then the bank loan officers (or investors) might also decline financing. Can't do anything if there's no legit cash available (ie. not from loan sharks).

Re: Coronavirus news -- TV edition

Oh yeah, it makes sense. No one is going to invest tons of money in a film that isn't properly insured in case it can't be finished for some reason. It's like buying a house, no bank is going to give you a mortgage if you don't have house insurance, they need to protect their investment.

CBS says they're optimistic about new seasons of Big Brother and Love Island this summer, though perhaps later than usual.

I wonder if the talk shows can come back to their studios before or during the same time as sports return?

How are all the stay at home commercials from just about every company getting produced?

Milana Vayntrub shot her AT&T spots herself with her boyfriend. I assume the Progressive “video call” was done the same way.

I think a lot of people figured out you can record “zoom” calls or shoot video then send that to a VFX artist then an editor. Literal no contact hand offs.

Re: Coronavirus news -- TV edition

When Fox promoted a "Summer of Gordon (Ramsey)", I assumed they had fresh seasons of "Hell's Kitchen" and "Master Chef" in their back pocket (They've been sitting on a completed season of "Master Chef Junior" that will play in The Fall). Nope. They're running repeat seasons of both. Of course, there's a certain format-bound "sameness" to them both that some viewers won't notice.
