We’re 5 episodes in and I have yet to see anything that had me guessing what was going to happen next. I mean, was anyone surprised that Mando has a crisis of conscience and went back for Baby Yoda? Did anyone think Mando wouldn’t help the innocent farmers on that planet? Or that Baby Yoda was actually going to be left there? Was anyone surprised that the young, wannabe bounty hunter was going to try to turn on Mando? Of course not, these are storylines we’ve all seen a thousand times before.

Of course, what do I know, I’m one of those people that think the short runtimes ARE a detriment to the story telling. You simply can’t tell a quality story in 23 minutes. Or, if you can, this particular series certainly isn’t doing it.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask the creators of this show to show a modicum of originality when writing this show and not treat us all like a bunch of simpletons just because it’s a Star Wars story.
I agree with this... I think if this wasn't Star Wars and I hadn't been waiting for a live action TV show since it was rumored 10 or 12 years ago, I'd not give a shit one way or the other. But aside from the production value being very good, the plot is thin and leans on things done way too many times in the past.

Edit: I also think Disney keeping Disney+ so PG is going to hurt these types of series. This series is meant for a more adult audience and if they can't show Drew Barrymore stoned for a short scene in a movie nobody will watch, then how are they going to get something gritty in this show? Showing the stormtrooper helmets on spikes was visually cool... but don't we want to see more wars and less Disney'fying of content in this type of show?

No surprise here. According to Bryce Dallas Howard, she never worked with Pascal in the last episode. It was his stand-in wearing the costume.

Looks like his lines are pretty much ADR'd or posted in.

There has been an interview going around with the guy (John Wayne's grandson) who plays him: https://www.vulture.com/2019/12/the-...interview.html

I don't think we'll ever see graphic violence in a Star Wars show or movie. Maul getting bloodlessly spliced in half is about as violent as it'll ever get.

With that said, I certainly wouldn't mind if they ratcheted it up to more of a pg-13 rating vs. the sanitary PG that we're seeing.

So through 5 episodes, here are the biggest DVD Talk nit picks.

It's too short

It's not gritty enough

It's too procedural

Ahh, the fucking internet.

So we can't have an opinion? We must accept it for what it is, got it... bitching about bitching is just bitching.

Here's another bitch: if you're going to have Pedro fucking Pascal in the show, why waste at least 5/8 of a season without actually showing him or developing him?

Settle down man. No need to get worked out. Never said your opinion wasn't valid.

I was more or less talking about that any popular IP, especially Star Wars, is never going to make everyone completely happy. Someone is going to find some laundry list of things that just doesn't do it for them.

And you just brought up another point too that some people aren't happy with the Mando character because we haven't seen his face, so the character isn't resonating with some people.

and if this show were to just get non-stop "OMG, this is show is fucking awesome" some would those guys are blinded fanboys who accept anything Star Wars or are just Disney/Star Wars shills.

Ahh, the fucking internet.

Sounds about right to me. I’m still waiting for a 4-hour R-rated cut of Rogue One.

Because it's cheaper to just pay him for voiceover work?

I'm holding out hope that the Twilek hooker played by Natalia Tena will have a full frontal nude scene. We really need some alien vag.

But what if instead of labia, she has a couple of those tentacle like what’s on her head? Oh well, I guess it didn’t bother Kanan/Caleb Dume. Still, I don’t think Disney+ is ready for tentacle porn.

My post came off wrong... I wasn't / shouldn't have directed it to your post -- so my apologies. After 5 episodes, I'm kinda disappointed with the show but know that it has tons of potential.

I can live with that.

(I am, of course, joking. I don't really think R-rated content would work with Star Wars. Star Trek, yes. Star Wars, no.)

I've mentioned it before but I think a Saving Private Ryan type war film set in the Star Wars universe could be cool.

I think that's sort of what they were aiming for with Rogue One. Assault on a beach, everyone dies.

The assault on Max Kanata's city is why that came to mind. Although even the most brutal SW scene wouldn't have blood. So, R would be unlikely.

It's not a voice-only role. He's actually in the armor most of the time.

I just assumed he wasn't in the suit at all anyway and was just doing voice work.

Of course it isn’t Pedro Pascal. It’s a clone. Duh.

They were right to keep droids out for all those years. Look what happened when they let them run the place. Sucked the life right out. No live music. My yelp review is going to be revised.

I think if they didn't want to show his face by taking his Helmet off... they probably should've gone with something like Ironman did... show his face from inside the helmet. People probably would complain that they were coping Ironman but so fucking what.

It doesnt bother me that I can't seen his face so far. I mean, that is part of the whole Manalorian lore.
