Re: Modern Family - Final Season Thread
You jest, but a few weeks ago I began watching Shameless season 1. I don't know all the details (no spoilers please), but my understanding is that the characters who are young kids in the beginning start having much more adult storylines as it progresses.

Didn't care much for this episode as it was just a re-hash of the Vegas episode 6 seasons ago - and it wasn't done nearly as well.
Was Alex already moved out of the Dunphy house before moving to this new building - or is this the first time permanently moving out? I don't recall a story line regarding it, and thinking with the dearth of decent story lines, that could've been one.

I thought her company put her up in the condo temporarily as a "perk" while working on her current project, not that she was a permanent resident. I admit, I didn't pay attention as much during the episode's setup, but it improved along the way, eventually garnering my complete attention.

I'm just glad this final season isn't a ton of schmaltzy farewells, with everything geared towards this being the end (though I'm sure we'll get a few episodes like that as the finale draws near). Hell, even Cheers' final season had Sam getting therapy for sex addiction as well as revealing he's been wearing a toupee for years.

That episode is one of the series' best, and I thought this was a great call back with Merchant as the ultimate servant again. Didn't need that Luke and Manny crap, though.

Well, that was horribly depressing.

WTF?
Some boring stuff happens... blah blah blah... Phil connects with his dad again while being concerned about his behaviour... and then
... and then they close with Jay's new dog. Really?
Because the writers don't know what they're doing.

Seriously? You guys are now bitching about Pritchett lineage?
They've already addressed the odd relationships due to Jay becoming a parent later in life
Joe: as your brother...
Claire: I will NEVER get used to that
Growing up, my mom had a cousin who was actually close to age to my brother and myself, so we all called him "Cousin Tommy" even though he technically wasn't OUR cousin. So it happens...

It's like, how, technically, Manny is Luke's uncle, but their relationship is more akin to cousins. Likewise, even though Joe may be Claire and Mitchell's brother, their relationship will be more like an aunt/uncle-nephew.

Exactly. Alex and Haley always refer to Mitch and Cam as Uncle Mitch and Uncle Cam, yet it would be very weird for them to say "Uncle Joe", even though that's exactly who he is.

Growing up, I had a cousin who was so much older than me that his kids were close to my age. My family always called him my Uncle John and his wife my Aunt Helen, and their kids were my cousins.

The complaints in this thread are getting completely nonsensical. It’s a closed sitcom guys, not Masterpiece Theatre. And the writing is still better than 99% of network or streaming television.

Re: Modern Family - Final Season Thread
I checked out of this show a few years ago since it kept getting worse but I figured with this being the final season, I'd get back in for the final stretch. Gotta say, I'm more impressed than I thought I would be. The episodes have been fun and the recent clip show was well done.
A few things I missed in recent seasons:
Didn't know Hailey had twins with Dylan. Did they get married?
I have no idea what Alex is doing now other than seeming to be incredibly successful. I started fading out of this show when she left college and came back home.
Other than the classic mix-up episode at the apartment complex, it seems that Luke has been written off. I guess they ran out of things to do with him. Kind of the same with Manny, it seems.
There's a lot of Joe now, he's cute and has nice one liners.
End of the day, it seems that, at least for the end run, they're focusing on the adults. I think that's a good move.
