There was a sand artist finalist on season 7, Joe Castillo.
i guess they wanted a new person and a new story instead of bringing him back.

I remember Castillo. His art was excellent but Siminova's story, music and presentation is on another level.
I don't see it, I think his presentation is solid, but that's how I feel about Michael Carbonaro.

Yeah we disagree on Lin.
i think he’s a statue. Sure he has jazz fingers but that about it. No personality.
Carbanaro is great. I love what he does.

Last one I wanted to mention though was Cosentino. Is it just me or did it seem like the button was a dummy switch unrelated to what was actually going on? The whole rig seemed like the elements were triggered after he unocked each piece, mabye by a magnetic trigger switch. So undoing the clamp on his right hand would trigger the arrow shot and bear trap. Undoing the left, the same. Then he's standing on a pressure plate that triggers the fire after he jumps off it. It was flashy but seemed pretty cheesy.

I actually do believe in magic... That was not a trick.
For anyone who doesn't believe in magic: Hellooo!!!

Shin Lim really wants to be David Copperfield.
I’d like to see him change up his look, mannerisms, and stage presence, and become more of his own person.

I thought Monday would be the finale, but according to my DVR there will be a "Results Finale". If that's the case, I'm assuming there will be a "Viewer Vote" after tonight's episode....

For the next summer season, Heidi, Mel B, and Tyra are out. Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, and Terry Crews are in.

Howie must have dirt on Simon or NBC executives to last so long on the show.

It's been a running gag in our house that Howie has become a broken record during Champions. In damn near every comment to an act, "remember there are only 2 acts going through, I hope America votes for you!" or some variation "remember... It's up to America!" I guess that's his new "this is the greatest season ever" schtick. Honestly I'd rather it go the other way and keep Mel & Heidi and get another comedian in there for Howie.

So this was another in-house vote, -they just added another episode so that (maybe) the other returning acts that didn't get picked can have a second performance. According to Simon, he wouldn't be surprised if ten of the twelve acts win the competition. I was surprised when Paul Potts gave a nod to Neil Boyd, who Simon brought on to America's Got talent as a Paul Potts doppelganger (he was an office worker who sang Opera on the side) who also won his season. He died a few years back.

If the video I saw on YT is the trick Shin Lim did last night, that's the trick he did on Fool Us the first time, although very slightly varied. Looking at some of the elements this time, I'm thinking Terry and Howie had to be in on it. Still holds up well, though.

Except for when he runs his spider fingers through his hair.
I didn’t think Howie was in on it.
The trick with the card on the seat is a relatively easy one.
Penn and Teller do it and showed the trick once on one of their shows.
My thought on the disappearing and reappearing signed cards is that they were not all the same cards and had fake signatures on them. Maybe not the ones Lim had on him but definitely the ones in the fpcoffee cup.
Dorenbos has enough stage stage presence and personality that he could share some with Lim.
I think he is using that chalkboard with the remote control arm that pops up from the sides of the frame for his trick.

Okay, I'll concede on Shin Lim. I still don't have an issue with his stage presence BUT after seeing someone so exhuberent and genuinely likable like John Dorenboss, it is definitely a stark difference. If both were playing and I could only go see one, it would be Dorenboss because of of that. Shin may have him beat on raw skill, but Dorenboss has him beat in stage presence that's for sure.
I'm currently watching this episode, and just finished seeing Dorenboss... That might be my favorite magic trick of the last 5 or so seasons we've been watching. Tying the trick together with 4 different performances from the previous times he was on was brilliant. Absolute home run performance. Seems like it's mostly a variation on the forced card act, but it was brilliantly done.
All of the acts have been phenomenal. My eyes were glued to Kseniya Siminova. Absolutely mesmerizing.

Looks like we might not need a new topic for season 14.
One ep has aired.
A new Shim Lim again this season. Ugh.
It is not good.
Hough has no personality.

How does Lucasfilm/Disney let "Storm Boogie" get away with wearing those costumes?
