That doesn't make any sense. Just because Saul may be in fear of WW, it doesn't mean he is still alive. He may not know that Walter is dead, I doubt it would make national news. He could have kept up on local Albuquerque news, but maybe not.
I guess we don't know for sure how much time elapses between Ozymandias and Felina but it couldn't be more than a few months, right?

I suspect that Gene would go online and read the news from Albuquerque; it seems to be in his character to keep himself informed of any happenings that could effect him.
Since he knew Walt was getting disappeared, too, I don't know if he would google (or duckduckgo) for news on Walter White, but I think he probably would since he's so paranoid.

This is a shootout leaving multiple people dead, including a guy who was just talked about on Charlie Rose, and wanted for the deaths of two federal agents. That’s pretty much guaranteed to make national news.
