Everything is off in the trailer. Like he's trying to sound pretentious instead of just being pretentious.

Will this be the first time an actor has played the same character in three different decades?

No... those Law and Order shows have been around a while.

Four decades. '80s, '90's, '00s, '20's

Hah yeah, Mariska Hargitay has been on SVU since 99 which is also 4 decades now.

Several soap opera actors have very long careers as a character:

And with many soap actors, they've played the character steady through the 4 decades... as in 30+ years probably equaling between 3,000 - 5,000 episodes (still impressive that Grammer's played the character for 20 years).

I can't imagine being a soap actor and playing the same character for that many years/episodes. The consistent paycheck is fantastic, but that's gotta get really boring. Many of those long-timers don't do much other acting work either.

Some of the actors on General Hospital seem like family members as I have seen them most of my life.

Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

Ugh, that's heart-breaking. Alan Sepinwall is a huge fan and scholar of Cheers and Frasier (which is obvious if you read that review). His gripes about the show sound spot-on. The lack of honest continuity of the character is definitely a deal-killer for me -- it was the one thing that made Frasier so special as a spin-off.
What a bummer.

Well, except for Frasier's mom being a total stuck-up psycho bitch on Cheers and being a down-to-earth sweetheart in the home videos who Martin would actually like on the spin-off.

Re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

They could've avoided this whole mess if they just had Frasier move to a different city (one where his son also currently lives) instead of returning to Boston.
His old friend could've been from his schooling at Oxford (Frasier went to both Harvard and Oxford) and it would've worked cuz the guy they cast is English.

It sounds like their way to avoid not having Cheers characters on the show is changing history and making it seem like they weren't really close friends. Stupid.

Not by a long shot. As others have mentioned many soap opera actors have played the same character for at least that long. Genie Francis has played Laura on and off since 1977, so that's six different decades. Many of the Star Trek actors have played their characters for more than three decades. If we're just going by sitcoms, Last of the Summer Wine ran from 1973 to 2010. There were a few characters that were on it almost all the way through like Peter Sallis and Jane Freeman.

these reboots come across as so pandering and DUMB. the original Night Court and Frasier were pretty whip smart. This just feels ham fisted. Must be the times.

It looks like Fraiser and his son will be living in the same apartment building right across the hall from each other.

Helen Wagner played Nancy Hughes on As The World Turns from 1954 until 2010.

What a bummer.
Sepinwall has become real grumpy, though ... He's also kinda in the minority on this one. The show is 64% on RT so probably not a complete dud.

Re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

Well, I found the first two episodes enjoyable if corny and retro - not great, not horrible, generally a warm nostalgia bath if you love the good Dr Crane character. I didn’t hate it and will keep watching but hope it sharpens up considerably.

the good:
Grammer slips back into the role without a hitch and it’s amusing to see an older, less cocky Frasier reassessing his life.

the actor playing Freddie annoyed me a lot at first but by episode 2 the character starts to make more sense. Sure he’s not the same kid we saw 20+ years ago but people change.

the meh:
the supporting characters so far are a far cry from the original series. Niles’ son is an awkward plot device and the drunken professor gets off some good lines but is a bit cliche. I like the roommate with the baby ok though.

the bad:
That goddamn laugh track is AWFUL. The braying and cheering is so over the top. Tone it way down please.

A friend of mine went to the taping of the Pilot episode last year and they have a live studio audience.

Even worse! Keep it down, people! 😬 I do have a love for the old Happy Days and Different Strokes of my youth but don’t miss the loud audience guffawing much at all.

I liked the first two eps.
Lookinf forward to the rest.

One thing that I didn’t like and made no sense to me was when nephew picked up the Fenway dirt and dumped it out.
Why would he do that

Re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

Much like the return of Night Court - this was pretty bad. They just try too hard.

They're just regurgitating the previous show, just using different characters.
David's just a Niles rehash for the most part, but he's very annoying. Frasier's friend and the department head insulting each other is a retreat of Niles and Roz.

I guess it didn't dawn on the firefighters that Freddie and Frasier had the same last name until Frasier mentioned it?

It may have been a live studio audience, but it really sounded like they juiced it with a laugh track as well. Or at the very least, they pushed the audience to laugh out loud.

I guess we're supposed to believe that he's stupid enough to think the case is just dirty and him emptying it out is cleaning it. Because, something enclosed would accumulate dirt somehow and Frasier would want to display it on the piano even though it has nothing else in it. Totally logical.

Re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

It doesn't have the magic of the original show, but so far, it's an ok follow up. I don't think this show will appeal to people that never watched the original show unlike the original Fraiser which stood on its own even if you've never seen Cheers.

There were a few nice touches in this one, though. They names the bar Mahoney's after the actor who played Fraiser's father. One of Freddy's coworkers at the fire department is named Moose after the dog that played Eddie. Niles and Daphne's son is named David after David Angel who died along with his wife when the airplane they were travelling in crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers. Although, the naming of the son was done at the end of the original Fraiser series.

Re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

Have only watched the first episode so far but enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would. If i keep up with this it’ll probably force me to go back and watch all of Frasier. I saw all of the first few seasons and liked it but watched very little tv for the rest of its run. Probably only caught 10% of the episodes past season 4.
