I forgot that this reboot was in development, but it's officially on pause. https://tvline.com/2022/08/19/buffy-...ampire-slayer/

Buffy is one of my favorite shows of all-time, but I bet if I re-watch it and think about sticking "everybody has a cell phone and camera on them at all times" into the plots, it becomes a house of cards.

Re: Buffy reboot in development
I just checked out the link you provided Iwhy, and it confirms that this would have been a reboot with a different actress in the title role, and that would have worked for me. At the end of the day, if a Slayer falls, another one would rise to take her place.
I do not talk about the show a lot but I remember watching, and in fact recording episodes of this show on the VCR I had in my dorm room at Kresge College at UC Santa Cruz, mostly for the purposes of recording shows I might miss when in class or having to knuckle down and finish up a paper (I have a BA in English).
Even with knowing that Whedon was a dick to some of the cast, I still have fond memories of the show but am not a crazy super fan that would rage against a reboot with a different cast and a show setting updated to reflect the times where as Dooku noted, everyone has a camera. In fact, that could be worked into a reboot, a Slayer gets an anonymous link of one of their patrols where they were recorded taking down a supernatural creature, and the person behind the video eventually gets folded into the Slayer's core group of friends and associates.
The reboot is not happening, but it could have still worked even though post Buffy a million and one shows/films have come down the pike involving Hunters/Slayers of supernatural beings. At the same time, I think about shows like Legacies, where a core group of folks in the know (or Supernatural beings themselves) have to hunt down a big bad and avoid their actions being noticed by ordinary townsfolk. Like I said, Buffy showed that there was an audience for this type of show and we have seen a lot of Buffy like shows pop up not just on the CW, but other networks as well, and of course the streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock, etc..
