I don’t think I’ll even give this a chance. The original is far too iconic and it’s too bad Selleck never got around to reprising the role in some for or fashion.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

Selleck was always holding out for a movie instead of doing something on TV. I think that was a mistake on his part, but his choice.

If this is a reboot and set in current times, is anyone even driving a 308?

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

Well, glad they didn't force in the mustache on Hernandez.

I'll wait and see how the trailer looks. I'm sure this will be kind of cheesy like H50. And who knows they could possibly do H50 and Magnum crossovers since they both shoot in Hawaii and are from the same creative team. That could be fun.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

The original Magnum was a result of the original Hawaii 5-0 ending its run. They wanted a new series set in Hawaii that could utilize all the existing crew and studios.

He looks more Michael Westen than anything.

I can't speak for Hawaii, but there are several I see in the summer weekly here in the south shore of Taxachusetts.

There were some rental places that kept one or two for the Magnum nostalgia, but for the most part, a multimillionaire there wouldn't own a 308 nor a Testarossa. He should be in a Spider.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

By today’s standards the 308 is nothing to get excited about.

On the other hand I can’t think of a modern car that could take its place as far as being so iconic.

This wasn't on my radar at all until I noticed it in the CBS lineup thread. I'm surprised they're going for it. I think dolphinboy is right. That's not a sentence I write all that often.

that last stunt in the trailer. Total Fast and Furious influenced since the Pilot was directed by Justin Lin.

You do hear the Magnum theme in it. And there is a reference to Five-O. I smell a possible crossover since both shows are from the same creative team.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

Skydiving from space is a real thing? Damn.

That's cool they brought back the original Ferrari. The last stunt looked very fake, but I guess they need it in order to line up with modern tastes since everything else about it feels so retro.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

I see a lot of military based episodes vs the originals divorce, bodyguard, missing cases with the occasional military thrown in.

2010's shaved chest vs 1980's rug.

I love the way they rationalized using the old car!

Then they destroyed the car.

Hawaii Five-0 is a guilty pleasure... this should go nicely with it.

I'm in.

Re: Magnum PI (reboot)

I never saw the original Magnum but I might give this a shot. It looks fun. But with how poorly the same people handled the MacGyver reboot and how disappointed I was with that I'm very cautious about this.

I have to agree with you. If the show wasn't called Magnum PI and the cast had different names, I might could give this a shot. It's just when I hear the name Thomas Magnum, the first thing that comes to mind is Selleck. He owned that role and I can't see anyone else playing the part.

People said the same thing about the Lethal Weapon TV reboot 2 years ago. I don't think anyone here thought it was going to be good before the 1st season aired. Most here I think said there was no way in hell anyone could play the parts outside of Glover and Gibson. And it became a huge surprise after good reviews/word of mouth.

that is until everything crumbled this season with all the behind the scenes drama and then the recast.

The Hawaii Five-O reboot also worked because of the cast chemistry.

Who knows with Magnum...it's wait and see.

Although one exception was MacGyver on CBS. I watch it, but it seems like it's universally hated here.

Detroit hat: Check
Surfski: Check
Dobermans: Check
Ring: Check
Watch: Check (I think)
Helicopter: Check
Mustache: No Check
Chest hair: No Check
Hawaiian shirts: No Check.

Only time will tell.

There was an episode of Five-0 where they were in a copter and were humming the Magnum theme song. I can't remember the episode but it also had TC's chopper in this same episode. So, obviously it was something they all watched.

But knowing stupid shit always happens on Five-0 the possibility is there.
