Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

If Joss Whedon is involved.

Fox President Of Entertainment David Madden has said the option is on the table but he requires one condition, albeit a huge one at that. Joss Whedon must be on board for this to happen. There were no mention of his actual role in the production, but one could assume Madden is referring to Show Writer/Creator. - See more at: http://lrmonline.com/news/fox-open-t....RaDDMxyd.dpuf

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

As much as I love Firefly (and I do), there is no way this would be comparable to the original. If (and it's a HUGE if) they could get most of the cast back, it wouldn't have the same scrappy sensibility.

Agree, Draven. You can't go back. Of course I would check it out, but I don't think it would work.

There is a better chance of Universal green lighting a Serenity sequel than Joss returning to FOX.

So they can cancel it again on a cliffhanger.

New cast? Really no point. Old cast? Been so long not sure how well it would work.

I would so love a Serenity sequel. I loved the first...

Been just too many years since even Serenity. Maybe a movie sequel set as many years in the future could work. But not a series.

That's why I'm torn. No Wash or Book. However, if it's a pseudo reboot, they could easily write Wash back in.

Leave it alone. The movie may have been open to a sequel but it's been so long.

Don't see how they could pull this off. The cast is too old to get them back for anything but a follow up movie. Without Wash and book a series would not be the same.

They could try another Firefly ship with an entirely new crew trying to meld some of the unmade story lines in. Would be tough since everyone would be comparing it to the original and that was lightning in a bottle.

I hope this doesn't happen, but I think it's inevitable as they try to find things to remake.

I doubt they could even get Fillion to sign on for this. The only way it could possibly work is as a reboot with a new cast. Like you said, the original cast was such a large part of what made that show special. Its unlikely that they would be able to recapture that magic.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

maybe FOX is throwing this out there only as a PR stunt knowing full well that the spaceship has sailed?

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

A Buffy reboot would be far easier to pull off than a Firefly reboot. Bring SMG back as a Giles-like character for a new teen slayer, Faith's daughter. Completely ignore the comic book "seasons" that came after the original show.

Spoiler:
If you are still reading, Faith had a daughter in my proposed reboot with...Spike.

I think a Firefly reboot without Whedon's direct involvement as showrunner would turn into a disaster.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

Don't really think I would care if they even did this. Serenity was a good close to the series, and Fillion has gained so much weight and gotten so much older that he can't really pull off a dashing space rogue anymore.

Yeah cause actors never lose weight for a role.

If I were doing a Buffy reboot, I'd put it on premium cable, drop the humor, go darker, meaner, harder, and R-rated. Up the sex and gore. Make it a true horror series.

I think that, between Buffy and Angel, the mythology had become so complex that revisiting it in a tv series or movie wouldn't work unless you ignored a lot of it.

I think a Firefly reboot without Whedon's direct involvement as showrunner would turn into a disaster.
I'm not convinced it would work with him. It seems like his experience with the failed tv series and tepid box office of the movie has left him soured on the concept.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

The Firefly universe should absolutely not be tainted by a far-too-late cashgrab attempt from the network that treated it like garbage the first time. Fox can suck it.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

Add me to the list. As much as I love Firefly, this I not something I want. After all my disgust with people actually wanting OLD Indiana Jones (rather than a recast) and Star Wars with the OLD cast (and their kids -- it's all related!), it warms my heart that you guys are also against this concept.

Firefly: Next Gen -- the kids of the Serenity crew were born and raised onboard. They have never known a "normal" life and are continuing the struggle against the Alliance ... and their 'rents!

Firefly: Atonement -- Fox, the network you know and love, is bringing back the Serenity crew to continue their adventures in space. With the original cast, this follow-up series explores what it is like to be an aging space outlaw who isn't keeping up with the changing world around you.

Firefly: Browncoats -- a prequel series with your favorite 20-something CW actors (who look good but can't act) recreating the Serenity crew before they became outlaws.
