Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

The only thing I could see being remotely successful is another movie, or short miniseries, with the characters appropriately aged to match the actors. But without Wash and Book, I wouldn't want them to even try.

It's highly doubtful the same executives are still there. For all we know the new execs could be big fans.

I'm a big Star Wars fan. It doesn't qualify me to produce the next trilogy.

Are you an executive at a big network?

My initial reaction was "Fox can go fuck itself". Then I thought rationally and started thinking that none of people who were there when the series originally aired were likely to be there anymore. Then I remembered how Fox screwed the original show and was back at "Fox can go fuck itself".

They should have done this shit 10 years ago. It's a little late now...

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

I wouldn't mind a Firefly spin-off with a different set of characters in the same world and the few people they might be able to return to make some cameos or something... but it's FOX, so I still wouldn't have any hope for it... and it's been so long that a reboot with the original cast and plotline just isn't gonna happen.

Fox is really be reaching for stuff to remake. It didn't work the first time around, why would it work any better the second?

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

There is no chance the original Fox executives that canceled Firefly are still employed as television executives at the network. The shelf life for tv executives is brutally short unless you stumble into a monster hit.

Why not just do season 2 with the original cast via Netflix or something?

I have a better idea, how about we get a Pucciless season of Human Target and they reboot that.

20th Century Fox Television still owns the production rights for the show on TV, which is why FOX the network is in consideration as a broadcast partner.

Also, Netflix shot down the possibility of reviving Firefly back in 2013:

Firefly fan is still the Firefly fan from when it was on TV and there’s fewer of them and they’re more passionate every year. Whereas with Arrested Development we’re going to be serving a multiple of the original audience. Any of the other shows we could bring back would be a fraction of the original audience.”
He insinuated that the Arrested Development audience grew after it was cancelled but Firefly will be limited to a percentage of those who saw it on TV. I for one am one of those who never even knew it was on TV. My daughter introduced me to it after I had picked up the HD DVD of Serenity without even knowing it's origin. After my surgery I binged the season and was once again amazed it never made it. What great story telling.

That's not saying I believe in a revival. I just don't see Fillion pulling it off at his age and weight.

Looks like it's actually happening, per IG postings.

Yeah, there have been several IG teases about this. I liked the one where both he and Morena Baccarin are in their TV police uniforms.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

I love Firefly, but I have a hard time getting excited about a reboot so long after the original show, especially in this case where Serenity serves as an outstanding capper to the series.

Someone speculated this might be an animated show, which makes way more sense.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

This has come up before. Ron Glass passed away and the character of Wash was killed off. You could probably get away with another Preacher, but Wash was a key character to the humor.

What the hell did Jewell Staite do to herself? She's got that super pointy nose and pronounced cheekbones. I know she had gained weight for the series back in the day, but she definitely looks like she's had work done since the movie. I didn't even recognize her in Resident Alien.

It's widely speculated to be a reboot with the original cast
Pedantic nitpick: If it's with the original cast, it's not a "reboot," but a revival. A reboot implies a reset of continuity.

See how the new Scrubs season is called a revival in news stories about it.

I mean, Ron Glass's character Book was also killed off in the movie, so that would've been something to address even if Ron Glass hadn't died.

I'm assuming Joss Whedon isn't attached. Maybe co-creator Tim Minear is back? If it's a whole new writing team, it'll be interesting if they can recapture the tone and spirit.

Re: Fox is open to a Firefly reboot.

The easiest solution would be an animated prequel series with a recast preacher.

One of the Instagram reels (the one with Sean Maher) has some info on what it's not.

Some of you have guessed convention, podcast, or cross-over. You are wrong.

"Reboot" tends to get thrown around a lot in the entertainment industry, and it's a nearly meaningless term. It gets applied to remakes, continuations, revivals, and everything in between.
