The tv version of Abraham wasn't squandered, he lived up to the comics character. Now Tyrese...he was totally squandered.

You know its funny you say this as this episode specifically I got a real The Warriors vibe.

Game of Thrones juggles twice as many characters and manages to advance storylines of each in most episodes. This whole, 'here's a Rick episode,' here's a Carol episode,' 'here's a Darryl episode,' and now 'here's a Maggie episode' shit sucks. It's one of the, if not the biggest fucking show on TV. AMC needs to pony up and let them improve the show a little.
It's the LOST theory of television production. It worked better with that show than it does this one.

Not sure Carol feels that way.

Abraham? Most of the goodwill towards him was based on his comic counterpart. The tv version seemed like squandered potential. Fr. Gabriel?
Not disagreeing, but it's a chicken-and-the-egg argument. We haven't gotten any interesting new characters because Gimple and Co. are too busy shoveling Rick's tired shit down our throats.

Like most of the characters, the concept of Father Gabriel had potential ... but it was horribly squandered. It would have been interesting to see the Apocalypse through the eyes of a man of God. Instead we get a weak offscreen plot line about a coward. The best thing he has done was sneak up on Negan.

The only way characters like Gabriel and Eugene affirm themselves is to become useful to Rick.

Exactly ... They are treated as props, not characters.

Next episode Neegan is going to discover Carl in the truck to which Carl is going to yell "Zoiks!" and then there will be a scene looking down a hallway as Negan and Carl skate through doorways in an exciting Scooby-Do style chase.
