Yeah it does seem that "player kills" would be a fairly common occurrence, especially given how realistic the hosts are.

maybe all the knives are rubber or something. still seems like people could kill other people by pushing them off a roof or beating them with a stick or rock

Because the hosts are programmed not to use knives against guests. Duh people. Remember during this last episode where Dolores physically couldn't pull the trigger of the gun, even though she clearly wanted to? Her programming doesn't allow her to shoot guns.

The show clearly made it a point that only certain hosts could use bladed weapons. Remember how all the hosts were sitting around the woodless campfire because the stray host was the only one programmed to use the ax? (That scene made me chuckle.)

Doesn't have to be "hyper" inflation. Judging by the technology, the show takes place at least one hundred years in the future. And if we go by the way inflation has gone in the last hundred years, $40K in one hundred years would be just under $2K today.

Yep, following our current "no inflation" we'll be at $40k being reasonable in no time.

While not directly related to this episode, The Ringer put up an....interesting piece of Fan Fiction with Jason Concepcion writing a fictional Reddit AMA about what a two week stay at Westworld might be like (and cost). Worth a read if you want to go down that rabbit hole.

I'm calling it now: William (Jimmi Simpson) is actually Ed Harris' character and all of his story arc, as it's playing right now, is a flashback to when he first attended the park and has been coming to it for 30 years.

Yeah, that's true for sure. I guess I was thinking alternate time-line near future sort of thing, but yeah, 100+ years in the future makes more sense. At $2k a day, I'd at least give it a try!

Shooting Bullet Holes in a Popular Fan Theory: In case you missed it last week, the Westworld fandom got all excited over a very intriguing fan theory: What if Jimmi Simpson’s character, William, was actually the younger version of Ed Harris’s Man in Black? What if Westworld was showing us two timelines? If you watch Episode 2 again (with these details of the theory in mind), it mostly holds up! But as soon as Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood)—shell-shocked from her awakening and post-MiB trauma—stumbles into William and Logan’s (Ben Barnes) camp at the end of Episode 3, the theory flies out the window. It seems like everything we’re witnessing is on the same timeline. Too bad; that theory really did seem like a very Jonathan Nolan-esque thing to do.

You and a ton of other people, as it's been a talked about theory online since the second episode. But last I read episode 3 made that less likely -

I imagine they could try and explain a different time line thing some how, but it seems less likely now.

If they were running two separate timelines without being upfront about it, there would be hell to pay, as that's not the kind of narrative surprise/twist that people appreciate.
