OK, at what point does the Carpool Karaoke start getting old, and it becomes a punchline?

I tend to agree, but I thought the part with Missy Elliot had a lot of energy and was fun. Also, given this week's events, there was some unintentional foreshadowing in getting Michelle on tape singing the lyrics of Get Ur Freak On.

I get where you're coming from but it still works for me. Corden is clearly having so much fun and there are some truly touching moments like when he nearly cried when Stevie Wonder sang "I Just Called To Say I Love You" to his wife. Besides, he does funnier celebrity interviews in the front seat of a car than anyone does in a studio.

I tried to watch this a couple of times and it just sucks. Dude can sing but he's just a bloody awful host. He's like an hyperactive, overly happy, arse licker. Terrible.

Maybe they should let Reggie Watts host the show.
It will probably not appeal to everybodys taste but it could be a really strange and unique show and stand out from the competition.

i actually didn't like the style at first (all guests at once), but it has grown on me and when there is someone i care about, i record and enjoy...

James Corden will give CBS audiences one more year of signature sketches like “Carpool Karaoke” before driving away from his late-night perch.
The late-night comic, who has been at the helm of CBS’ “Late Late Show” since mid-2015, has extended his contract with CBS until the Spring of 2023, after which he will leave. The host is expected to discuss his decision on Thursday’s broadcast of the program.

I had brief hopes when he took over and read he was a fan of Letterman and wanted to try different things one night hosting the show from some rando's house with Jeff Goldblum. That lasted all of 5 minutes as he settled into a routine of recycled bits and cloying celebrity fan service. He should just stick to doing musicals and commercials.

If he has some good guests I will tape it
Dave Grohl is happy he will not endure this again.
Now only if Colbert will leave or quit that would be great news.

Maybe there will be a panel and not one permanent host for that vacant time slot?
https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/jam...ht-1235285678/
CBS is considering replacing Corden’s distinct program with a multi-host panel, according to three people familiar with the matter, a sign of how late-night is changing as viewers sample the best of the programs via social media rather than watching them in their wee-hours’ time slot.
A panel format could encompass a wide range of concepts, such as the news-roundtable program “Politically Incorrect,” which Bill Maher led on ABC late-nights between 1997 and 2002; the gossipy “Chelsea Lately” that was led by Chelsea Handler on E! between 2007 and 2014; or even the frenetic game-show stylings of “@midnight,” which aired in late night on Comedy Central between 2013 and 2017.It’s entirely possible the replacement show may not have a live band or other trappings that have come to be expected from the format.
CBS’ discussions are in early stages, these people caution, and executives at the network, part of Paramount Global, are mulling a wide range of ideas and potential personalities.
CBS declined to comment on its deliberations for “The Late Late Show,” which launched in 1995 and has been hosted over the years by Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson, in addition to Corden.

Good to see someone sees the blinking neon billboard on the wall. Nobody's watching this crap anymore. Anything but another formulaic talk show. And a panel show is no better. Might as well bring back Crimetime After Primetime or the CBS Late Night Movie.

I just never got into him at all. He was bland and not very funny. Plus he’s apparently quite the douche bag in real life. All he ever had going for him was Carpool Karaoke which was maybe funny a couple times but wore thin and was overdone.

He will be on Kimmel this week.
I only watched if he had good guests.
Maybe if they let Reggie Watts host the show it would have been something unique.

I wonder now if it was his decision to leave or CBS did not want to lose more money?

Sources told Brian Stelter for Los Angeles Magazine that the late-night show, hosted by James Corden since 2015, cost $60 million to $65 million a year to produce but only made less than $45 million.
"It was simply not sustainable," an anonymous executive told Stelter: "CBS could not afford him anymore."
Corden announced his exit as a host in April 2022, but it was unclear at the time if the Late Late Show franchise would continue.
But keeping Corden on board was a costly expense. According to Variety, Corden's salary was around $4 million to $5 million when he first signed onto the show in 2015. His pay increased an undisclosed amount in 2019 to ensure the British host stayed onboard for another three years.

$65m is a lot for a show that airs at 12:35 am.

Re: The Late Late Show with James Corden (CBS) -- Discussion Thread
I’m curious by comparison what Craig Ferguson’s budget was when he had The Late Late Show. I would guess it was less. Probably the main costs were his salary and the salary of Josh Robert Thompson (voice of Geoff).
He had the week long shows in Scotland and in France so those were fairly costly I’m sure. He didn’t do a ton of on location or out of the studio segments though.
Truthfully though I feel like the lower budget of Craig’s version was part of the appeal.

This week there are repeats.
If they get a new host I prefer they keep the talk show format and not turn it into a game show.

Couldn't be better timing. Talk show time slot is open and Tucker Carlson needs a job.

Even if you are not a fan this was pretty cool.
Maybe they could have gotten Leno and Conan to do something in this sketch too since they got Letterman.
