A common problem in Hollywood. I've read interviews with writers who were proud of the fact they had little or no exposure to genre source material. They claimed it would help them be "original". Without familiarity with the source how would they know what's original and what wasn't, or what the genre's tropes are?

FtWD's obvious problem is they've abandoned the show's original premise in favor of a journey storyline.
