So....you can see a sunset over the ocean in the Hamptons? Uh, I don't think so...

the biggest problem i have is the production almost looks amateurish. their budget must be lite.

^ that's pretty much all the shows on USA, and they are relatively low budget.

Re: Royal Pains -- "TB or not TB" -- 6/25/09

A few weeks ago I was going to chime in and mention how I really enjoy the show because it's nice to see the lead character as a geunine, caring person- but this show is crazy boring. Evan also works my last nerve. I've didn't like him from day one. He runs around like an annoying, horny little 13-year old. I remember mentioning not knowing how they were going to stretch the premise of the pilot into a multi-episode series and I was right. This would've made a decent movie, but not a series.

I still think it's a good idea for a series, just not in the way they're taking it.

You could from Hampton North, couldn't you? It is an island after all so the western horizon can be visible from the coastline of SOME part of the island.

I am in the minority...I like this show because it is just plain fun. I am more than willing to look past a few of the plot holes, but I dig it.

And to quote a very good friend of mine, "the bitches in this show is fine"!

Did any of you catch up with the marathon on Sunday?

Post 4th of July it was a great excuse to sit on the couch and watch some entertaining TV.

I predict in the next 2 episodes we're going to have some romantic involvement between Evan and Divya.

I like the brother but man, Divya can't act for shit - she's really terrible IMO. Interested to see where the Campbell Scott storyline is going - the shark certainly seems to imply Cancer or Alzheimer's (Deep Blue Sea style!)...

I like the show even though it has some flaws. It's nice to see that USA has 2 of the highest rated cable shows right now (this and Burn Notice)

Royal Pains -- "No Man is an Island" -- 7/9/09

Royal Pains

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Hank and Evan take a weekend-long job looking after a wealthy family on their private technology-free island. Despite Hank's misgivings, a woman in the family plans to give birth on the island. Evan, meanwhile, clashes with a teenage family member. Back home, Jill navigates hospital politics.

My personal wish would be that they tone done Evan's ridiculous antics.

One thing I do like is Hank and Jill. I thought the final scene in the last episode with them together was actually kinda cute.

This one wasn't half-bad except for the brother (as usual).

Re: Royal Pains -- "No Man is an Island" -- 7/9/09

This episode seemed to drag on twice as long as Burn Notice. Hank's few moments of MacGyver Medicine were the only thing of interest.

So, I think we were supposed to feel good for Evan at the end of the episode because he "saved the day" by fixing the satellite phone (where did that convenient talent come from?) and gave a pep talk to the kid who ended up saving the old guy's life. But, as a guy, I can't get past the fact that he cockblocked his brother and then acted like a total dickwad afterwards.

Evan and Hank have daddy issues? Just like every other character on TV right now? How original.

If this was a fall show, I think I would have dropped it already.

This was the best episode thus far IMO. Evan is still a bit annoying, but not as much as he has been. Jill being drunk a few episodes back kind of turned me off from her character and I haven't gotten back to square one with her yet.

I kind of like the show. It's hardly great but it's Shakespeare compared to HawthoRNe and Nurse Jackie, both of which I find unwatchable.

I am still in the not bad not great camp, and will probably keep watching it on-demand.

I actually like HawthoRNe, but I can see the know-it-all nurse bit getting old real quick, possibly before the end of the first season. Especially with Jada in the lead role. The daughter on that show works my last nerve. She's on Evan-level for me.

Re: Royal Pains -- "No Man is an Island" -- 7/9/09

Thought this was a pretty good episode.

I enjoyed all the Hank and Jill moments. Kind of cliched that they got interrupted by dumbass Evan before getting it on for the 1st time. But, I think the moments that they do have are nice.

The stuff at the island kind of dragged a little.

I fully expected the interruption to come, but it was a bit of stretch for him to have "ruined the moment" or whatever. Have these people never had roommates?

Re: Royal Pains -- "No Man is an Island" -- 7/9/09

I also enjoyed the episode. I must be in the minority but I find most of the things that come out of the brothers mouth hilarious! I think he has a lot of underlying issues and actually uses comedy as a way to cover that. The conversation and his reaction in the kitchen between him and Hank gets at this.

The thing I've found the most annoying about the show so far has been Devia. She was better in this episode, but she's too brusk. They imply a hard background for her, but unless we see some of that I have little sympathy.

For a short summer run I think the show is fun and would watch it if that's all we get from June-August.

Oh, and who came up with the intro montage? Blech!!

I was just glad they didn't have an emergency birth. I could also do with far less of the brother. At least with Burn Notice, the anoying brother is only in a few shows.
