I'm not. I never thought Hannah was particularly strong. Above average, but with some blind spots, and against weak competitors. I had no idea Ben would blow it out so big though.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

So, who's going to remember it? It seems to have been toned down from 'we will all remember this' to 'speaking only for myself, I will remember that.'

Regardless, it still makes no sense. The show was already written, and apparently it's only one week of episodes.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

It's weird that Wil Wheaton is singling out Ken Jennings when other programs are still in production and actors, directors, and crew who are all union members are crossing those lines and still working.

And Ken isn't doing anything that Alex Trebek didn't do, who also kept hosting Jeopardy through two writers strikes.

It does make his motives seem suspect.

I've always liked Wheaton, seemed like a decent fellow, but he's really showing his ass here.

Yeah, I don't get the Wheaton bitching.

Great final in Masters. Good game theory in the 2nd game FJ.

I was shocked that nobody got the second Final Jeopardy. Even with a minimal understanding of Latin, it was pretty obvious it was a reference to Le Morte d'Arthur by Thomas Malory, which is itself English Lit 101 stuff. All three should have gotten it, though James on the right track but in the wrong century.

One of those rare times that I got the FJ and everybody playing muffed it.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Sadly I knew the Latin translation and that it related to King Arthur, but didn't know Malory. Somehow I missed out on English Lit 101 while taking math, science, and computer classes. What a waste of time those turned out to be! I can split an atom but I couldn't come up with the name of a 15th century author.

I had no idea - I just defaulted to Chaucer like Mattea did. But I suck on literature.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Celebrity Jeopardy new season starts on Wednesday night this week, in primetime on ABC. Ken hosting, since Mayim is still not (or was not, anyway) hosting in solidarity with the writer's strike.

The regular season already started a couple weeks ago with a special 2nd chance tournament for contestants from Season 37, using recycled clues due to the writer's strike.

And her official statement:

Well I guess it’s back to selling crappy supplements and questioning vaccine safety and making dumb multi-camera sitcoms.

I'm guessing she may still host the prime time version of the show.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Probably a mistake that the show thinks they need to have a host that have bona fides for being smart. Trebek might have been as dumb as a box of rocks. Every time Jennings or Bialik show any personality, it somehow makes the news as a scandal for Jeopardy! viewers. Just find someone bland and amiable who can speak clearly and read.

Looking at the comments on Deadline, I'm surprised at the hate that some people feel for Ken Jennings. I prefer him.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Jennings started off pretty shaky, but his delivery has gotten soooo much more polished over time and I now think he is doing a fine job. My biggest issue with Bialik is her habit of pausing after several correct responses, making you think that she's going to say "no". It drives my wife nuts but it bothers me as well. Other than that, I think she has done quite well. But I do think it less awkward if they just have one host.

And yet I was surprised at the hate I saw online for Bialik.

And personally, I think it's because Mayim Bialik isn't exceptionally attractive. If Scarlett Johansson hosted with the exact same style as Bialik, everyone would be clamoring for her to be permanent and complain every time Jennings came back for a stint.

I don't think it has to do with attractiveness. To Alex Trebek, hosting was his passion. Ken Jennings passion is trivia, Mayim is foremost, an actress. To her, hosting Jeopardy is just another gig. In the long run, that makes Ken the better choice in my opinion.
