Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Going back to last week, I can't believe that as a Police fan I missed the Roxanne FJ. I was thinking the answer was Lady Marmalade
(the clue was, paraphrasing, the idea for this song came when the group saw a group of prostitutes standing in front of a poster for a production of Cyrano de Bergerac) |

Yesterday's game adds to my theory that Jonathan has won so many games on being lucky. Missing two daily doubles and still manages to win. He's missed more answers than previous long running champions its crazy how long his win streak has been at his play level and should've been eliminated by now.

Adios, John C. Reilly-looking guy.
We'll see you in the Tournament of Champions. |

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
John C. Reilly was beaten by the female Ned Flanders (Although I'm sure she won't wear the dark green sweater over the pink shirt every game).

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
It might be too early but that Andrew might be another long running champ. Pretty impressed at already hitting over $100k .
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Andrew is averaging about $35k per game for his first three games. Does the show invite people to the Tournament of Champions who win a lot of money, even if they don't win five days?

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Really good game last night. Second place person had exactly half of Andrew, they bet it all on FJ and got it. Andrew bet a dollar on FJ and also got the right answer, thus winning the day by $1.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
The guy that's the current Jeopardy champion is having a good run. He just got over $61,000 today and is nearly at $500,000 after twelve wins!!

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Yeah, but you know what's not cool? Intentional misgendering.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Agreed. That was a garbage post.

Ken says "Amy" twice and "she" four times when he comes to her for Final Jeopardy. He says this as clearly as he announces her winnings.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Seems like a lot more long streaks this season. Amy is a very strong player.

And again, I was listening to it as background noise for the most part. The part that stood out to me was the amount she won and the number of wins.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Ken is a good host, but I liked Mayim better.
Amy is a terrific contestant. It does seem there are more long winning streaks than usual this season. |

See above for an example of how to lose respect, and that's unfortunate. Maybe the post I made above the one that was quoted was just background noise.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I think my last post was snarky and I'm sorry about that. Here's what I'm trying to get at, please hear me out.
You made an error and you explained what happened that led to the error. But it also comes off like you can't bring yourself to say "Oops." And to me, "Oops" can go a long way. I mean, misgendering a person who is transgender isn't a little thing. It can be the cause of a lot of pain for people. I 100% take you at your word that you didn't know Amy is not a "guy." I don't doubt you on that, I really don't. But when the error was pointed out to you instead of admitting your error, you explained it away with no ownership for the error in the first place. You have a person who is transgender telling you how it came off. You have me telling you how it came off. You have other members "liking" those posts about how you came off. Adding a simple "Oops, my mistake," or "Sorry about that" to any of your next three posts can go a long way. It doesn't need to be, and really it shouldn't be, anything drawn out or a full-fledged treatise of apology. But a little "Sorry, Amy is having a good run" is fully appropriate. I'm not... the only person... who thinks this... a brief apology... is helpful... Can you see where I'm coming from on this? |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Dude explained why he made the error. All these snarky comments would be better served as DMs to the user, no? At this point you are the one drawing out this drama and all over a simple mistake and an assumption.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I'd wager that the people who have been watching Jeopardy probably read this post:
The guy that's the current Jeopardy champion is having a good run. He just got over $61,000 today and is nearly at $500,000 after twelve wins!! I haven't watched Jeopardy in several weeks, but it seems like if someone had those figures ($61,000 today and $500,000 over twelve wins") they've been watching it would know the gender of the contestant they were referring to. And if you haven't been watching and only picked up this information secondhand, it's also a big assumption to assume that it was man and not a woman who had a good run. Maybe movieguru is on the level with what he claims happened (it happens), but it does seem suspect to jump into a thread and refer to a transwoman as "this guy/he." |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
That's how I read it, and if it was wrong to jump to the conclusion that it was intentional, it's just because I have read too many other things like it that absolutely were intentional slights. If it was an honest mistake, I apologize for jumping on you, but I'm very emotional right now, and it set me off.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Shit, people, please give him the benefit of the doubt! If it was an honest mistake based on hearing a male voice but not seeing a woman on the screen, there's no need to drag it out.

Though we have the professor tourney this week. Yawn. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
I like professors. My sister is a professor.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
My dad was a professor. He was never on Jeopardy, though.
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
My father had a nickname of 'The Professor' but he was not an actual professor, nor was he on Jeopardy!
He also wasn't much of a father, so at least he was consistent. |
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Wonder how this guy would have performed... Is he a forum member father?

Why aren't all the posts in this thread in the form of a question?

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
When referring to Jeopardy! isn't there only one "Professor"?
|
Re: Jeopardy! Discussion
Who’s going to be host going forward? I want Bialik, but Jennings is EP and like royalty there, but so boring! Mayim Bialik has personality and the smarts.
