The Flash (S1E21) -- "Grodd Lives" -- 5/5/15

Re: The Flash (S1E21) -- "Grodd Lives" -- 5/5/15
Hopefully it's better now that she knows Barry is the Flash. Before, since she was the only person to not know, it felt like she was in a bubble and couldn't interact very much with the rest of the them. While there was a good group dynamic with the others, Iris was off doing her own thing and wasn't very interesting.
It also feels like she could be written better. It feels like the writers had to make her more interesting by injecting relationship drama, but she comes off negative and shallow much of the time. While the superhero stuff has been pretty great, the romance drama stuff hasn't been good.
I think it's going to be a challenge for the writers to get her to fit into the group for next season. I suppose she could be something like Oracle and feed Barry info, but that's kind of what Cisco and Caitlin already do. Maybe it might have been better to introduce Iris at a later date or have her play a smaller role in the show.

I would imagine she will use her news resources to help team Flash fight crime. That, or she will become Lois Lane girl reporter and continually stick her nose in dangerous situations that only Flash can save her.

So where does Grodd fit in the timeline with the real Dr. Wells? Was Grodd an experiment started by Wells or Eobard?

The only thing I've liked well and good is probably when Reverse Flash is doing his thing. I like Joe, Wells, and... I think that's it. I don't know why I like Joe so much. Maybe cuz he just seems like a nice guy that actually seems to fit better in all this somehow for me. My roommate likes to watch the show cuz she has Hulu. And I got nothing else to do. I've an insane amount of free time.

I have to believe it was Thawne with his future technology that created a super-intelligent ape. Why would a physicist like the original Dr. Wells suddenly start doing experiments on an ape?

Wells could have started experimenting with basic stuff and Thawn just ratcheted it up once he took over. I dunno, it could play into Wells being the daddy and Grodd turning on Thawn if he found out.

I thought that while the episode was Iris heavy, it's understandable that she we get so much screen time after she finds out. I also thought that the actress did some of her best work. I know it's hard to deal with the Iris drama, but I think she's getting better at acting it out, and the writers are doing better for her.

With the title, summary and line-up of The CW’s newest TV installment of the DC universe just announced, the heroes (and villains) of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will actually arrive sooner than you think! Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter and more will make their team debut on May 19th during The Flash season one finale.
For those of you who have been hearing drips and drabbles about the third Greg Berlanti-produced CW TV series for weeks now, here’s the full line-up (as of today):
• Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer, The Atom
• Clara Renee as Hawkgirl
• Doctor Who’s Arthur “Rory” Darvill as time-traveling hero Rip Hunter
• Caity Lotz, the first Black Canary on Arrow, in an unspecified role which may be a resurrected Black Canary or an entirely new character
• Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller as Flash villain Captain Cold
• Dominic Purcell, who played Wentworth Miller’s brother on Prison Break, as Captain Cold’s partner-in-crime Heat Wave
• Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein, who is half of the superhero Firestorm (along with Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond)
• And last but not least, Attack the Block’s Franz Drameh as a character named Jay Johnston, who is described as “a former high school athlete, whose pro [sports] career was derailed by injury. Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew” which sounds almost exactly like the DC superhero Cyborg, but who knows
If you’re wondering how and why this intensely mismatched team comes together, well, this first synopsis should clear it up:
When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?
See? Anyways, Legends of Tomorrow won’t premiere until this fall, but you can get an unofficial sneak peek when Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter and whoever the hell Lotz and Drameh are playing make their first appearance in the DC TV universe on The Flash season one finale, titled “Fast Enough.”
These four new characters will be joined by their new teammates The Atom, Dr. Stein, Captain Cold and Heat Wave. Honestly, Legends of Tomorrow sounds almost too weird to work, but given how great The Flash has been during its first season, I don’t even have to give it the benefit of the doubt. I’m just betting it’ll be pretty great. Is anyone particularly worried?

I agree. Comic book SOP is a love interest (and they're generally annoying when not in the know). And she was fine. Not sure why the nerds are upset.

I don't hate Iris either, but she's easily the weakest link on the show.

I am amazed that the writers made the most annoying character currently on television even more annoying. That takes talent.
I wanted to shoot my TV by the end of this episode. Or at least shoot her.
She just wouldn't shut up in this episode and kept saying the same shit over and over. Here I thought it would be a good thing that she knew who Barry was and now I find myself regretting that. When they mentioned that the "four" of them defeated Grodd, I just groaned. That only can mean even more of Iris in future episodes.

I am not disagreeing that Iris has been saddled as the character on the show who did a lot of whining, but I think folks are being too hard on her, seeing as how the by-line from the future shows that she clearly has the right stuff to hang with a group of superheroes. Also, the special effects for Grodd and the fight would not have been out of place in a big screen film, this show really gives a damm about trying to present special effects that are not only one step above those seen in an Asylum produced film, and that is really appreciated.
Also, her entering Star Labs without going through security measures...I am surprisingly okay that they simply show her walking up to the group all what the heck Barry, why didn't you tell me were the Flash? They could have shown the crew looking at security footage of her skulking around Star Labs, and come to the conclusion that the jig is up, and they should let her in on the action, so they just cut to the chase, I can live with that.
I do love this show, and will stop letting them pile up on my TiVo, because it feels really good to be caught up.

team flash is almost as responsible for grodd being evil as the general is. They didn't even attempt to talk to him they just went in armed and started shooting at the first sound of grodd. They already know grodd doesn't hate caitlin because she was nice to him when he was being held for the experiments so why not have her try to talk to him?

I can only assume that since the STAR Labs explosion no one wants/wanted anything to do with them and leaves them be.

No one has mentioned the residual radiation that is probably inundating Star Labs from the explosion. The joke will be on them when Cisco dies of cancer in season four.

It irks me to no end that they never hired any construction crews to fix the exteriors of the building. I'm sure some city official would have been on their ass over the building being a giant safety code violation.

The Incredible Hulk was an incredibly successful TV show around that time and Superman had proven to be a box office force. Hollywood was still figuring out the audience for superhero entertainment in those days. They assumed it was mostly for young boys and most were familiar with the very campy 60's Batman show.
