I'm betting just the opposite ... This will be another season that ends on a whimper, not a bang.

So now you've got a place that could, in theory, be the start of someplace new. And you've got one doctor in that place who is beating his wife. If you let him keep being the doctor, he'll keep beating (and probably end up killing) his wife. If you lock him up, you have to feed him and guard him and he won't be helping you anymore either. Rick's solution is to kill him because that's how their group has resolved this kind of thing before (see: Lizzie). But the Alexandrians see their only doctor getting beaten up by one of the "savages" who just arrived.

It's the kind of thing that should be relatively easy to handle in our world (and I realize it's not) but it's a life or death situation in this one.
Why kill the only doctor and surgeon in the community? Rick's "solution" seems awfully self-serving for his own needs. We are now basically dealing with Shane Part Deux in Rick.

One of the major things I think the show has failed to do was properly establish Rick as a decent leader, someone who folks would want to follow and actually listen to. To turn him as wild as they did in this episode, I think he had to have established himself better in previous seasons or at least re-establish himself after previous crazy bouts. I don't have any issues with the situation at hand as a story line, but Rick went a little too far cuckoo to me.

On the flip side, I really liked the girls letting loose in this episode. Sasha seems destined to bad things, but it was nice seeing Michonne react and the quick flashbacks to her killing zombies. They've done a decent job with their struggles with civilization.

Re: The Walking Dead (S5E15) -- "Try" -- 3/22/15

Rick's been through a lot.

Lori died during childbirth. The prison fell. Got captured by a gang who almost raped his son, got captured by cannibals who nearly slaughtered them for food, lost three people in rapid succession (Beth, Ty, Noah), and now they're living in a sort of suburban paradise where the inhabitants are oblivious to the dangers beyond their walls.

And on a more personal level, Rick, who lost his wife, is confronted by a woman he's attracted to who is married to a shitheel who treats her like a punching bag. Men can get really jealous of other men's women, especially when he perceives that her man isn't good enough for her. And they don't always know how to deal with those feelings, which can lead to them doing really stupid things. Combine this with the PTSD that Rick is going through, and it's a recipe for trouble.

Carol's casserole was scarier than the walkers.

the scariest part of this week's episode was Coral's outfit on The Talking Dead. It's like he raided Corey Feldman's wardrobe from Dream A Little Dream.

This. Not to mention seeing Herschel decapitated in front of him while Rick tried to be reasonable and negotiate peace. He knows what people are capable of in the "real" world and knows that Alexandria is naive and extremely vulnerable. Not to mention there still seems to be something off with the town...

Everyone can criticize Rick all they want for going crazy and nearly killing the doctor, but how are the citizens of Alexandria any better than him? They frequently leave their own people to die without any second thought and are willing to let a man beat his wife and terrorize his son. In a way, their indifference makes them complicit with the doctor's actions.

I posted it before the actual fight (was catching while watching on DVR). I don't buy that the doctor would have gotten the upper-hand on Rick.

Re: The Walking Dead (S5E15) -- "Try" -- 3/22/15

Now the show is back on track as it has everything that makes it interesting. First, you need an older person who is going to challenge Rick and his ideology (Like Dale & Herschel), and Deanna is a good foil to Rick in that sense. Then you need someone in the group to disagree with Rick on how to handle something, and Michonne KO'ing him at the end sets up a nice finale in who is the real sheriff now?

I am a big Rick fan, but he is turning into Shane. If you remember in Season 2, Shane wanted to storm the barn and Rick told him not to do it out of respect to Herschel, because Rick wanted to be somewhat political. Now Rick pulled a Shane attacking Pete and going against Deanna, and Michonne steps up and looks like the new Rick.

Because nothing helps mourn the loss of a loved one like Nine Inch Nails.

I thought it was an ok episode.

I guess Rick now has to find his way to get clear. Maybe Morgan can arrive and return the favor.

Well, it was that or the foreshadowing dubstep track they played when the van went out on its mission last week... "Now you're going to die!"

Yeah, that whole portion was pretty much scene for scene from the books.

Sometimes I wish I was up to date with the comics.

The episode was barely OK. It looks too disconnected. I always defend the show, but right now I feel like I missed some episodes or parts.

Rick should have used his other less direct approach on Jessie

I am caught up, but this was quite a while ago. I'm going to have to re-read those issues.

Re: The Walking Dead (S5E15) -- "Try" -- 3/22/15

Since we are talking about the comics... I would like to read and get caught up on all of the comics before the next season starts. My son has the two large compendiums that I believe go up to ~100...

What is the best/cheapest way to get the rest? Is there a way to get them digitally on the iPad?

Thanks...

Looks like compendium 3 comes out in October if you want to wait. Otherwise Comixology has the various collections to purchase digitally on your iPad.

Rick has plenty of reasons to be batshit crazy, I won't disagree with that. However EVERYBODY in his group has lost as much, if not more, than he has. Rick still has most of his family. He now has a familiar "job" tying him back to his old life. Yet, almost everybody has managed to adjust MUCH better than Rick.

As for comparing Rick to the Alexandrians, they are far more alike than different. I may take some flak for this, but allowing the surgeon to beat his wife is no different than many of the decisions Rick and his group have made: sacrifice for the greater good.

Believe it or not, your public library. They probably can't get single issues, but they should be able to get the various forms of the multi-issue releases.

Your best bet would be to get the compendiums. Comixology will likely have a big 99 cents per issue sale of the entire series a week or so before the next season starts.
