Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Watched three new ones yesterday: Christmas Duet, Holiday for Heroes, A Blue Ridge Mountain Christmas. All good, none particularly notable. Holiday for Heroes might’ve been my favorite of the bunch, though the returning-veteran angle is as much a cliche of these movies as small-town pageants and snowball fights. Marc Blucas is always solid.

Hopefully folks can share there faves, I picked up A Dad for Christmas and a Snowed in Christmas so far....
Having seen most of those movies, the top row in VUDU's list are probably your best bets. It's a spotty list of Lifetime's lesser Christmas movies except for the fantastic Snowed Inn Christmas and maybe Poinsettias for Christmas.

I did an iMDB search on all the films and grabbed the high 6's and 7's, I wound up getting Snowed in Christmas, Christmas Harmony, A Gift Wrapped Christmas, and a Dad for Christmas, I watched Poinsettias last year so not grabbing that one this go round...

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Saw this blip on slickdeals:
There are 5 Lifetime Christmas movies on Amazon that aren't on sale on Vudu. These are:

Finding Mrs. Claus, Holiday Spin, An En Vogue Christmas, The Christmas Consultant and Becoming Santa.

I grabbed Finding Mrs. Claus with some digital credits

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

This seems to be the go to thread for tv Christmas movies, I watched the ABC Christmas movie Same Time, Next Christmas starring Lea Michele and I really enjoyed it. It was set it Hawaii and had some gorgeous visuals aided by a Network tv budget. Check it out if you have time.

I'm glad you caught it. It's also on Hulu and ABC's website/app if anyone missed it wants to watch it. I like it better than some of the Hallmark Christmas movies, but Network money helped it to have a better cast, location, equipment, etc.

Write before Christmas was good, 7/10, the best 2019 hallmark I've seen so far...

I enjoyed watching Merry & Bright. Jodie Sweetin has been making some good Hallmark movies. I also liked her in Finding Santa (2017) and Entertaining Christmas (2018).

Sense, sensibility and snowman didn't do much for me, I like the lead from when calls the heart, but not much chemistry with the dude and the story was kind of meh.. 5.5/10

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

My favorite new Hallmark movie this year has been Christmas In Evergreen: Tidings of Joy. Maggie Lawson stars but Hallmark really pulled out all the stops for this movie, bringing in stars from prior Evergreen movies like Jill Wagner and Holly Robinson as supporting players. There's no real need to watch earlier Evergreen movies for it to make sense, the movie is about a magical little town in Vermont. Quite an unusual script for Hallmark with a lot of interesting touches and original ideas.

One that bored me to tears was a Nostalgic Christmas. Pedestrian romance and tired plotting about a toy store closing down after Christmas.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Watched the Hallmark hall of fame production, a Christmas love story with K Chenoweth and Scott Bailey, directed by Eric Close, this was good, 7/10.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

I watched Christmas under the Stars last week.

It has Jesse Metcalfe, Autumn Reeser and Clarke Peters.

I actually really liked this one. Sweet story about a brash hot shot broker, who loses his job and is down on his luck. An old Christmas Tree salesman decides to help him out and give him a job.

Some nice moments and nice chemistry between Peters and Metcalfe as well as his romantic interest Reeser, who plays a single Mom.

Catch a re-air if you can. it's a very likable movie.

Reeser is usually a safe bet for Hallmark productions.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Finished up Christmas Perfection. This is from Lifetime and apparently aired last year for the first time. I really enjoyed the premise of a woman getting stuck in a fantasy "perfect" Christmas village that she had to repeat day after day. That idea was great, like a Christmas Groundhog's Day. Only problem was that the romantic male lead was basically a non-entity with little screen time, which allowed for very little development.

Recommended but the movie fell short of its potential.

I recently watched Evergreen 3 and liked it. The appearances by previous leads Wagner and Ashley Williams are cameos, but they were fun for continuity. I wasn’t a fan of Williams’ character on HIMYM but she’s well-suited for Hallmark.

Christmas in Rome with Lacey Chabert and Check Inn for Christmas with Rachel Boston were both good. Still haven’t watched a really memorable new one, though.

That’s a great price and kind of tempting even though I have some on Vudu.

Not Hallmark, but ABC actually had a decent one air recently. It was called Same Time, Next Christmas. One of the more enjoyable I’ve watched in a while for a Christmas themed TV movie.

Same but I bought them in case Vudu goes away.... the buying part..not Vudu going away. That would be awful.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Over on UP TV, the Erica Durance-starring The Christmas Chalet is merely okay. I always liked Durance as Lois on Smallville but she needs a strong script and great cast mates to pull anything out of her, which this project didn't have. Just a few years ago she was playing twentysomethings and now she's playing the mother of very old teenagers.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Just checked Fandango Now and they have a lot of this past year's (newest Hallmark movie releases) on sale along with older titles for $5.99. I haven't seen any of the newer releases for this price anywhere. Have yet to see Amazon match these prices. How is FandangoNow's streaming quality vs. iTunes vs. Vudu etc.

That’s a great price, though my only Fandango purchases have been MA titles that I watched on other services. Because Hallmark isn’t MA I’d have to watch them on Fandango, and I don’t know offhand if they have apps on the game consoles I usually use.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Will be interesting to see if Amazon matches these prices in the next day or so. There are 16 new releases for the $6 price that are not listed anywhere else for sale at that price. FandangoNow seems to have the best Hallmark Countdown for Christmas sale in terms of titles being made available.
