Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
Vera Farmiga should have been nominted in the best actress category. She was nominated last year and she did good this year and I thought she would have been nominated. Claire Danes doesn't deserve a nomination. ETA: I just noticed Killing Kennedy got a nod in the TV movie category, I think it is a deserving nod.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
The lack of Hannibal nominations really affects my feelings on the whole bunch in the categories where Hannibal should have got a nod. Not that they would have won, but not better than some others on the list. Phftt.
But at least Fargo was appropriately noticed.
Robert Morse as Guest Actor? Since when it he not just as much of a regular as some of the other small part/multiple season actors and actresses on that show? He didn't even dance off into the sunset until late in the season.

You just haven't been paying attention. He's always been listed as a Guest Actor and has been nominated in the Guest Actor in a Drama Series Category as Bert Cooper five times now. Like every actor on Mad Men, he's never won though.

Which shows you the industry has no idea what talent really is...the Emmys are nothing but pats on the back and "you vote for my show/actor, I'll vote for yours" exchanges. So they could care less about a show on BBC America that gets half a million viewers a week and is filmed in Toronto.

Snubbing Tatiana again is ludicrous.
Billy Bob better win.

And having him in that category doesn't make sense no matter how many times they have done it. Has anybody form Game of Thrones got nominated in that category? Morse got more screen time some seasons than some of the GoT characters do per season.

Diana Rigg as Lady Olenna the past two years. She's listed as a Guest Star and never has her name in the opening credits. That listing is what determines eligibility.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
Modern Family had a couple pretty solid episodes this season so I won't argue them (and most of this is done on a per episode basis), I don't get Big Bang Theory at all though.
And these emmys are for Game of Thrones Season 4, it started before May 31st. Plus Neil Marshall was nominated for director, and he didn't direct any Season 3 episodes.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
As for listing her as a guest star given how many episodes she appears in, still no sense at all. But that is why I usually do pay little attention to that level of detail. Rather just enjoy her scene stealing performances. The seperate ones with Little Finger and Sansa in S3 were awesome.

Personally I was surprised Martin was nominated. Happy to see Fargo snag that many, but really Freeman's gone and back again Minnesota accent should have been enough to take him down a peg.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
I just looked at the Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Special Category - usually a throw-away category if there is one amongst the acting awards. :
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A TV MINISERIES OR MOVIE
Frances Conroy, American Horror Story: Coven
Kathy Bates, American Horror Story: Coven
Angela Bassett, American Horror Story: Coven
Allison Tolman, Fargo
Ellen Burstyn, Flowers in the Attic
Julia Roberts, The Normal Heart
Poor Allison Tolman -- no way is she really a supporting actress on Fargo - she has by far the biggest part on the show and now she's shuffled into a category that has her (a previously unknown actress) competing against three Best Actress Oscar winners (and another Best Actress Oscar nominee). I think she'd have had a better shot in the Best Actress category.

i loved the physical changes Thornton brought to the part in his different personas. I thought ir was masterful.

Re: 2014 Emmy Discussion Thread
Not to harp to much on the categories, but in what world does it make sense that Allison Tolman is a supporting actress on that show? This is one reason why I have basically ignored the Emmy's in the past.
