I too respect her work on it and it can be funny at times, but stuff like that irks me and makes me think she's a little full of herself. Especially after winning the awards.

Bummer, it did? I loved S1 and a lot of S2, planned on getting SHO over Xmas to marathon it. Not totally unexpected it wouldn't be a great season I guess, but is it worth my time?
What I'm saying is it might feel different if you watched it in a vacuum at home, but I can't really imagine anyone coming out the other end of Season 3 thinking they watched a show worthy of their time, let alone the previous two seasons of Homeland. It was a real aimless, implausible mess and a huge disappointment to me. |
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I went other -- Big Bang Theory.
I've seen enough episodes to think that its a decent show. If I catch a syndicated episode, I'll half watch it and enjoy it. But I can say the same for Two and a Half Men. But I don't get the award nominations and the overly high praise. IMO, Its Always Sunny and Parks and Rec are leaps and bounds better than TBBT but don't get half the award praise. I just don't get it. |

If anything American Idol is dying a slow death. It hasn't been relevant since Simon Cowell left.
Of course, my full hatred of them, I know someone that is going to be on a reality show next month. You can bet I'll be posting in that thread when it pops up. Not exactly thrilled with the person. |

I'm voting newsroom, Daniels robbed Hamm, Cranston and spacey of an Emmy this season

Just realized that I probably should have put The Big Bang Theory in the poll. It's currently the most watched 30 minute comedy on TV right now.

Yeah, I was surprised not to see TBBT there, as commercially successful and popular as it is, a lot of people loathe it and would vote for it in a heartbeat.

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I watch quite a few shows and have only watch three on this list and the first season of another.
Normally I would say Game Of Thrones because I find it to be a hateful, cruel, lifeless, depressing show. However that could just be my taste in shows and not a reflection of the acting, and other aspects of the show. |
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I went with Glee since it's the only show listed that I truly dislike.

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
Went with Walking Dead because of its huge popularity in spite of being a pretty poor, horribly written and trite show. I watch because I keep hoping that they will approach the material more intelligently, but logic or reason does not seem to matter to the show, they just want to use plot as a convenience to set up various conflicts and events whether they make any sense whatsoever.

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
Some of these shows were never highly rated in the first place.
It has to be The Walking Dead given its insane ratings. Take away the zombies and you are left with a wildly inconsistent series. The constant zombie action is keeping audiences interested but the writing is uneven and its acting has some problems. Andrew Lincoln is in over his head as the lead character. There have been stretches of good episodes but the plotting is suspect and seems driven by AMC's budgetary problems. In the comedy category, it has to be The Big Bang Theory. Another wildly popular show that has been coasting off its reputation for at least three seasons. What started out as a consistently funny, traditional sitcom has evolved into a tired kludge of characters. |

Also at this point I'd almost say that The Simpsons is underrated personally. The show has a lot of haters now days but in my opinion the show has actually gotten pretty good again since around season twenty or so to present.

Girls by a mile. And it's not Dunham's boobs I have a problem with. It's the rest of the show.

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I think Modern Family is receiving it's fair share of negativity now. People are starting to tire of it, I think. Good.
I think House of Cards is overrated in terms of reviews, awards attention and such. I thought it was a serious bore. |

Wow, I'm not sure. I loved Season 1 and Season 2. I watched them on Blu and was surprised to find that there was a big backlash at the second half of S2 last year. I loved the twists they threw in the first half of S2 and just rolled with the second half. Plus I think there's a fundamental difference in the experience of watching a show episode by episode on Blu Ray vs watching weekly as it unfurls and absorbing all the intricacies (as well as reading a lot of weekly blogs and discussion here on a week-to-week basis).

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
Homeland has been far and away the most overrated thing on TV since its inception.
|
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
Voted Modern Family.
But TBBT is really close behind. |
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
American Horror Story. While I've enjoyed Asylum and Coven, it didn't deserve any of the awards/nominations it received.

Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
A bit surprised it's not on the list, but my pick is Boardwalk Empire. Keeping in mind that my definition of 'overrated' isn't necessarily the worst show, but rather one that gets excessive critical and awards acclaim relative to what I think it actually deserves. I really wanted to love this show, because I love the setting and theme, but for me the execution just wasn't very interesting.
|
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I think Boardwalk Empire corrected course in terms of being overrated. The show has excellent production values and solid acting, but I agree it is brutally uninteresting. It didn't get a Best Series nod this year at the Emmys, and critically it has around a 77 on metacritic - so while well off, it isn't wildly high. Now its nominations and wins are mostly technical, which it does deserve (though Game of Thrones is more deserving in many aspects).
The pilot was good, the rest of the first season was a chore. It improved a little as it went on but not by much. |
Re: Most overrrated show currently on TV?
I went with The Walking Dead. I was initially reluctant to start watching it when it first aired in 2010 because I was sick of the zombie craze at that point, but I gave it a shot and did enjoyed the first season. I stuck with it because I was interested to see what the writers could do with a weekly zombie show, but in the following seasons they didn't really cover any territory that hadn't already been covered in every other zombie movie made in the last 40+ years. It took me a while to start watching this season and I've been finding the show less and less interesting with each episode (I still have two episodes from this season unwatched on my DVR). I don't think the show is bad, but I don't think it deserves all the praise and attention it constantly gets.
(Side annoyance: I may be in the minority on this, but I can't stand the Michonne character and don't understand all the love she gets. I never read the comics, so maybe her character is different in them, but on the show, IMO, she comes off like a cardboard cutout of a generic loner character) |
