My favorite episode of the year.

The Aids Quartet had me rolling forever

They had a perfectly logical explanation for that at the end of the episode, punctuated by the appearance of Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal.

That apocalypse episde was reset with the "Dallas shower" ending.

The AIDS song reminded me of the Stephen Lynch performance of a Jay Mohr/Mike DiNacola song "Full Blown AIDS"

DRG 06-13-05 11:52 PM

I loved the Superman II gag, as I had always wondered what the hell that plastic logo thing was about.

MovieMaster11 06-14-05 01:20 AM

I loved the Macho Man making a cameo.

Slayer2005 06-14-05 09:14 AM

Hilarious episode and great ending! I was really rolling when Brian spanked Lois and when Peter got kicked in the nuts. I was laughing so hard at the latter, because just about a week before the episode my best friend and I watched a "Kicked in the Nuts" video just like it, but I had no idea it was known so well. I thought it was just a homemade video (hell, maybe it was) of a hidden camera show parody. So for it to just happen to be on the next episode of Family Guy made it about 10X funnier to me, because I never expected in a million years to see it on the show. lol.

Does anyone know more about the "Kicked in the Nuts" video? Did it start on the internet or what?

Da Thrilla 06-14-05 09:32 AM

The Annika Sorenstam part did it for me rotfl

"FRAUD!"

Brent L 06-14-05 07:44 PM

"We are, two wild and crazy guys!"

That entire thing was awesome also. The aids song was the best bit on the show though. To those of you who were offended by that, well, you do understand you were watching Family Guy, right?

Bill Needle 06-14-05 08:03 PM

Another good episode, but I would only put it in the middle of the pack of comeback shows.

Frank TJ Mackey 06-14-05 09:48 PM

why didn't it get A TV-MA for the baby screwing the plastic baby mold or whatever that was??

Yeah, and shouldn't it have been on it's stomach?

No, it wasn't a ripoff of the Team America bit because that was a direct spoof (called "Lease") of the musical "Rent", in which virtually everyone was HIV+ or had AIDS. (Just look at this actual summary of "Rent" and count how many people in it are HIV+)

Family Guy's "You have AIDS" song-and-dance number was instead making fun of the way people tiptoe around telling others bad news.

Um, they never mention homosexual activity in any way; they only say 'unprotected sex'.

Furthermore, they say nothing about the patient dying, let alone deserving to do so.

So the song falls far far short of "calling the guy a f-a-g and telling him that he deserved to die".

Courtesy of the Family Guy Multimedia Archive, "You Have AIDS". Enjoy. :)

p.s., and yes, they also have Rock Lobster. :D

Bonnie will be pregnant forever. Seth said so. So I would get used to it as being a running joke.

Found this over in another forum here:

Dude - you missed my point. It was just outright mean and not funny. I was giving an example of a way it could have been meaner.

Mutley Hyde 06-15-05 09:23 AM

You know, I did get your point, I just didn't agree with it; I don't think it was as mean as you do. And please, don't backtrack; that was no example of how it could have been meaner, it was a declaration of a specific level of meaness you attributed to the skit. You said it fell "just short" of calling the guy gay and saying he should die for having AIDS. And I disagree - I think it falls very very far from such rhetoric (as in nil), and as such, I just don't think it's nearly as mean-spirited as you're saying it is.

I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree here, but really, don't insult my intelligence by claiming I misunderstood your post. I know what you're saying, I just disagree with it.

Big Boy Laroux 06-15-05 09:57 AM

is it just me, or is lois hot? i mean, yeah, she's got a big head and all, but if that ended up bothering me, i could just buy a big paper bag...

oh, plus she's a cartoon... it'll probably never happen... why even get my hopes up.

Well, you could look at it that way, or you could also say that both songs were very simliar in that they are big song and dance numbers, and part of the reason they were supposed to be funny was because of their unPCness about AIDS. It's not a big deal, though, I just didn't find it funny.

On some of the commentaries on the DVDs, one of the writers (Matt Weitzman maybe?) admits that he has a crush on Lois... with the exact same conclusion that you reached. Alex Borstein (also now a writer for the show) was sitting in on one such commentary I think and said that she'd be willing to help him "work something out".

dhmac 06-15-05 06:17 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "American Dad" yet. This episode with Stan going totally anti-terrorist-crazy over the new Iranian neighbors may have been the best one yet! And I just about lost it with the Poltergeit Girl line!! The show is getting better and better (it's not FG level, but it has hitting pretty close every once and a while during the past few episodes).
