If kids watched TV on Friday like they did during say the TGIF block era, yeah, this could be a good fit. As it is a Tuesday at 8 slot is about as family friendly as it gets. I must say I don't get the CHEAP criticism, but I do sort of get the aimed at a younger crowd one (and don't really mind -- I have plenty of dark shows I can watch).

Terrible. Removed this crap from the DVR.
That Jackson cameo at the end was hilariously bad. He looked angry to even be on this shit.

You know watching the beginning of this episode, I thought to myself "this really seems like a lower budget Human Target" and then lo and behold we see the guest star who was on Human Target twice!
Overall though I thought this episode was much better than the pilot, but I think I'm done with it. The movie feels more like they assembled a cast of young and boring characters for no other reason then younger people don't want to watch older actors. Seriously so far the people I was most interested in were Coulson and Ming Na Wen, the younger cast I can't give a crap about.
I also am tired of the movie references. Every time they mention the movies it just makes me think "Look here's little brother trying to hang off the success of big brother" Plus it reminds me of how I'd rather be watching the movies right now then a TV spin off about the movies with nowhere near the budget.
I'm going to try and give another episode a shot because I want to like it, but right now it just isn't doing anything to make me want to keep watching it.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is my new favorite comedy! Seriously, there are like 4 or 5 laugh lines a minute. Is that how they are selling this (I don't see commercials)?
Much better than the pilot, I thought. The airplane action scene was decent. Agree with others, this is a bit too soap-opera-y for my tastes. And it pisses me off to no end when supposedly highly trained agents behave like impudent children. Hell, I came out of this episode liking Ward more than any of the others, a complete 180 from last week. And SLJ's cameo was completely out of character, I thought, whining like a little bitch about his broken plane (which really wasn't damaged much at all, despite what the dialogue would have us believe). Also not happy that this looks like it's going to be the "McGuffin of the week" in format, with people and artifacts that have some vague tie-in to the movies, but have no payoff past the end of the episode.
I'll probably end up watching the whole season still, hoping that it gradually improves week by week.

Weird. I'm one of the few that felt the pilot was alright (just alright, mind you), but felt this 2nd episode was nearly unwatchably bland. Everyone was either annoying or some tired cliche. Yeah, that criticism could be leveled at the pilot, but I thought it was much worse here. Still sticking with it though.

Still enjoying the show. I was just trying to recall a name and I can't recall half of their names yet. The one that is good with computers. They are doing, I here to do this yet will not because I feel bad about it yet Shield likely knows something (I hope they would, she can seriously get into their system from her van) and seeing where things go.

I fell asleep during this, and woke to see SLJ giving Coulson a lecture about the plane. I'll rewatch it tonight, but I hope we get the Tahiti answer soon - they keep reminding us about it.

I'm in for one more episode, but I really hate the entire cast (I even feel like Coulson is mailing it in), and I am not digging this show at all even though I really, really, really want to.

Since they keep hammering the "it was a magical place" line, I'm assuming they took his deceased ass to one of the nine realms.

The series is headed in the right direction. I had a feeling that the pilot was rushed and the series would get better as it goes on. So far, that looks to have been the case.
Jeez, if people went by the pilot to judge a series a lot of great shows would have never lasted more than 6 weeks. Hell, Star Trek TNG really didn't become great until it's THIRD season. Some shows take time to find their footing. It's rare that you have a show like Castle that nails it from minute one. Very rare.
Agents of SHIELD is looking better already, and my bet is that it gets a lot better before it's over.

I'm not championing the show but I'm confused about all the "low rent" and "cheap" comments. From what I've read this is a very expensive (per episode) series, and I think it looks like it.

Most action/dramas these days opt for a very cinematic look; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is lit more like a daytime soap, and it doesn't try to give the digital photography a more film-like look. That makes everything look cheap and distractingly artificial to my eyes. Some of the stunt/effects work can be pretty terrible too. I burst out in laughter in the teaser with Coulson nearly getting sucked out of the plane.
I have to admit that I couldn't make it through the whole episode. Once Coulson started awkwardly speaking in Spanish, I had to turn the TV off. It's just too cheesy, goofy, cartoony '80s-action-series for me.

It looks like a low budget CW show. I would normally say something like "What? It looks like a typical Whedon production" since his material all looks made-for-TV, but this is definitely a step down.

I like the show, but all the CGI of the plane in flight during this episode was crap. Espeically the opening where they show the hole being blown in the plane from the outside.

I don't know what TV shows you guys are watching to compare this to.
Very few TV shows include extensive action/fight sequences and elaborate special effects. This looks pretty good compared to ALIAS and (especially) compared to LOST.
CW shows like ARROW film all there extended action/fight scenes in the dark.
When I compare this to what shows like EUREKA and WAREHOUSE 13 look like, this show looks fantastic.

A television show isn't going to have the budget to do feature-film style special effects, stunts, and locations.

I just completely disagree.
It is entirely okay if you disagree with me, but I'm struggling to think of a show I watch that looks more low-rent than this. Supernatural, Orphan Black, Continuum, The Walking Dead, etc. all have production values -- with considerably fewer resources in some of those cases, even -- that eclipse Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I can't relate. Sorry.

Two things.
If you think this show looks cheaper than Continuum... Oh. My. God.
I see you have a very official position with DVD Talk, but if you aren't familiar with LOST and ALIAS, you might not possess the knowledge base in television to be making these sorts of pronouncements.
