Glad to see Melinda Clarke returning. I always enjoyed the scenes between her and Grissom.

Guess they are going forward without him. Sucks, but I'll still watch anyway.
Wonder how they will incorporate Lady Heather if not having her and Grissom become a couple. Those two actors always had great chemistry, they should send them off together.

Grissom left, married Sara, she came back to work for CSI while he was away lecturing, they eventually divorced.
Grissom made occasional cameo appearances after he left.
Catherine left to work for the FBI
Laurence Fishburne came on as Doctor Raymond Langston in season 9. He lasted roughly 2 1/2 seasons. He also left after he killed a serial killer who was targeting him and his ex-wife. He and his ex reunited, so he bailed.
Brass left 2 seasons ago after his daughter murdered his ex-wife.
Nick left after the series finale when he was offered a promotion to run the San Diego crime lab.
Wendy left due to personal issues. Actually CBS chose to not renew Liz Vassey's contract.
Ted Danson's character DB Russell joined the Vegas crime lab in season 12. He formerly ran the Seattle crime lab. He ran the lab until the very end.
Elisabeth Shue joined the show in season 13 as Julie Finlay. She previously worked with DB in Seattle. She was viciously attacked by a serial killer that she and DB encountered in Seattle, who came to Vegas. She was left in a coma in the series finale. She's not returning for the movie.
Conrad Ecklie was the Assistant Lab directory for most of the show, but took over as the Undersheriff after the previous one murdered Warrick. His daughter Morgan Brody, who previously worked for the LAPD, joined the show in season 11 as a CSI. Ecklie was eventually promoted to Clark County Sheriff.

Thanks for the recap. I think I stopped after the first season with Laurence Fishburne.

Great synopsis Djariya. Way better than I could have done.
I think the only person missing is Greg. He became a full fledged CSI sometime during the Fishburne run.

Re: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (CBS) -- Series Thread
Wow, I had no clue Brass had exited the show over a year ago...! I figured he'd have been on until the very end. Just goes to show how closely I'd been paying attention in recent years.
I'm one of the few who thought CSI actually hit its highest water marks during the Ray Langston/Fishburne years. As seems to bear weight with Hannibal, Fishburne is an excellent actor and that sort of character is very much in his wheel house. As such, it's disappointing to see he won't be a part of the finale movie.
Having watched and stuck with CSI from S1 (on Friday nights, no less!) all the way up until then, one episode of Danson's CSI was all it took to end the show for me. I don't know what it was (maybe having seen too much sitcom/Cheers+Becker Danson), but the character didn't resonate in any way, shape or form, and the main cast as it was in that season premiere seemed exceptionally weak - enough to turn me away from CSI for good.
Here's hoping they know where their bread got buttered and focus almost exclusively on Grissom and Willows, leaving Danson on the outs as but a courtesy towards his current position as the head of the crime lab, only needed as something of a consultant for some case that draws in all the "old gang," despite their long ago departures... rather than the other way around, a continuation from this past season that has a couple tips of the hat to the old cast for cameos/brief appearances.
The cast list for the movie is enough for me to give it a look regardless, but hopefully it'll be more my tastes than Danson's first season proved to be.

Wow, you're pretty much the opposite of everyone else. Most jumped ship with Fishburne because his run on the show was pretty dark, so much so Danson was a breath of fresh air.
I'd rank 'em:
1. Grissom
2. Keppler (Liev Schreiber's short guest stint)
3. D.B. (Danson)
5. Langston (Fishburne)
I'd rank 'em:
1. Grissom
2. Keppler (Liev Schreiber's short guest stint)
3. D.B. (Danson)
5. Langston (Fishburne)

From Marg Helgenberger's Twitter feed.
Look who's back on the set of CSI
The finale is written by creator Anthony Zuiker. Glad they are wrapping it up with the man who created the show.

so apparently petersen isn't much of a smiler
in that group shot he seems pissed to be there
the other two I can tell he thinks he's smiling, I sometimes am the same way, inside I'm smiling but it doesn't show on the picture

I like to believe that it just doesn't show it since Petersen wouldn't be there if he wasn't happy with the idea of coming back to the show.

I'm sure he's happy being there. It's a 2-hour movie, not a ton of commitment, get to see old friends and (I'm sure) he's getting paid sufficiently.

I sort of wish NBC would have given the same treatment to Law & Order and closed it out with a movie or mini-series or something rather than just outright cancelling it. I suppose that CSI had more of a regular cast to a degree though and people were more invested in their personal stories rather than just the stories of each episode.

The Fishburne episodes just don't work. Just a terrible casting choice. The rest of the cast seemed off given they had to include his character and were struggling to do so.
The Danson episodes fare far better, but they all would be far better if Elizabeth Shue didn't come along for the ride. Her character has always rubbed me the wrong way.
JMHO, but they should have needed the series when Peterson didn't want to be on screen anymore. The show really leaned on his ability to pull off Gil Grissom. I didn't even enjoy the seasons without Warrick Brown as much as the others. He too was vital to the show being on the top of it's game.

I think the Fishburne episodes that were him hunting his nemesis were fantastic, but it felt like a different show. Also, he never fully committed to the show so the writers couldn't ever plan a proper season finale.
As for Peterson, I wonder how much this 2 hour finale hinged on him returning. Seems like CBS could have easily just quietly canceled it after last season.

I agree those were the better episodes and that it felt like a different show. The fault of those episodes is that the rest of the cast doesn't seem to fit.
