I think Season 6 is a hell of a lot better than the current season. Yeah, its twist on the "killers" was predicted by many people and it would've been better if it had be a real surprise (I bet people who didn't see the twist coming think it was a great season). But Season 6 had a serial killer who killed very creatively (only the 1st season can match it for that), had a great last scene in the finale, and the show generally kept my interest for that whole season, unlike this year.

Season Eight almost seems like they switched showrunners and/or writing staff halfway through.
WTF is the point of Masuka's daughter?

Anyway, now that the series is close to ending, I'd like to point out how horribly they've written the supporting characters on this show. Batista, Masuka and Quinn don't seem that different than when we've first met them. Of course, one of the main problems is that they just love to put those characters into relationships as a way of giving them screen time.

Quinn has flip flopped so many times from crooked cop to good cop it is mind numbing. What's the point of the Jamie relationship other than to give her more screen time? It all meant nothing in the end anyway. Remember the stripper from last year? It's just pointless filler. It's really cool how Deb is cool with Hannah now after she tried to kill her last season and just drugged her what has to be less than 2 weeks ago in the show's timeline. Then one second she's bitching at Dexter how he could leave Harrison with her and then the next when the marshall comes she tells Harrison to go inside the house with Hannah.

The show obviously has had issues with pointless characters/storylines for seasons now. It's like the writers are just terrible with time-management. Whether they needed fillers because they couldn't fill out 50 minutes x 13 episodes, or they originally wanted to do something with the characters/storylines - but then realized they didn't calculate the time well enough and had to just let things die.
As was already mentioned, the black female cop who got promoted and then disappeared was pretty pointless. It seems her whole reason for existing is to be Quinn's competition for the promotion - which really meant nothing to the show anyway. They could've just had Quinn competing against "John Smith" - who was a fellow cop we never saw and it wouldn't have made any difference. I can't even remember the black female cops name - THAT is how irrelevant she was.

Plus Quinn considered her his friend. So they were going for a friendly rivalry but even that element was pointless. They could have played things a bit differently and had Anderson still be around as an actual skilled detective, but he had to end up as cannon fodder last season.
Oh and let's not forget that Vogel was brought in to ASSIST THE POLICE with the brain surgeon case, but she never did shit after the first episode to help Miami Metro. That would be like hiring Lundy in season 2 and devoting the rest of his time on the show to having sex with Deb.
