Since this show started, I always thought the last season of the show would be about Dexter finally getting exposed and his run from the law, it's so disappointing how things have turned out.

Pretty much. This season essentially has just amounted to nothing and is like the writers are just going through the motions and riding it out until it's over. There was so much stuff that they could have built off of from last season and plus the stuff they started this season but it's like the writers just said "fuck it, it's the last season we don't care anymore." It sucks because before this season I would have said this is one of my favorite series but now I dunno. I still like the show's earlier seasons but this last season has left a really bad taste.

I think that would have worked for season 5 but would be laughable for season 8. He's managed to avoid capture so many times in so many ridiculous ways. At this point, that is the last ending I would want to see for season 8.

Keep in mind, An-hel has/had all the evidence La Guerta had against Dex & Deb, and decides to not look at it just because.
He probabky lost La Pasion for being a detective.

It's so crazy to think about all the wasted plotlines this season. Remember when Deb was a druggie? When she blacked out and killed someone? How she tried to kill Dexter? How all of this was forgotten within a couple of episodes? Remember how earlier in the season Dexter said he couldn't live without Deb when she tried to get away from him, but now he told her to go screw herself because he has Hannah and is going to Argentina? Remember Quinn trying to become Sergeant only for the black detective to get it instead and then disappear totally from the show? Remember how Batista wanted to come back to the police force to catch Laguerta's killer? Does anything that happens this season matter?

He thought her theory was nonsense so it sort of makes sense that he wouldn't look at the evidence.

Still though if someone accused a person of being a serial killer in real life and a few weeks later they conveniently wind up dead you'd think that a good detective would at least give the accused person a second look.

Its even more absurd when you remember that Doakes was investigating Dexter, and Doakes ended up dead. LaGuerta always believed Doakes was framed, and then when she starts investigating Dexter she ends up dead too.
Two people who were investigating Dexter both end up dead, and the police just think this is a coincidence?
Then there is also Dexter's wife Rita, who the police know was killed by the Trinity serial killer. Alone it does seem like Rita could have been a random victim, but when placed along with those other two clues it doesn't seem so random.
Speaking of Rita, I wonder if we will see Astor and Cody again before the series ends?

True in most cases but not if your judgement is clouded by friendship.

And heck, there was a scene where LaGuerta took her evidence to Captain Matthews. Matthews said it was very flimsy, but it was enough that he let her quietly investigate Dexter. So at least Matthews should be able to put two and two together with both Doakes and LaGuerta and realize that there is more than meets the eye going on with their deaths.

Yeah, watching the week's episode of Dexter before watching that week's Breaking Bad is almost essential. Because watching them the other way around, it would be near impossible to pay attention to what is happening with Dexter in the after-effects of seeing what happened with Walter White/Heisenberg this week.

If I were ranking them I'd go:
1) Season Four
2) Season One
3) Season Two
4) Season Seven
5) Season Three
6) Season Five
7) Season Six
8) Season Eight

I never got that whole thing about Deb shooting the guy in the car. Didn't he take her gun after beating her up?
Blaster1 nails it though with all the dropped narratives on this show. It's been a mess for years. The season with Lumen was the last one I actually cared at all what happened.

In the end this will go down as a show that just held on for too long. It happens so much these days and it sucks. Makes you really appreciate what AMC is doing with Breaking Bad by letting them tell their story and not forcing them to drag it out. It sucks because Dexter is a great, interesting character but the writers just couldn't keep him interesting for 8 seasons.
Season Five should have been the last season. The story would have to change of course. Maybe Dexter doesn't get Trinity at the end of season 4 and they make him the big bad for season 5 too. Dexter's obsession with getting Trinity leads to his ultimate demise.

I actually think Season Six is worse than Eight. I think we hate it so much because this is the last season and we expected so much more. Which is fair but I still think season 6 was worse. Absolutely the worst the villain with the most predictable twist. There was nothing good about the season until the very end where Deb finds Dexter. At least this season had a few good episodes early and a pretty good villain.
S7 was ok simply because Deb finds out Dexter's a serial killer (even though it looked like they may have passed it off the killing as a one-off, which would've pissed me off). It was good in that we had to see Deb deal with it and then the season ended on a very dark note - which felt right.
S8 started off decent as it was going dark with Deb's character. She hates Dexter and her morals were messed up, plus someone else knew about Harry's code. Based on that and the fact it was the last season, I had much hope for it. Then as mentioned earlier, they threw in these stupid plotlines, they did stuff and just swept them under the rug, etc. Deb turned back way too quickly and it just became another poorly written season of Dexter that didn't feel like it was the final season.

The worst aspects of season six to me were the villain and the twist being predictable and Deb confessing her love to Dexter. That actually in my opinion is the worst thing that the show has ever done and was beyond stupid. Glad that storyline basically got dropped.
