Yeah it really sucks. I mean up to this point I've enjoyed most of the seasons. Season six to me was always sort of the weakest one but then I thought the show had made up for it with the finale where Deb caught Dexter and season seven being overall pretty good and seeming like it was building to a grand finale for the series to go out on.

Instead this year though I just don't know what the fuck happened. It almost seems like last season they were setting it up so the viewers would start to turn on Dexter a little more by making his character a bit darker and doing things that only benefited him but instead this season they wussed out and instead gave us what we're getting now. The fact that the LaGuerta storyline amounted to basically nothing and having little impact for Dexter or Deb this year is a major disappointment. Sure we saw Deb affected by her actions for the first half of the season or so but realistically it was written off way too easily.

If I were able to change anything about this series I would just say that this season should just be scrapped and forgotten about and have it come back for a true final season because honestly what Scott Buck and company have given us this season just is shit for fans of the show. If this were any other season it would have been somewhat more passable but the fact that it is the final just makes this a major disappointment. :(

Maybe Showtime is punking us and this season will end with a big cliffhanger that leads us into the real final season. I guess I can dream...

Well, I've read the spoilers...all I'll say is that if true, this season/series ends on a completely illogical/disappointing note. UGH.

This season really has been all over the place. I mean, only a few episodes ago, Deb wanted nothing to do with Dexter, now she is horribly broken up about him leaving. I mean I get there was some reconciliation there in between, but the point is from a plotting standpoint there is no direction. I'm not even sure what the main arc was this season.

The GIFS posted in this thread were more entertaining than the Dexter episode that aired.

Also, I have to wonder how Dexter is going to support his son and Hannah in Argentina since he isn't exactly a rich man.

Who cares? He will have *deep inhale* Hannah *release breath*. Sorry, just trying to perfect my Dexter impersonation.

Hannah will provide. Isn't she currently (if not publically) a fabulously wealthy widow?

Watched this last night and want it to end next week:

Feels so rushed - Just send Hanna out of town for a while. Jump on your boat and go up the coast to Georga and then fly out from there (or jump in the car and take a road trip). This false sense of urgency is a joke.

If I was Deb, I would turn in Dexter!! - Deb killed her boss to cover for her brother, went off the deep end because of it, tried to kill Dexter and herself, went to therapy, got better - because Dexter wanted her back in his life... and 2 weeks later Dexter says 'smell you later,' I don't need you any more in my life because I'm moving to Argentina with my X and by the way - I'm taking my son to live in a foreign country with a fugitive, and 2 serial killers. -ohbfrank-

Oh yeah, the fact that she tried to kill her brother. Apparently the police don't care when their own car (signed out to Dexter) plunges into a lake and a bystander saves the driver.

Wasn't she in therapy for the club shooting 2 seasons ago, (a pretty minor thing compared to this)? You'd fucking think that she'd be in therapy for something like that but nope, situation normal.

Argentina isn't some wasteland. He could get a job.

Right? The car crash thing and how it was completely glazed over other than Dexter and Deb discussing it with Vogel was retarded.

A couple of years ago I said this was show had Network quality writing (NBC/CBS drama) with a premium budget. Now that sounds like high praise if it were applied to this season.

I've thought that for a long time. Take out a lot of the language and cut out the very occasional nudity and it's no different from something like CSI.

Yeah it was never the best written show or anything let's be honest but the show was always at least pretty entertaining. This season like I've said I just really don't know what happened. The writers really just seemed to have dropped the ball big time and just seem like they don't even care.

I was a big fan of the show but it will not end well as a viewer. But that is ok. Going to watch it to it's end.

I am one of the select people that chooses to watch this off the dvr first and then Boardwalk. BB comes last because you should save the best for last.

Dexter is comical at this point but we have followed this long. Might as well see the end (i.e. Lost)

See but I wasn't really one of those people before this season saying it's bad and hard to watch and was just watching it to see the end. There have been rocky moments throughout the course of the series I'll admit but I've liked most of the show despite not being perfect. That's why I find this season so strange, the seventh season was overall pretty strong and people mostly liked it and we all thought it was building up to some big final season but it's like the show just tossed those ideas out the window. It's just weird.

I'm pretty much in agreement with this post. The producers seemed to promise an intense season, -it certainly started with some intensity with Deb's gritty downward spiral, and her anger at Dexter and even Jennifer Carpenter saying that the only end for "Deb" in her eyes was to kill the character, -but then it seems to have lightened up (in the sense a series with this subject matter can "lighten up") and the pace has become pretty much laid back. I can forgive some of the plotting but I don't understand the lack of urgency or why we're wasting so much time with "going nowhere" plotlines like Matsuda and his daughter. Perhaps they got distracted and saw an opportunity to build toward a spin-off they keep saying isn't going to happen (and would probably fail). Now it appears the last two episodes are going to throw in this left-field storm to tie everything together and I can't help being disappointed that it isn't something that we've built toward the whole season.

I agree with you both (mike and wilson). It is what it is though. Let's just get some closure and see who lives or dies. I doubt anyone (dex) goes to prison.

Did anyone say goodbye to Miami in the "Goodbye Miami" episode? Vogel is the only one I can think of.

Pretty sure the episode title is referring to Dexter getting ready to move by informing Batista of his resignation, talking about selling his boat, selling his apartment, etc.

It's so crazy to think about all the wasted plotlines this season. Remember when Deb was a druggie? When she blacked out and killed someone? How she tried to kill Dexter? How all of this was forgotten within a couple of episodes? Remember how earlier in the season Dexter said he couldn't live without Deb when she tried to get away from him, but now he told her to go screw herself because he has Hannah and is going to Argentina? Remember Quinn trying to become Sergeant only for the black detective to get it instead and then disappear totally from the show? Remember how Batista wanted to come back to the police force to catch Laguerta's killer? Does anything that happens this season matter?

Pretty much. This season essentially has just amounted to nothing and is like the writers are just going through the motions and riding it out until it's over. There was so much stuff that they could have built off of from last season and plus the stuff they started this season but it's like the writers just said "fuck it, it's the last season we don't care anymore." It sucks because before this season I would have said this is one of my favorite series but now I dunno. I still like the show's earlier seasons but this last season has left a really bad taste.

Re: Dexter -- "Goodbye Miami" -- 9/08/13

I am cracking up at your points Blaster, I agree. So many things happen that are forgotten. This show has always gone by the tenet: "If something happened more than three episodes ago, don't ever bring it up again."

And again, HOLY FUCK. They COMPLETELY don't give a SHIT about Deb and Dexter's mother. She LIVED LONGER than Harry. She was their MOTHER. Yet every single thing tied to their childhood is related exclusively to Harry. It's pretty idiotic, and is the height of laziness to just toss her aside.

Yeah, this season is a royal clusterfuck.

No matter which previous season you hated most, this one makes it look like a fucking masterpiece.
