Judy Davis drops out of 24 due to personal reasons. Role will be recast.

re: 24: Live Another Day - 5/5/14

EXCLUSIVE: A meaty villainous role on Fox‘s event series 24: Live Another Day unexpectedly became vacant after Judy Davis had to pull out. Davis was slated to leave her native Australia for London, where Live Another Day had been filming since January 26, but I’ve learned that personal family matters are preventing her from traveling at this time. As a result, the two-time Emmy winner had to pull out a couple of weeks before the recurring role was scheduled to begin filming. The producers are expected to find a replacement quickly with no impact on production. The character, Margot, is a British national and the widow of a notorious terrorist. 24: Live Another Day, which will premiere on May 5, is a big priority for Fox, which showcased the project in a series of promos during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

I hope they get another high-profile actress for the role. Lord knows there are plenty of British actresses to choose from. I wonder what the time commitment will be. Two or three months?
I wouldn't be surprised if they grab someone who's doing a play on the West End and work around their performance schedule.

It's a recurring role, so she wouldn't have to work as much as Kiefer or Mary Lynn. I think any English actress who would kill at a chance to work on 24.

Interesting that they actually cast an Aussie actress to play a British character.

What dissuaded you from watching in the 1st place? The show lasted 8 seasons. It was one of Fox's most successful dramas in the last decade. It was really the pioneer for serial dramas.

...and it ALMOST got cancelled after Season 1. I don't know if people remember what an 'on the bubble' show it was. Releasing the DVDs over the summer was a brilliant move on FOX's part - it saved the series and made it a hit.

Premieres in exactly 4 months. That's plenty of time to watch 192 episodes and 24 Redemption to get caught up in time. It's on Netflix after all.

Jack Bauer is one of the most iconic TV action heroes. It's worth the time.

4 Months is plenty of time. Watch 3-4 episodes a day. I think I'm only going to rewatch Redemption - Day 8.

Maybe I am wrong but Fox seems to interject their (executives) opinions of a show into it's success and how it is handled more than the other networks.

You are right, they did not like 24 and it was very surprising when it was renewed.

They didn't like Firefly and screwed with it so much then cancelled it, when there is ZERO doubt if handled properly it would have found its audience.

The currently hate Almost Human which is in Firefly mode, being shown completely out of order, missing episodes and likely to be cancelled despite being surprisingly decent.

Hannibal would not have made it to episode 3 on Fox. Neither would have Breaking Bad. If you ever make a series and HBO turns you down don't go to Fox

d2cheer, you can even save yourself some time. Skip seasons 4 & 6. Or if you're tempted by 6, just watch the first 4 episodes and know that in the end Jack saves the day.

They were also going to have the show be an anthology series. Each season would be "One day in the life of..."

Season Two would've been an adaptation of Dan Brown's Angels and Demons book.

re: 24: Live Another Day - 5/5/14

FOX is just an odd animal altogether. The only reason we're getting a return to TV is because FOX's movie division insulted Sutherland, Howard Gordon, and Co. by offering them a measly $30 million for a feature film (and only a $1 million paycheck for Sutherland).

I talked to THE X-FILES Frank Spotnitz once about why FOX never tried to bring that show back on the air in some way, shape or form, and he told me the people in charge there believe once a show is done, it's done, no matter how big the fan base is or the demand is to bring something back. By the way, the last X-Files movie was made for - you guessed it - $30 million dollars. It wouldn't have been made if Chris Carter had insisted on a bigger budget.

So 24 joins Family Guy as one of those rare ducks - a cancelled series that FOX actually is bringing back. Although they DID do this with ALIEN NATION back when FOX was young (and probably run by different people).

I know some people like you dislike season 4, but there were a lot of important elements in it.

We are introduced to William Devane's character Jim Heller. He's kind of important in Live Another Day.

Curtis Manning is introduced as well. He was very important in season 5 & some of season 6.

Also Audrey is introduced as Jack's love interest and she was a central character in season 5.

Also, most importantly, Greg Itzin (Logan) was introduced in season 4. As you all know, he is one of the most important characters in 24 until the end of the series.

I would not skip season 4 for those who haven't seen 24. If there is any season that is expendable it's 6.

All very true, but also all that can be summed up in a post like yours.

I know most of the posters here are fucking lazy, but don't encourage the fucking lazy ass Wikipedia attitude. Show's like 24 need to be appreciated even in good and bad by experiencing it.

Seriously, those characters had a lot of development from the time they were introduced and IMO you kind of need to see that for this show.

I've seen every episode of the show, but this recent talk has me thinking about attempting a marathon prior to May. I think I've seen the first season 3 times. And I might be off, but I feel like I viewed seasons 2-5 a second time just prior to season 6 being released on DVD. The last few seasons I've only seen once.

Will this new season help spur an eventual release of the whole series on blu?

The only season that really could be considered horrible is Season 6 (after the first four episodes). Season 3 is weak early but finishes strong. Season 4 is pretty solid, surprised anyone would suggest skipping it. 7 was pretty solid, while 8 was weak, but turned it around late.

1 and 5 are the best. 2 is also very good, but it also comes up with some very silly subplots for Kim Bauer. As long as you approach her story as unintended comic relief, you'll have a blast with it.

Season 1 actually plays 'slow' compared to later seasons...they really went out of their way early on to emphasize that 'real time' aspect.

Thanks; I will check it out. For some reason this one just got away from me (like Breaking Bad I am currently fixing that). That is what Netflix is for!!

S4 is worth it for the Mother-Son Muslim story line alone. I think the Woman that played her won an Emmy or Golden Globe for the role.

That's right. Season 4 had the scene were Jack went to the sporting goods store ran by some Muslim men and they said something like "We'll help you fight, this is our country." I remember them putting that scene in because of complaints from the Muslim community about the series.
