24: Live Another Day - 5/5/14
http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/24-e...land-in-talks/
The clock may start ticking again on Fox. I’ve learned that the network is looking to bring back its signature real-time drama 24 as a limited series. Kiefer Sutherland is in talks to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Agent Jack Bauer. No deals are in place, but Fox is eying 24 as part of its recent push in limited event series. Since 24 ended its eight-season run on Fox in 2010, there have been efforts to continue the story as a feature, which ultimately didn’t take off. I hear the idea to do another 24 chapter on TV came from longtime 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, now executive producer on Showtime’s Homeland. I hear he pitched the plan, which would start from scratch with a new story arc, to 24 producers 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV as well as Fox, which all jumped on board. Gordon will likely executive produce through his 20th TV-based company Teakwood Lane. In addition to Homeland, Gordon executive produces the newly picked up TNT series Legends and high-profile FX pilot Tyrant, which is being directed by Ang Lee.
With Touch dead, I'm sure Kiefer can't wait to get back to Jack Bauer again.
The movie sounds like it's never going to happen. I'll take a miniseries.

Sadly I think Kim Bauer will probably be available as well.
As long as Kiefer is involved of course I'm in. If he's not, then forget it.

So we don't get a movie, but we get this. I can probably live with this.

24 would work very well in a condensed form. Hell, I'd even ditch the real time aspect of it.
But after watching Touch basically turn into 24 with a kid, I think giving us the real thing is a great idea.

It sounds like FOX wants to do it and Howard Gordon pitched it, so he obviously wants to do it.
I guess the key is how much they are willing to pay Kiefer. Since the cheap bastards on the film side didn't want to pay him, we can only hope the TV side of FOX appreciates him enough to pay him.

Why are you guys considering a miniseries some type of consolation prize in the absence of a movie? With a movie, we probably get 2 hours or less of Jack Bauer goodness. A miniseries would probably give us 6 hours or more. Whether it's a BBC-length season (around 6 episodes) or a HBO-sized season (10-13 episodes), I'd much rather have that than a movie.

24 was the kind of show that could have kept going anyway, along with Entourage. People would still watch and believe the situations.

They must not have much faith in the current crop of pilots they just picked up,

That plus the downward trend of American Idol and X-Factor. If they cut either of them down or cancel them there could be a lot of time to fill on the FOX schedule, possibly even in the 2014-2015 season.

Oh hell yea! I'll take a miniseries over a movie. It just means more hours of entertainment for me.
24 is my favorite franchise. Plus, I need more 24 crap to purchase...haha

If it's a miniseries, will it be called "8"?
Or a limited series called "13?"

Here's what I would do:
Hire Jon Cassar and Brad Turner to direct. They directed most of the episodes in the series.
Hire David Fury and Manny Coto to write the scripts with Gordon. Both are available and worked on the show. Dexter is ending, so Coto will be free soon and Fury worked on the final season of Fringe and is now free. I know another member of their writing staff Evan Katz is now on Body of Proof and if that's renewed, he's definitely out.
I think Gordon will definitely hire people who worked on the show in the past since they know the characters.

Please, do this, yes. More 24.
And set it in space. Don't explain it. Just... Space nukes.

Okay this is promising, sounds like David Fury is indeed involved. From Fury's Twitter:

David Fury just posted on Twitter that it will be 12 episodes.
