"The Bible" on History

For everyone sick of the endless 'Pawn Stars' and 'American Pickers' reruns, this series and "The Vikings" should make you happy.

It's a 10 hour, five-part series on the major events. This production must be British given its cast, but it has the unmistakable baritone of Keith David as the narrator. Some of the FX are cheesy while others aren't bad.

So who is watching?

(Obligatory: Counting Cars S2 is coming back and History just announced on Facebook that Lisa Kelly is back with IRT)

Count me in.

I will watch the 1st one and see how the production is.

This will be one of the few that I can say "I have read the book".

Re: "The Bible" on History

i was watching to check out the special effects. now i wanted to see how the 2 cities get destroyed. now as i'm watching the scene that leads up to that it made me dust off me good ol' bible and look something up. the men of sodom wanted to have sex with the 2 angels and that's how it is written in the bible. in this episode they are being chased to get beat up. there is no mention of the men of sodom being homosexual in the episode.

Yes, in the Bible, the men of Sodom want to rape the angels. As if that's not bad enough, Moses offers his daughters to them in exchange.

I'm not a bit surprised History decided to fudge the text the way they did, to just make it seem like the men of Sodom wanted to beat up the angels. The original text is not very PC at all and History would've faced a huge backlash if they'd filmed it as written.

FTFY
It was Lot not Moses. And, yeah we can't go upsetting the Gheys like that.

Re: "The Bible" on History

It seemed to take a lot of cues from The Passion Of the Christ for its set design. The acting was more emotional than the older Bible epics, half of the actors delivered lines with pained expressions on their faces all of the time.

But it was a decent start and it will be interesting to see how they cover the New Testament.

Yes, the narrator does, as does Lot and the men of Sodom. Not that any of this matters...

So if they're not even willing to include the men of Sodom wanting to rape the angels and Lot offering his daughters to the men instead, I guess they're also not going to include Lot's daughters getting him drunk and having sex with him while they were hiding in a cave.

14.8M viewers watched last night counting the re-air. Crazy numbers.

Was this good? Wasn't planning on watching since I'm not really into religion or religious themed programming.

Re: "The Bible" on History

I loved how the Angels revealed themselves dropping the cloaks and showing the armor, the ass kicking scene was a different story I had a good laugh about that.

I will continue to watch.

Had this on DVR but too many spoilers in this thread, I'm out. I can't wait to find out if Lot's wife looked back.

And so it was written...

Im blah towards the first episode. I will wait for second or third episode before I come to my conclusion.

I read somewhere that a reviewer mention the special effects werent that great and that the old Charlton Heston version special effect was way better. So, far I have to agree.

Re: "The Bible" on History

I caught the segment with Moses. TBH the acting was cheesy and very ham fisted, but the parting of the Red Sea was way cool.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to feel the need to post this. Now that that's over with...

Must be pretty big news, the Today show had a segment on The Bible ratings.

Re: "The Bible" on History

It came in 1st overall on Sunday beating everything else on TV in total viewers. The Walking Dead had about 3m fewer viewers but a much higher 18 - 49 rating which is the money spot. (something like 14.5m viewers (Jesus) vs. 11.5m viewers (Zombie Jesus))

In general though, up until Duck Dynasty and The Walking Dead started beating them regularly, it was always news when a cable show beat the broadcast networks (The Sopranos made news for that). Now it's every week.

I always think of it as a statue. Shouldn't a pillar hold something up?

The question for me is if this show did so well then why didn't religion programming do so well when they had an entire network with PAX/ION that's now airing secular programming?

Something seems off...it's not like Christians haven't had access to TV for years.
