There's one piece of ACTUAL history in this show and the History Channel gets it wrong!?!?! That's pretty funny. Hey, maybe they were Greeks?

King Solomon never made an appearance. They've made some curious choices as to which stories to tell and which to skip over. Anything that involved violence or had a city getting raided was the primary criteria for inclusion.

King Solomon got left out? Solomon and Job are the two most interesting characters in either testament, and probably the Qu'ran as well.

Attention to detail is hardly the "history" channel's strong point. Try watching anything where a railroad is featured.

I think you may be forgetting Jesus.

^ The guy is obnoxious as hell but somehow I think that is probably more tolerable than the actual series.

So did the series really gloss over that one of David's sons raped his own sister and killed his brother (or was he killed by his brother in retaliation for the sister's rape)? Or are they saving that gem for the next few episodes?

I will admit, his comments and critiques were funny. It's the personality that irks me.

But I loved his comments on Samson.

The series is currently covering the New Testament, so anything involving King David has already been shown.

They focused on the battle with Goliath, his relationship with King Saul & Jonathon, killing his best friend so he could steal his wife, and God taking his child as punishment.

History is just airing the special. It was entirely Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's baby. You got a beef, hate on them.

Re: "The Bible" on History

I was flipping channels today and I came upon the "history" channel. They were showing "The Bible". I happened to tune in at the point where the angels visited Abram (later Abraham) and told him his old wife, Sarah, would have a baby. Then they said they were going to Sodom to destroy it, and Abram convinced them to spare the city if they could find one good man - Abram was thinking of his kin, Lot.

So fast forward to Sodom. The angels meet Lot, and the city is a cesspool, with lots of sex and raping and killing and all kinds of bad shit. Lot takes the angels into his home and says he will protect them. Someone noticed the arrival of his visitors, however, because in short order there's a crowd at his door yelling for the new arrival. [Note: in the Bible, the crowd wants to "know" them, i.e., rape them, but that's glossed over here.] In this teleplay, Lot holds his door closed, and then runs out and says the crowd can't have them, they're guests in his house. Then the angels shed their cloaks, show their armor and swords, and bring out some whoop-ass on the crowd. One of the angels is Asian (I'm not shitting you) and he goes all kung fu on their asses.

They completely skip over the part where Lot offers his virgin daughters to the crowd to appease them (and they refuse - I guess man ass was more appealing to them). It seems the producers don't want to portray what actually is depicted in their Good Book.

Wait, what? He didn't even know Bathsheba's husband. Bathsheba was just some random chick David saw taking a bath (hence her name, I guess). Did they really make her husband David's best friend in the series?

I don't know if "best friends" was accurate. In the show, Uriah was kinda portrayed as David's right hand man.

Re: "The Bible" on History

Why they chose to change up the stories from the way they were presented in the Biblical text is stupid. Most of the stories are way more interesting as originally written.

No. Remember, "Bathsheba" is a translation from the original Hebrew, and her name means "Daughter of the oath". The word "bath" in Hebrew has nothing to do with her name (which is really better Anglicized as "Bat Sheva")

I know all that. I was just kidding. Of course now I wanna read an Elseworlds comic where she's revealed to be an ancestor of Bruce Wayne.

Re: "The Bible" on History

Now they are going to recut the series and release it as a movie.

Now Burnett has announced that he is seeking to continue the bounty—and maybe win a few more converts—by re-editing the section of the show about the life of Jesus Christ (chiefly, episodes 5 through 10) into a three-hour film to be released in theaters. “[We have] many, many offers from theaters, globally,” Burnett recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

Burnett and his producers have always made it clear that they planned to further monetize their evangelical show:

They are publishing a number of spin-off books, as well as study guides, in multiple languages; the DVD is already the fastest-selling-ever DVD for a miniseries.

They’ve also got a CD soundtrack, as well as a CD of music “inspired” by the series.

The producer has even noted that he’s considering doing a follow-up with more Bible stories. “I do have scripts in my bag that I just received today for what’s next,” he said in that same THR interview.
