Why hasn't Rick mentioned going to Wal-Mart for supplies? Surely as a person who buys things he knows where the local Wal-Mart is. They even sell guns in some of them. Now they will stumble on Wal-Mart by accident and he won't even say that he knew it existed. This show is not very believable. In a real zombie apocalypse Rick would have stopped at Wal-Mart just like everyone and his brother thinks to do.

Honestly though prison is the last place I'd want to live. I'd have to be pretty desperate to voluntary live in a cold, gray prison for life.

How do you know Rick and his crew haven't done so already OR visited a Wal-Mart (or any other store) and saw that it was already looted?

Do you really need to have Rick narrate everything he has done in the last year? This isn't a fucking documentary.

When the dead do rise seeking the flesh of the living, ten minutes after the first zombie kills someone every Wal-Mart in the country will be empty.

I think we should thank you, for inspiring him to post. Unless he turns out to be a crappy poster. In which case, burn in hell, Big Boy Laroux!

Have you ever seen a majority of the folks who shop at a place like Walmart, or Target, even? A place like that could turn in a matter of seconds, and if it was on a Saturday afternoon when it hit, that place would be so full of walkers there's no way anyone would get in or out of there.

That'd be pretty cool, though, right? If TWD was filmed like it was The Office? Who would be the audience, though? That's why Andrea's speech was such bullshit a few episodes ago because, if everywhere is like the US appears to be, then there's not ever going to be any more civilization or history classes. Ever.

I usually pick mine up when I go to the grocery store because I don't feel like making two trips.

Exactly. Don't look for guns at the local Wal-Mart especially a year+ into this thing. Don't look for food in a supermarket. You need to think outside the box, which Rick was trying to do in this episode. The low hanging fruit aka Wal-Mart is long gone by now.

I was under the impression that they traveled way further away. I guess I was wrong.

Taking a 4 or 5 hour drive seems a big risk and gas never seems to be a problem. I love the show and this episode overall was very good but it feels like there are many "logical" problems. If you can call them "logical" in a show about a Zombie Apocalypse.

Wait a minute. Did people think I was being serious about the Wal-Mart thing? I was mocking the "Rick would obviously know about the prison and suggest it" people, for the record. The internet has no sense of fun anymore.

We could nitpick all day. Technically any gasoline their siphoning off other cars shouldn't be working anymore. Gas has a shelf life and they're pretty well past it now. That makes for a less fun show though. I'd like to see them making some bio-diesel. Now that would be gripping TV! ;)

Walmart and Target, of course. Which is how I know that a place like that would fall VERY quickly.

Oops. Sorry.

Still, though, there are sporting good stores and pawn shops all over Atlanta and Georgia. Everything fell in a couple of weeks, right? So there might be some reserves in some places. The problem, though, is they don't have the luxury of safety or time when looking for supplies.

I didn't think you were at first, but people started to run with it, so I had to get my 2 cents in.

As mentioned though, a place like WM would be overrun with walkers like the prison. Quite possibly even more difficult to clear out than the prison*, leading to the possibility that the shelves are still stocked(food or supplies).

Worth a look at any rate.

*then again, 80% of the walkers in any given WM are probably morbidly obese and easy to fend off/get away from. :)

Re: The Walking Dead - "Clear" -- 03/03/2013

It wasn't a bad idea to go back to his hometown. He knew of a locked-down place that still had an arsenal (or so he thought). It's different than wasting time sorting through each and every wal-mart or pawn shop for an occasional gun.

I agree that the Rand McNally in me (agree, great post earlier) doesn't think the distance to home makes the trip worth while based on the result - but he was targeting a butt-load of guns that he thought only he had access to. If all the guns had been there, that easily makes the trip more worthwhile.

But that then opens up the debate - why in the hell didn't he go before now? Well, because Lennie James wasn't available. :)

Sometimes it's hard to tell. People have been beating the prison thing to death for weeks.
