You could try watching the 2 1/2 minute promo and doing a google search for starters.
Looks like the version posted on Youtube and Showtime on demand is the full uncut version.
I'm leaning towards waiting until May 11th to watch the premiere. For those here who don't subscribe to Showtime, they might be more inclined to watch it now.

Re: Showtime greenlights new horror series "Penny Dreadful" from the makers of Skyfal
I watched the first episode tonight and liked it a lot. It's impossible not to see it as a knockoff of LOEG. With each character I was reminded of either Mina, Quatermain, or Dr. Jekyll but it's above and beyond that execrable movie adaption that any lack of credit to Alan Moore can be forgiven. I doubt it will have his sense of humor in the series but it would be nice. I really like the cast of Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, and Josh Hartnett. It's a great looking show. Looking forward to the next episode to see how it develops.

I watched the first episode and I liked it and will continue to watch. It felt kind of like Supernatural meets League of Extraordinary Gentleman. I like the actors and the show looks great even rather expensive actually. But yeah I'm in.

How League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (comic, or "LXG" movie) -like is it..? I assume it's considerably different in content, but the broad premise seemed familiar the first couple of times I read about it..

Stayed up super late to watch this. I liked it. Very cinematic feel.
Definitely has an LXG vibe with the monsters added into the mix. I really liked Timothy Dalton and Eva Green in this. Love her eyes. So evil, yet hot.
The Frankenstein introduction at the end was kind of cool.
John Logan said in the behind the scenes feature that there is no CGI on this show. Thought the monster/vampire attack scene was pretty well done.
I'm game for this one. Not sure if I want to jump in to episode 2 right away. Going to pace myself since it's only an 8 episode season.

I had watched the pilot the other day on youtube and I watched my DVR recording this morning. I paid more attention the second time watching the pilot and I like it so far. The only thing I wonder how the storylines will progress in future seasons.

We really enjoyed the Pilot but we don't have Showtime so not sure we'll be able to follow the show.

Just watched my recording of the pilot and I'm in for sure. As one mentioned it seems to have that "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" flavor but more darker. Eva Green is perfectly cast for something like and just a perfect fit. I had doubts with Timothy Dalton but not after watching the first one.

It wasn't perfect especially the first encounter/fight in the opium den; I had huge problems with that...but I liked it enough to keep up with it now that most of the network shows are winding down.

I kind of like that there is no CGI - it has that Werewolf in London grit to it. Plus sometimes CGI makes things unbelievable.
So I guess this is getting the True Detective treatment. I hope this is just like a long 8hr movie broken up into 1hr segments.
I'll wait until there are a few more episodes on demand before I start with episode #2
