Man, this show is another Flashforward/Terra Nova/Alcatraz crap fest. A show trying to get the Lost audience.

The only compelling thing about this show so far is Giancarlo Esposito. Everything else just ranges from serviceable to bad.
I read an article shortly after the premier suggesting that Esposito's character might be based on Obama. Not the actual person, but the caricature the rightwing paints of him. I thought it was a bit of a stretch initially, but after this episode with the well-spoken black man whose cool demeanor is hiding a repressed psychopathy and who hates America and wants to take all our guns... yeah, still not seeing it.

That gives the creators of this show WAY too much credit. By the same token, I can imagine the pitch:
It's Jericho meets Hunger Games with a LOST mystery and we're going to throw in a character that's like Obama the way Rush Limbaugh sees him.

The action sequences (ie fights) are pretty good, but the script writing is less than stellar. Not near as good as LOST or other shows mentioned. Sure feels like Terra Nova to me. I'll stick with it for a while, but this has moved in two short weeks from must-see to when-I-get-around-to-it.

Going to guess that something persistent is keeping the power out worldwide and those little medallions provides a small radius where power is allowed to function.
Like others have said, this show feels very Terra Nova-ish in production values and plotting (ugh). Thank goodness there's no little kids, although I'm kinda waiting for the rambunctious kid who's good at surviving and sneaking into places to pop up anytime soon...

I don't buy this gun thing given how many guns there are in the US
the current US government with all it's organisation and might could not take the guns out of the hands of every citizen even if it tried and they are saying that a ragtag band of militia could ? They would literally have to do a 4 hour search in every single property in the USA to get all the guns and even then they wouldn't. There are that many guns out there and it would be so easy to hide. All of those huge ranches with owners with huge gun collections, so many places to hide. I'd love to see them try take the guns from Will and the boys from Red Jacket, lol

Uncle Jason Bourne killed like 2 dozen militia members last episode, half of whom were armed to the teeth, and apparently they didn't bother to take any of those guns with them. Yet they keep reminding us how rare and valuable guns are.
I also didn't see the point of the girl needing to get close to the soldier to shoot him. Why not just shoot him from afar with a bow and arrow and save yourself the hassle? Thats what they ended up doing anyway to the other soldiers after she shot the boss.

The Monroe Republic only covers the area around Chicago. It's not clearly defined what that area is, but it's nowhere near the whole U.S.

Hell most guns aren't legal in Chicago now, not too hard to unarm a mostly unarmed populace. I don't like this plot point either, sure in 15 years ammo would be the bigger rarity. This show has the feel of a NBC whitewashed show. I hope Abrams and Co can correct this, but I have a feeling this will get dumped by me in a few more episodes.

The militia could make it a capital offense, punishment on the spot. Sometimes the gun owners would be wiped out, sometimes the militia squad. Or the militia could invite the guy to join up and keep his gun.

Also, you'd think if that area is mostly unarmed they'd be in serious trouble in the first year or two before some stability sets in.
The show is pretty whitewashed to be sure. We've seen what all of two black people even among the background players?
