Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne

The roast of Roseanne airs tonight at 10 eastern/9 central on Comedy Central.

I thought the Charlie Sheen roast was hilarious.

Does anyone know if the re-air after midnight will be uncensored or do we have to wait a while to get that one?

It seems like CC always waits to air the uncensored version.

Pretty solid so far. Jane Lynch had a few good ones but Amy Schumer is doing great.

I'd never found him all that funny before, but he was fucking hilarious. That bit was awesome.

I hadn't heard of Amy before the Sheen roast. She was so good on that show.

Apparently, enough for the director/producer have her lead off the Roseanne roast. Her tone and how she talks is really good.

Re: Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne

I don't know the background of the Comedy Central roasts. Do the people doing the roasting come up with their own material, or do Comedy Central writers write some, most, or all of the material ?

Re: Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne

It's a mix. Comedy Central has some hired writers that write the entire sets for the non-comedians. They also put out a joke book that anyone is free to use and/or cross off jokes as taken. The comedians mostly write their own material or have their own writers, which usually just means comedian friends they will buy some jokes from. I heard Jesse Joyce talking about the process. He was a writing partner with Greg Giraldo for the roasts he did and was part of the Comedy Central writing staff for the later ones.

Re: Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne

Usually these Roast's are trainwrecks, but this was actually pretty solid throughout. I think what made this funny is that they actually had REAL friends of Roseanne rather then a bunch of strangers ribbing on the roaster all night. Plus there was no Lisa Lampanelli there as she annoys me, and they do they jokes about her everytime.

-Jeff Ross killed, "You're dressed like Yoda's grandmom!" I read on twitter that they cut a Jeff Ross joke about the shootings in Colorado during the Batman movie, any truth to that?

-Jane Lynch was a good host

-And I never thought Gilbert Gottfried was funny as I just don't get his humor. But maybe it's just me?

-After seeing Carrie Fisher, what the hell happened to Princess Leia?

-Anyone think Katy Segal looked hot at her age?

-And of course I miss Greg Giraldo!

Yes they cut Ross' joke that included the shooting but it was about Seth Green. They played it on Howard Stern before it was decided it will be cut.

I thought it was funny.

Re: Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne

I found this on an internet review of the roast:

5. A Controversial Joke Got Cut

Ross’ shock factor didn’t stop with his outfit. The comedian made a joke about the recent Aurora, Colo., shooting that was deemed too controversial to make it into the broadcast.

“Seth, congratulations. This is actually a great night for you,” said Ross to fellow roaster Seth Green. “You haven’t gotten this much attention since you shot all those people in Aurora.”

Green, like alleged shooter James Holmes on July 20 at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, has a full head of red hair.

“I’m kidding,” Ross continued. “You are not like James Holmes. At least he did something in a movie theater that people remember!”

Didn't finish it(made it through Tom Arnold), but Carrie Fisher roasting herself was probably my favorite. I loved that she pointed out how predictable everyone else's jokes work.

Anthony Jeselnik was great as well, but he seemed to have an extremely short bit, did he have a bunch that was cut?

Political correctness sucks. That's some good shit right there.

Enjoyed this a good bit, no single roaster was a complete bust and there were more hits than misses.

Liked Roseanne's comment toward Jane Lynch -- "I'd be skinny too if all I ate was pussy."

Do these ever get released on DVD? I'd love to have a copy of this.

I'm suprised they cut it because it is essentially a roast an anything goes. I mean Jeselnik talked about John Ritter dying right next to his co-star on that show! I cringed at that joke because I was a huge John Ritter fan, but its a roast so you can't be offended at anything.

But as Jeff Ross always says, "Too soon?"

They're also on Netflix.

These are always good. VH1 (or one of those cable networks) did I roast a few years back that wasn't very good. It was really low budget and not very funny. Anyone remember that? I forget who was even being roasted.

It has nothing to do with political correctness. They cut the joke most likely to get national media attention for publicity. It's how these things are done in television.

This was one of the funnier roasts, most of the jokes were sharper and less repetitive than usual. I wonder how much Tom Arnold got for showing up? Ellen Barkin's plastic surgery is melting off by the day. I'm surprised no one joked about it.

Not sure, but I read a review of the roast last night that said that Roseanne knew he was going to show up, so her suprised look wasn't that suprising.

Oh well, thats Hollywood for ya!
