We were yelling out tons of stuff. When I got home we watched the show on DVR. After that magic act did singing in the rain it got quiet and you can hear me yell out "YOU SUCK!"

We got good tickets - we were 5 rows from the stage. Fat ass high pitch, and medicated pete was in the balcony directly to my left. Those 2 clowns were wandering around outside before the event started.

The place is really nice inside, parking was easy to get to, and it was easy to find.

I can only imagine how cool it is to see some of those acts live compared to on TV.

David Garibauldi and the CMYK's were easily my favorite act of the night. I could sit down and watch a whole 90 minute show of that. Good stuff!

Yet another thread that I'm late to the party on (I missed out on all the South Park threads too, grrrr)
but at least I can post here knowing the season is still on so it's ok.

Stern is eh for me. Not a fan, not a hater. I've read his books, seen the movie, that's about it.

Some of these acts will be back as wildcards.

I think the 6 year old "breakdancer" was better than the 6 year old tapdancer.

Big Barry is lame but not Mary Ellen lame.

I really didnt care for David Girabaldi the first couple times around, the last performance, wow!

I had Paint it Black stuck in my head for 2 days.

There are a bunch of videos of him on Youtube. But I'm too lazy to go look em up and post the codes here...

Took me 4 hours to catch up on posts here. And I skipped the Random pictures threads, will have to check those tomorrow.

2 hours for Other, 2 hours for the rest of DVDTalk.

I said it last year, Youtube acts should NOT go auto into the top level. UNFAIR.

And I posted it last year as well, but here is a link to a great blog about AGT.

He's frequently wrong, but still fun to read, and he almost always gives links to the acts' websites

I don't feel the need to watch these live like others so it kills any thread momentum.

First off, they brought a handful of duds to NY. The janitor with homemade instruments? Ugh. Big Barry? Yikes. All Beef Patty? OMG. It definitely makes it easier on the judges/America getting it right in the end.

First week of the top 48. Nothing really to complain about here.
  • Edon is phenomenal.
  • David Garibaldi and his CMYKs -awesome, the absolutely nailed it with "Paint it Black" but I think they need to do something other than another face next time out to get further.
  • The Scott Brothers - Again, awesome. The choice of music and dance was fantastic. Totally mesmerizing.
  • Shanice and Maurice Hayes - This is the only one I'm not 100% sold on. I agree with Howie that Shanice is a star, Maurice might be holding her back. Despite a poorer performance than Vegas, I liked The Distinguished Men of Brass better, but the Hayes' isn't a bad choice.

As for the other 36? I think Turf is a HUGE wild card. What he does certainly doesn't seem like a million dollar act, but what he pulls of is pretty fucking cool and it's impressive to watch.

What happened to the Earth Harp guy? Did he not make it? He was probably my #1 favorite of everyone pre-Vegas.

Bored tonight so I ended up watching already. A whole lot of 'meh, in this batch of 12. None were bad, per se, but I don't think most of them brought it. Felt like a bunch of acts that probably shouldn't have moved on in the first place.

My picks
  • Turf - like I mentioned above, there's just something about this kid and his moves that are exciting to watch
  • Tom Cotter - Up until now I thought he had great timing and stage presence but lacked the jokes. Tonight he brought it, and it almost felt like he has his own "redneck" or "git r done" bit to be memorable
  • Tim Hockenberry - He's a fantastic singer and outshines all the other musical acts. His real competition is Edon and the mariachi boy. Two kids could split the vote paving the way for him to move on.
  • Wild Card - It's between Ben Blaque, Hawley Magic & Donovan & Rebecca - I'm leaning towards Ben Blaque.

Turf, Tom & Tim brought their A games. Ben, Hawley & Donovan were on par with each other(not quite up to the three Ts) and the other half dozen were very forgettable.

Very weak night overall. I thought Turf and the acrobats were the best. The third spot should go to Hockenberry, but I agreed with Howard. He's really good, but tonight wasn't his best performance. The last spot will probably go to the comedian, but I don't like him at all. I've seen him three times now and haven't laughed a single time.

I think the act to beat right now is Garibaldi.

I like the acrobats, but they're too technical and not graceful enough.

I like that Howard called out Mandel on sending Big Barry through. Never should have been this far in the show.

Pretty sure he's the guy that tanked last week with the shovel and vacuum cleaner instruments.

No, that's a different guy. The "Earth Harp" guy was one of three (along with the dog act and ...I'm not sure) that got an automatic pass to New York. He hasn't appeared yet.

Howard is brutal and it is awesome. Well deserved criticism. Nice that he is taking this seriously.

Cool. Probably got a pass because it takes so long to setup and take apart his harp.

I still haven't warmed to the comedian. His act seems so small compared to everyone else. I've yet to laugh at any of his jokes, which seem very cliched. That bit he did he did on Monday seemed like a routine George Carlin would have done if he was shitty.

Pretty easy to call who was going through and who wasn't. The comedian was amusing the first time, but his last act felt way too rehearsed; it wasn't loose enough.

Yeah, while he was doing that I was thinking it seemed like George Carlin material, and I could actually see George Carlin making that work with his exaggerated mannerisms, facial expressions, and inflection.

The comedian (can't remember his name -- not a good sign) comes off as stiff and bland; he doesn't own the stage or connect with the audience.

How could Big "Sucky" Barry get through with only Howie in his corner? Didn't it take at least 2 out of 3 judges to allow someone to proceed? Sharon did not like Barry either.

To be fair, Carlin wouldn't have been very successful if you gave hom only two minutes to do his act. A story-telling comedian, -or one who is sort of loose in his delivery, -would have been lost, too. He was trying to get a lot of jokes out in a very short period of time.

So it seems that Howard Stern's beloved bulldog Bianca passed away today. It'll be interesting to see Howard's demeanor on the live show tonight. I wonder if the dog act is scheduled for tonight.

Yeah, I'm wondering how it will affect him tonight. I'll bet he puts on a good game face. Maybe Beetlejuice will be there and he'll mention that.

Guh, Wordspit was my favorite act.

And, wow, Britain's Got Talent winner was pretty lame.

Re: America's Got Talent - Stern Edition

I liked Wordspit a lot and agreed with what Howard had to say. I'm more interested in watching a band do their own songs than covering Rolling Stone/Lady Gaga/whatever music NBC wants to buy the rights to. The bike riding guys act looks like shit on TV, it was just a big jumbled mess I had no idea what I was looking at. I would rather have seen Wordspit preform again then a bunch of dudes jumping off bike ramps.

Howard brought up a good point on his radio show today about the balancing guy who crapped out. He said the guy had no idea how to build up to something. He should have started small and built up to the hardest part. It would have created suspense and an escalating sense of danger. Instead he shots his wad and when that screwed up his whole act was over.

Re: America's Got Talent - Stern Edition

why did they lump all the good talent into next week's episode? Two of the three of the automatic New York acts should make it, the Olate Dogs and the earth harp dude. The human cannonball should stay at the circus. Then you got the sand/light painter, mariachi kid, Horse, and the mind reader. Tough week coming up.

As of now I think Wordspit is the wildcard.

wordspit was interesting, but i could never hear or understand the guy rapping. like ever. i'm sure it was good, but meh.

as for lumping all the good acts together for next week, that's an understatement. i'm wondering if that has something to do with trying to put the best on the show right before the olympics starts. speak of, how is this show going to work around the olympics?

The show won't be on till after the Olympics

Re: America's Got Talent - Stern Edition

I think the last episode was pretty much a total bust. I'm with Howard, the producers were heavily intoxicated when they grouped the acts for each night. Tonight's lineup is fucking insane. There's no way only 4 of this bunch move through.

That being said, I've been high on William Close (Earth Harp) since the first night he was on. I'm totally with the judges on this one. There have been some amazing acts this season, but he is the only one I could envision paying money to go see. America sucks if he isn't at least in the final 2.

My picks:
  • William Close - reason mentioned above
  • Sebastien El Charro de Oro - knocks it out of the park every. single. time. I think he's top 3 material easy.
  • Dittleman - seems like nothing more than a parlor trick but fuck me, it's a damn fucking cool parlor trick
  • Lindsey Norton - There are 47 acts that came out and were serious about their acts and busted their asses to impress the judges, she is the only one with a personality. She is just cute as a button.
Wild Card - Joe Castillo - His sand art act is very, very cool and before Lindsey came on I thought he'd be in. I think she just knocked him out.

As for the rest, human cannonball isn't really a talent. I can live without a dog act. I can also live without moving "Jackass" Horse guy through. It may be a talent to take that kind of repeated trauma, but it's a thin line between talent and stupidity.

Unity in Motion did great, but won't move on because of stiff talent. Same for All That (the cloggers), very impressive but the stiff competition will kill them.

Can't wait to watch this on Hulu tomorrow. Pretty much all my favorite acts were on tonight.

It definitely sucks some of the crap acts from last week weren't saved until tonight.

I haven't seen his second performance yet, but I agree with Michael based on the first performance alone that William Close will be one of the finalists.
