Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

HBO has already submitted its actors for official Emmy consideration. Everybody is in the Supporting Actor or Actress categories:

S. Actor - Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Alfie Allen (Theon), Kit Harington (Jon), Richard Madden (Robb)
S. Actress - Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), Lena Headey (Cersei), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn), Maisie Williams (Arya), Sophie Turner (Sansa)

The show submitted "The North Remembers" (the season premiere) and "The Night Lands" (the second episode) for Best Drama. Although the above actors are the official HBO selections, this does not prevent any individual actors not listed to submit themselves so Jack Gleeson could do that if he wants.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

Interesting. Not just the all-supporting submissions (I sort of expected that), but the submissions of Episodes 1 & 2. I understand why they wouldn't want to send out an episode that hasn't yet aired, but for a year I've been reading for almost a year in magazines like EW about (I don't think this is really a spoiler, contains no specifics, and I know nothing about what happens the books, but I'll spoilerize it anyway as to not offend anyone)
Spoiler:
a huge, elaborate and very expensive battle-themed episode directed by George R.R. Martin
. If they were going to make their best pitch for an Emmy, (and assuming it's during the eligibility period, which I think it would be), why not wait until your showcase episode if you've got to pick two for consideration?

I'm assuming the episode in question would be the season finale. Should be interesting.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

Have to agree with Decker. Pretty much any episode of GOT blows everything else away in terms of quality, yet it does seem that they would want to submit the absolutely most dramatic, riveting, cinematic episode available (assuming that the climactic part of Book Two is displayed in all its awesomeness onscreen). The first two episodes featured lots of fine acting from a varied cast, but they will perhaps prove to be among the weakest Season 2 episodes due to the large amount of time spent on story exposition & introduction of new characters. At least, that's how I'd view it if I were judging those episodes vs. some powerful, self-contained episodes of other shows.

GOT is a show that almost begs to be judged in its entirety (by seasons) and should have won Best Drama hands-down last season...although the episode with the judgment of Ned was one of the most powerful in recent tv memory.

Is there a web site with a detailed map of the world of Game of Thrones? I'm looking but have not found a really good one with more than just Westeros.

BTW : Tell me I'm not the only one who missed noticing this for ages -- I only last week noticed that next to each actor's names in the opening credits, there is a logo that corresponds to the house of that character. It's clever and useful, but somehow, being so small and going by so quickly, I never even noticed it.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

Is that really the right location on that map for Qarth? It looks like it's much, MUCH closer to Westeros on the map in the credits, and the credits show it being northwest of Vaes Dothrak.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

I never really pay attention to the map at the beginning aside from watching for new locations, but as far as I know from my book memory, Qarth is about as far away from King's Landing as you can get.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Old Gods and the New" -- 5/06/12

I'd post a Youtube video to prove my point, but I can't (at work), and the video above is from Season 1. But it really looks like it's in the northwestern part of Essos...that's why it threw me when Jorah stated "this is as far east as I've ever been", because if you look at Vaes Dothrak vs. Qarth on the credits' map, Qarth is further west than Vaes Dothrak.

Incorrect. Vaes Dothrak as shown in the opening credits is well north of Qarth. I believe you may be a bit confused as the "camera" doesn't swing down south to King's Landing before heading east as it does in all the other versions of the credits. Instead, it heads SE from The Wall to Qarth. BTW, how neat is it that this show already has 7 different versions of its opening credits in just a season and a half?

GRRM posted on his blog that his script for next season is done and turned in and they are casting right now so some announcements about that could be coming soon.

Is it not common sense? What's the point? Book 6: book forum. Season 3: create a thread for that.

Or villify me because you can't control yourself. This thread is not related to any of that stuff. But you know that.

Lighten up, dude. The next episode is on tonight & there be a whole new discussion. It's not as though there have been pages and pages discussing the book.

And "villify"? Man, that's reaching a whole new level of self-aggrandizement.

There were several posts discussing the submission of Ep. 1 & 2 for Emmy consideration (along with the actors), and I don't recall anybody having a coronary over that.

Agreed.

<hr>

Also, Alfie Allen (Theon), should have no issue playing a character with a more attractive and talented sister, and a more famous father. He's barely acting.
