I've read that his

Spoiler:
Not what I heard. I've read he took the role originally to work with RTD.
He's mentioned in some interviews this year, his problem was with the directors treating the crew like crap. I dont think he was happy with the higher ups at the BBC wales either. But as he worked the first season on a reboot I'm sure things were more stressful. Once everybody realized the show was a success, things settled down. Neither David nor Matt have had a bad thing to say. I have a link to his interview if ya'll want it.

Well...
Spoiler:
I can't really say I was a fan of the "junkyard" theme of the current TARDIS interior, so I welcome this change.

Spoiler:
It sort of bugs me when they make references to and bring back things from the missing episodes because it's impossible to go back and watch them. They did this before with the Macra in "Gridlock."

Can someone explain to me how the show and specials work? I bought Season 5 and 6 on Blu-ray but there are several "movies" also available. Are these not on the Season sets?

Excuse my ignorance I am very new to Dr Who.

This thread should help: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/603...n-why-how.html

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...s_1_.282005.29

Basically there is a Christmas Special after every season. It's really just a Christmas themed episode. Also, between seasons 4 and 5, David Tennant (10th Doctor) was busy doing Shakesphere, so instead of doing a full season, there were 4 specials over a years time. I'm not sure if they are packaged with the series sets, but the Wikipedia page will give you the episode names and the order they are in.

The Christmas Specials typically air after one season ends and the next begins, so they're typically packaged with the complete season set for the season that comes after it. For the past two seasons, they've released the Christmas Specials as separate discs before the complete season set came out. The special "A Christmas Carol" is on the Complete Series 6 set (not the part 1 or part 2 sets), while "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe" is expected to appear on the Complete Series 7 set when it comes out (along with the upcoming Christmas Special, as this is the first season of NuWho where the season has been split between before and after Christmas).

As Strafe mentioned, between seasons 4 and 5 there were 5 specials played out over the course of a year (or 4 specials, depending on how you count "The End of Time Parts 1 & 2"). These were released individually on disc, which were later combined into one set called "Doctor Who: The Complete Specials". These specials could be considered season 4.5, and they're not on any season set.

So, to have all the episodes of NuWho, you should buy the following sets release so far:

Complete Series 1
Complete Series 2
Complete Series 3
Complete Series 4
The Complete Specials
Complete Series 5
Complete Series 6

Personally, I'd hold off on buying Series 7 Part One and just wait for the complete series set.

So if I buy the second Christmas Special, I'll be good with the Matt Davies episodes?

Thanks for all the help guys. These release are confusing.

They do Christmas specials each year; those are included in the complete season sets, though they do get separate releases before the complete season sets come out. As long as you stick to the complete season sets, you'll be fine here.

There were also four "specials" that ran over the course of a year instead of a regular season in order to give David Tennant time to do other things. These have also been released as a set, which sort of functions as a "Season 4.5" as it were. Like the Christmas Specials, these also received their own standalone releases.

The proper viewing order is as follows:

Complete Series One
Complete Series Two
Complete Series Three
Complete Series Four
Complete Specials [Think of this as an extension of Series Four]
Complete Series Five
Complete Series Six

...and then we're now in the middle of Series Seven, the first half of which was released to DVD and Blu-ray, but if you're buying these I would suggest waiting for the complete set.

(ETA: Looks like Jay G posted the exact same info a few minutes earlier. )

You mean Matt Smith?

Since you already have Series 5 and 6, the next episode would be "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe" special, on it's own separate release, followed by Series 7 Part 1, if you're watching on disc only and can't wait for the complete Series 7 set, which will like have both that Christmas Special, the upcoming Christmas Special, and both parts of Series 7. Note that the second half or Series 7 isn't airing until "Spring 2013," so there's going to be a bit of a wait for the compete Series 7 set.

I've just started watching the 2005 series, my first introduction to the show. I'm really enjoying it, but I have to say, seeing the level of excitement here for the Christmas specials and the show overall have me greatly looking forward to what's to come. I hope I enjoy it as much as you guys seem to.

Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)

It was Series Six. Not Five. Some of the discs had a weird grain issue on the episodes and bonus features. Top half of the screen was clean while the bottom half was grainy on some set ups.

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread....ght=doctor+who

Contact [email protected] to exchange the discs (if you have Series Six). I exchanged all the discs in the set to be safe. Replacements came back pretty quick.

Re: Doctor Who: Series 7 (Fall 2012)

I just checked my discs, and it's definitely there. It's not the kind of think that's readily obvious, but once you see it's the kind of thing you can't not notice.

To check your discs, put in DISC ONE and play the "Space" mini episode. Go to 1:12 and press PAUSE. You'll see Amy. A little more than half way down the screen, a little bit below the top of Amy's shoulders, there's a line (not an actual line, more like a boundary) below which everything is noticeably "noisier." It's not quite grain; it looks more like an upconverted DVD than actual film grain. It can easily be seen just to the right of Amy's left arm on the solid tan wall and against the orange roundel. It can also be seen very clearly against the solid yellow wall at 1:43.

Now put in DISC THREE and play "The Rebel Flesh." Go to 34:54 and press PAUSE. The effect is particularly noticeable against the blue locker at the right edge of the screen. The top half of the locker is a solid color, and the bottom half (just below the white, round door handle or whatever it is) is "noisy."

Thanks.

Going to get them exchanged. Sucks as I just finished Season Five and would likely start Six tonight. Might just suffer through some of the grain.
