FOX cancels Terra Nova
According to Deadline, Terra Nova won't be coming back...at least on FOX.
Fox Cancels Drama ‘Terra Nova’, Series Being Shopped To Other Networks
There will be no second season of Fox’s pre-historic drama Terra Nova. Fox brass just made the decision after weeks of exploring a second season. Fox had to make the decision early so the show could make a fall return if renewed. Despite its pedigree, produced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin, Terra Nova did not become a runaway hit but its decent ratings, coupled with strong international sales for sibling 20th Century Fox TV, which produces the series, were keeping renewal hopes alive. 20th TV is now shopping Terra Nova to other networks.

If this improves Alcatraz's prospects for a 2nd season, I'll be happy.
Kind of feel bad for Jon Cassar, who was the lead director on the series. I know he liked working on this show from reading his Tweets last year during production of the series. But, I think his talents are better suited elsewhere.

I'd rather someone come up with a new, good sci-fi show than try to keep this turkey going.

I thought it was mediocre. I would have watched a second season, but didn't mind if it got cancelled either. It was a toss up for me.

Re: FOX cancels Terra Nova
Squandered potential ... this show should have been so much more. Terra Nova was good at walking right up to the line and then refusing to tackle the difficult socio-political issues. Starting with the pilot episode they would flaunt an issue and the never explore it -- the morality of intrusive governmental policies vs. the "good of the whole" (limited family sizes, a police officer willingly violates the law), do societal punishments fit the crime (they send him to prison, making him a bigger burden on society and allow the illegal child to live, further taxing resources), illegal immigration (an escaped convict illegally enters the past and everybody is OK with it?), and even the rights of the few vs. the whole (should the colony have the right to protect its own rights when it damns the future world to death?).
Instead we get Lost/X-Files light ... we'll throw in a mysterious hermit/prodigal son, some funny drawings on rocks ... and then ignore most of that stuff until the last episode, and then - hopefully - a new mystery (the ship's figurehead) might buy us another season ...
Nonetheless, I enjoyed it while it lasted ... here's to hoping somebody will pick it up!

Have one more eleven episode season to tell one more story and tie up any lose ends. (If a season is twenty two episodes there really needs to be more then one story if that is the format it is using)

edit:
Deadline.com provided the exact figures on how much Terra Nova cost:
In the end, Terra Nova, whose budget was $14 million for the two-hour pilot and about $4 million for the subsequent episodes, not including Australian tax breaks, premiered last fall with one of Fox’s most hyped launches. It was a steady but modestly-rated performer and a big DVR gainer. The series two-hour season finale drew a 2.2/6 in adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers, in line with the show’s season average, which wasn’t big enough to seal a renewal but not too small to warrant an automatic cancellation. Then the waiting game began.

According to an update on Deadline.com story. It said that the studio was going to change showrunners for season 2 and they brought in a potential new showrunner to pitch a season 2 idea to FOX's President. Apparently he never really liked Terra Nova in the 1st place and just decided to cut his losses and pull the plug.
Edit:
The Deadline.com article also says that is possible Fringe could get a 13 episode final season if it's budget can be trimmed.

Someone must have came in and pitched a "new" reality show ...
With the crap, and I mean CRAP that is on TV today, I am not the least bit surprised at this. It may not have been great but it was miles better than most shit on TV
Rather than see what they can do to minimize the budget, they just ditch it to spend more money and more resources on something that will probably only last one season itself. Maybe not even a few episodes.

There's a lot of great shows currently. Terra Nova wouldn't even make my Top 15.This is the real news. Please let it happen. Please!

Yeah. Glad I saw the final episodes, but mid-season on, I always had a MAJOR backlog of it on my DVR. It was always literally the last thing I'd watch.

I would hope. Warner ought to heavily subsidize this show to lower passed the production costs off to FOX. If this final season happens and they get to tie up everything, the show will do much better in syndication and will home video sales than if S4 leaves the series unresolved.
I know they said they had a 6 season plan, but giving them a 5th season should at least allow them to wrap things up in a satisfactory way. Then again Chuck wasted a half a season on Morgan knowing full well it was the final season.

I hope they bring it back without all of that expensive CGI, and just retool it as a family melodrama set in the jungle.

Go watch Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Justified, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Dexter, Homeland, Shameless, Southland, Downton Abbey, Awake, etc;
