Very sad.

I was actually sad to read this last week. With the possible exception of Shane O'Neill, I'd agree that Marshal was the best artist ever on the show.

Ah, man. What a bummer to win the show, get some acclaim and die so young. And he had a family. I didn't mind his cocky attitude because he had the skills to back it up.

It's really tough to compare a style like american traditional (which is intentionally basic-looking) to a photo-realistic tattoo. As a viewer, the photo-realism tattoo just looks phenomenal. But to the judges, who have a hard-on for american traditional (especially Oliver), they go ga-ga for the traditional tattoo.
So finally, I got to the last episode of Ink Master last night (since Hulu and Spike are apparently on some crazy 3 week delay)...and I will agree Kruseman did do an excellent tattoo, and possibly better than Chris on that one, but Chris was leaps and bounds above everybody during this whole competition. I mean, like others have said I can't stand Chris on a personal level, but the guy can do some amazing work.

But was it just me or did this season seem a little weak when it came to contestants not named Chris or Kruseman or to a small degree, Tyler who turned it up near the end? Matt and Craig who were "front runners" consistently had really questionable tattoos (and so did Kruseman until the last few shows) throughout the course of the show.

On other notes, I am interested to see the new season next year, and no surprise at all that on a "Revenge" / Return type show, St. Marq is coming back. He was a great villain and should play well with the other contestants.
Also...Marissa is ridiculously hot. That's all.

Watched the Halloween episode, and was delighted that superdouche St. Marc was shut out three tats straight. What a schmuck. All ego and mouth, no results.

Anyone watching the new season? Revenge

I like it so far - I like the twist of the veterans coming back and getting to pick the subject matter for the challenge.

So far, the newbies have some real standouts. Picasso is one of the best artists they've ever had on the show (although his tattoo skill isn't as refined), and the redhead girl and face tattoo dude are solid. The rest are kind of meh and should be gone before the veterans (although jeez - st marq is still a douche).

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

I agree with your take on the newbies. Picasso looks like he can do solid work, but doesnt seem to handle pressure too well. The guy with the face tatts doe nice work as well. Both should do well. Great to see St Marq fuck up so badly on his own choice of tattoo. What a stupid idea anyway. He thought he was being clever (and the fact his line work can be horrible). Hope he goes real soon. Some strong contenders coming back from the veterans. Sarah Miller does really great work (and she is looking pretty damn hot these days). Sausage is very talented. Matty the same. Clean Rock One (still one of the most stupid names in the history of the world) can do good pieces and bad pieces. Seems to be better than the last season so far.

Yeah she's done some of my favorite work on all the seasons of the show. She was just on an all-female ink master show, and she blew the other women out of the water.

And agree she's looking pretty good. She even had a pretty big transformation from her regular season to the finale. I think she saw herself on TV and that was the kick in the ass she needed to get in better shape.

Her facial expressions in season 1 STILL make me laugh, though. she was INTENSE.

As for Picasso - i know we're only like 2 episodes in, but everything he's drawn has had high artistic value (even his sketch of the model). I could easily see him going home for technical aspects, though (like Chris going home instead of Ashley this week - his tattoo (while weird) was far better designed. Just not a lot of contrast). Just hope Picasso sticks around to see more of his stuff.

I almost commented on that myself, -I remember her making quite an impression at the finale, compared to how she presented herself leading up to it. She's definitely exploiting her assets (which I don't mind), but she has the talent to back it up. They couldn't even build much suspense in the "Sirens of Ink" special (which they couldn't even come up with a fourth "Siren", -Tatu Baby must have been busy), since Sarah clearly dominated the comp. Of course, she had that "Ink Shrink" (or whatever) pilot that didn't get picked up. Looking forward to her appearance later in this season.

Did Ink Shrinks actually air? I saw something online that indicated it did, but I definitely never saw it.

What's funny is she's one of the contestants that MOST needed a shrink for herself during her time on the show.

Yeah, I watched it, -I just remember little about it (I can't remember if it was just one episode or a few, or if it aired right after "Ink Master").

Red head chick is kinda hot in this weird "maybe she's got a wiener way." I'm not proud I said that.

With that nonsense out of the way... I don't know if it's fair to have a veteran come in every week like that. Basically the last veteran to show up is going to have the easiest path ever to winning since they didn't have to compete as long as everyone else.

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

Another week, another great drawing by Picasso - he's got to up his technical game, though. Hopefully he realizes that

Forgot to mention Anthony in my earlier post - his chopper tattoo was just ok, but his week 1 gluttony tattoo was really good, as was his one this week.

That dude that wanted the "fame chaser" tattoo - what a HORRIBLE idea, and while technically fine, looked stupid as hell.

@madcougar I got the same vibe about the red head.

Some good artists this time around - enjoying it. Thanks for the reminder it started.

Well, picasso couldn't overcome his technical shortfalls. Although, i REALLY didn't like his eye of sauron mask at all. Decent drawing, but was flat and lifeless. Cleen's mask was so damn excellent.

Honestly, I didn't even know "Venetian Masks" were a "thing", -I've seen them, though I didn't know that's what they were. Its one of those odd subjects where I wouldn't want the tattoo because its so damn "Arty".

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

Its a shame that Picasso went. Great artist, but his ink skills are not where they need to be. Guy can really draw superbly and seems to have a great imagination. I actually still preferred his piece to that nerd guys.

Yeah Sarah Miller gave some weird facial expressions the season she was on. She did some great work though. Coming back for the finale i seem to recall Dave saying (off camera nut mic picked it up) "Sarahs looking good." She did lose a lot of weight and looked good in that little dress. Great pair of jubilees on her. I saw the episode with the all female artists. It wasnt even close. She easily walked it, as i thought she would.

Interesting to see Sausage and Matty Hixson going at it. I recall Matty being good friends with Scott Marshal before he died. Scott and Matty really had a disliking for Sausage (who i find a pretty great artist). By the time all the veterans are back it should be interesting as they are certainly bringing back some of the strongest competitors.

By the way, anyone checked out Redemption thats on afterwards? Funny to see so many artists go at it with previous canvasses. That chick with the cheeta prints and her boyfriend were so fucking dumb. If i had been one of the artists i would have talked to all the others and said lets all walk away from her. I know they are going on to get more exposure, but i dont think its good when they have a whiny pissant come on and berate you. The canvasses knew what they were getting into first time around and more fool them. There was also that skank artist (Ashley?) who almost got into a fight with the guy and his wife that came to have her horrible work fixed. Got pretty nasty, but thats right up her street....nasty tattoos, nasty face, nasty attitude. Truly a horrible and talentless tattoo artist.

The first few episodes of redemption (from last season, i think) were great, because the people getting tattoos had no idea that the original artist was going to be the one tattooing them. Now the cat is out of the bag, and the people coming on know to expect that.

Oh, and definitely agree picasso should have stayed instead of that rockoff guy. his work has suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked the entire season.

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

St Marq got sent packing and he deserved to go. He is pretty useless as an artist. His work was terrible. Its funny how he really believes that he is far better than he is. Talk about delusional. That chick will go soon as her work was not stellar and that nerd with the glasses is halfway out the door. His work is always poor. The return of the older competitors is making it much more interesting. They are bringing back some of the best rather than weaker people. Jimmi Litwalk never really impresses me. Its funny that people say he is the guy who pioneered New Skool, but for me its basically cutsie cartoon drawing thats been around for years. Nothing new at all. He is a good artist, but his range does seem pretty limited. I think its gonna come down to Sarah Miller, Sausage and maybe Cleen Rock One/Jimmi Litwalk in the final. The judges do seem to have a bias towards some of the more well known artists and Jimmi is one of them, so pretty sure they will make sure he gets to the final one way or another.

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

Sarah Miller didn't do a particularly good job of the task she herself set on this weeks episode. Good to see that little dweeb got the boot though. His piece wasn't great, but i personally felt it was still way better than Cleen Rock One. That human wolf thing was sooooooo bad. Just awful. That guy Anthony did an amazing piece. Probably one of the cleanest and best executed tattoos i have ever seen on the show. His skill is top notch and out of the newbies he looks like he is headed to the final.

On a side note, i see that St Marq has one of the most years experience as a tattoo artist. 26 years. Jesus, after that long his skill is piss poor. Good riddance to that waste of space.

I dont think Sarah knows what surrealism is because there was nothing surreal about her tattoo. Just an overly dark mess. Anthony's was great but the redheaded chick nailed what the challenge called for.

One of the most arrogant people I have ever seen, but perhaps it was all an act for the cameras.

re: Ink Master (Paramount Network)

I finally got to watch the new season episodes. For some reason, my cable company dropped Spike. I went to visit my pop this weekend and we watched all the episodes aired so far. Gaw! I fucking HATE all the drama! The first couple of seasons didn't have that bullshit. Good to see Sausage back. Glad that nerdy dude went home. I wonder if his girlfriend is pissed off that he fucked up her face?

Megan Jane won't last long

The only 2 newbies who can hang with the vets are Christian and the black guy, can't remember his name

I do think this show overdoes bringing back previous contestants
