Did anyone pick up the new Walking Dead Special Edition BD. I picked it up a few days ago and I'm actually sad that Darabont won't be part of this show anymore. His commentary on the Pilot was fantastic and I love how passionate his was about the show. Anyways, looking forward to Sunday night.

Also, as mentioned in the last thread, it's a split season. 7 episodes will air this year. The remaining 6 will air in Mid-February.

I've been hearing this is the best episode of the series so far. Can't wait!

I found these two explanations:
Why was Frank Databont Fired From 'The Walking Dead'?
'The Walking Dead': What Really Happened to Fired Showrunner Frank Darabont
Why was Frank Databont Fired From 'The Walking Dead'?
'The Walking Dead': What Really Happened to Fired Showrunner Frank Darabont
I say cancel The Killing and roll that money into The Walking Dead if they're so hard up (i.e. greedy) for money.
Back on topic. I've been anticipating this show's return since last year. I can't wait!

Didn't know AMC is screwing up other shows as well. I'm excited for this show to be back on TV, though I do not like how the season got split. That's what killed Men of a Certain Age, though their split was even longer. And with a new writer, it's going to be interesting. Question is, won't his writing be in this season since he got fired midway through shooting the new season?

Looking forward to this immensely, but I'm still disappointed in the split season.

I was just looking for AMC on DTv to record the show and I can't seem to find it. I even did a smart search for The Walking Dead and it tells me there are no upcoming showings. Anyone else having issues with DirecTV?

I really wasn't impressed with last season. Started out well but sputtered toward the end. I'll check out this season, but if it's more of the same as last season I don't see myself sticking with it long.

I feel the same way. The first episode blew me away but every episode after that just made me lose interest more and more, I never even got around to watching the season finale. I love the comic, I love Darabont and I love the genre but the show just seemed flat after awhile. I'm hoping Season 2 will suck me back in like the first episode.

Basically to make a long story short if you didn't want to read those 2 links, Frank Darabont was asked by AMC to make 13 hours for season 2 with less money. He butted heads with the network and they let him go. Not 100% sure, but I think Darabont was involved with the first 4-5 episodes of this season. Glen Mazzara, who worked on The Shield, and was a writer/producer last season is the new showrunner. Greg Nicotero, who is the makeup guy on the show and a friend of Darabont, was promoted to Co-Executive Producer and given a production deal by AMC.
Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy's showrunner, alleged on Twitter months ago that AMC paying Lionsgate and Matt Weiner a shit load of money to renew Mad Men for 2 seasons wiped out alot of their cash reserves and they were forced to make budget cuts on The Walking Dead since it's their own production. AMC said that Sutter is full of shit.

Darabont has his fingers in a lot of the first few episodes this season.
Early reviews are suggesting that this episode might beat out last year's premiere in terms of quality.

I'll probably watch this but when I went back and rewatched the first season I really didn't enjoy it as much. The pilot was good and it had some moments from there but overall it was pretty meh. It kind of sucks that Frank Darabont is no longer on the series either.
Also it's pretty easy to tell that this show is becoming a cash cow as there's really no reason to split a thirteen episode in half. This way they can sell season two part one and part two and then go back and re-release it again..

I'm really looking forward to this. I just purchased the hardcover version of the graphic novels. After reading the first 2 books I rewatched season 1. For the most part I think the show did a better job building up some of the tension and adding some character development that was missing from the comics. The glaring exception is the season finale which strayed from the comics and definitely not in a good way. I'm writing this off to the show needing something that would suffice as a potential series finale if a second season didn't get picked up. I'm hoping this season goes back to the source material with regard to where they end up after leaving camp (and it wasn't to the CDC). Based on the preview trailer it does look like this is the direction they are taking things in this direction.
