EDIT: after going through the previous posts, is it true that the first few episodes are Darabont's and his season 1 writing team?
To be fair, this was everyone's complaint last season around here

BTW, not sure how many people here have kept up with all the comic books, but just somewhat recently in the comics and somewhat related to this episode -

Spoiler:
Carl gets shot in the face while the group is fighting off zombies, although he lives but loses some of his memory and an eye.

I wonder what they're doing in the show.

I really liked it. Hope the missing kid thing doesn't drag on but I'm glad to have this show back.

Does AMC stream these later?

Yeah, after the herd scene I was shocked at how dull this was. What's the point of having an extra-long episode if nothing really happens (and we didn't even get resolution on the stupid missing kid).

And how long before they realize doing a live discussion show highlighting these contradictions is a bad idea?

I enjoyed it. At first, I didn't like that it took so long to see some zombies, but after the herd scene, I understood why. I like that they took time to remind us of the setting these people were in.

Like many of you, I felt it started with a bang and ended with a whimper. The last 45 minutes was pretty dull.

Loved the start, but then it dragged, like everyone said. I called the ending, though. Saw that coming a mile away and LOVED it. At least the ending makes me want to see the next episode. And the blonde girl and the cop should hook up. Girl needs a good lay.

They mention that gas was a concern, but they have hundreds of cars.

Why are many of those people in the cars dead? They weren't eaten and they didn't appear to have trauma or be in accidents.

Re: The Walking Dead -- 90 Minute Premiere -- "What Lies Ahead" -- 10/16/11

I am from Georgia, and for the record I have never ever heard of a Baptist church having a crucifix behind the altar. A cross? Sure. But a crucifix? That's some kind of heathen Papist thing! Maybe they do that in some weird Baptist churches in Louisiana or something, but not Georgia!

Also, I wonder where the electricity was coming from to power the bells.

And why were there so many dead people in cars on the interstate? Did NO ONE try to get out and run?

And was it just me, or did the interstate seem to change all the time? Early in the episode, it looked like a straight stretch of road. Then Dale got on top of the RV and there was suddenly a curve ahead of them. And when Dale's on the RV, there's what looks like a level corn or wheat field on the right side of the road, but then the kid takes off and it's suddenly a steep drop and then forest. And the cars seemed to move all the time, even taking in to account that they were moving them to Dale could turn the RV around.

I want to like this show, but even as a fictional story it makes little sense.

I dunno, I liked it, and I even watched all of Season 1 today, since I'd never seen it before. But I can agree with some of the complaints, and there are plenty of plot holes (worrying about gas and broken vehicles when there are a thousand other vehicles sitting there waiting to be driven) I like the zombie genre, but I have to wonder how a bunch of zombies could somehow overrun a well armed military and police force. It's not like the whole plague started out with a million zombies all at once. Just shoot em in the head!

Re: The Walking Dead -- 90 Minute Premiere -- "What Lies Ahead" -- 10/16/11

I was entertained, but this was not my favorite Walking Dead episode.

Other than the great opening sequence with the Zombie herd on the highway, it dragged alot. After almost 1 year off, I'm surprised they opened the season with a mostly dull search and rescue episode. Why couldn't Sophia have just traced her steps back to the highway and instead of wander off aimlessly through the night and going into the next day? Couldn't she have yelled to Rick where she was?

But, going back to the Zombie herd sequence....That was top notch. Very supenseful and well directed.

I like Norman Reedus being part of the cast as a series regular. Daryl is a cool character. And we still have yet to see the wrath of Merle.

Andrea is coming across as a major uptight bitch, but I did like her chat with Dale referencing what happened in last season's finale. I agree she needs to get laid badly..

The ending with Carl getting shot did catch me off guard. An okay, but not great start to season 2.

I disagree with you there. Even though Morgan and his son were only in the Pilot, I like that Rick hasn't forgotten about him. Morgan did save his life and they formed a friendship. I think these little conversations are good way to keep viewers from forgetting about Morgan.

On the downside though, I read that Lennie James signed on to do a TV series in England, so a Morgan-Rick reunion is probably not going to happen this season.

This is a pet peeve of mine also. In a situation where the vast majority of the population dies off relatively suddenly. Food (non perishable) and gas should be plentiful.

I just take this as the characters learning about the walkers, how it's spread, what will attract them, etc. They start out overly cautious and later pick up experience dealing with them.

Yeah it was terrible. MAN it was hard to sit through this lousy, idiotic episode.

I mean it was almost like the writers were trying to 'act normal' so you wouldn't notice they didn't have a clue, or were outright trolling the audience as a prank. Too many idiotic plot points and developments to even mention.

Maybe they needed another character to make some long, 'deep', monologuing prayer in the church or something...

The thing I remember from reading the comics is that Dale is very attached to the RV he refuses to leave it behind. They really haven't played that up in the series though.

My favorite part of the episode was when they were all freaking out over the lost girl and made a point of mentioning like a billion times that they were "losing daylight" and then they decide to hang out and pray to Jesus for like ever.

There must have been other RVs out there. Why not just take one that does not constantly break down every other episode?

Like everyone else I thought the last part was weak. It literary went to a dead stop with no resolution. It looks like they went back to the source material with the scenes for the next episode when they

Spoiler:
stumble on the farm with the zombies locked up in the barn. And the Asian guy meets his girlfriend.
