Don't get me wrong, I love Star Trek...It just feels like the wrong formula for this series. I'll give it another episode or two anyway.

I did think it was hilarious that when facing these birds that go after their heads with claws, they kept chasing after them without as much as a bicycle helmet on.

I think one of the things that bugged me the most is how two of the most potentially exciting scenes were done off camera: catching two live pterodactyls and escaping the swarm after unloading a barrel of pheromones. With the later scene actually being narrated to us by one of the characters about how exciting it was.

Really‽ Barely escaped with your lives, huh? Sounds exciting. Someone should do a show about that.

24 was a soap opera and that never held it back. Big difference being 24 had Jack Bauer, this show has... uh, what's his name.

What, you don't want vehicles that you can easily escape if you get into trouble?

Liked it. Big step up from pilot.

I liked it as well, had that 'monster of the week' vibe, they can't totally play out the sixer thing too fast.

Liked the son better this episode, not sure why, guess because he wasn't being a typical douchey teenager.

dislike the romance triangle subplot with the new doctor.

I want them to wrap up the sixxer thing this season...have a good series finale, but leave it open for a 2nd season if it hangs on with decent ratings.

That bothered me as well. In fact, it's what I clicked on this thread to post.

Also, are we going to get an episode where that guy keeps his shirt on?

I didn't set a series pass for this and completely forgot to set my DVR this week. Oh well. I may seek it out.

Interesting review of the this episode from AV Club. They rate and review most TV shows currently on, as well as movies and books and.....

Ratings-wise, Terra Nova held up. Got a 3.1, which was the same as last week. I'm just curious to know whether these numbers are good enough. Obviously the show isn't making it's money back on the initial airing, so I assume FOX is hoping the international sales, DVD/BD will help recoup costs.

I hope it gets better. I really want to like it and I really liked the pilot, but geesh.
As another poster already pointed out, it was a step up in characterzation...if we don't care about these people, we're never going to care what happens to them. I'd still like to see the son and the wife eaten by raptors, but Jason O' Mara and Stephen Lang were MUCH better in this episode than the pilot.

I enjoyed this week, and will greatly appreciate it if they can keep the son toned-down. The show's not great, but it's decent enough and sci-fi shows tend to take awhile to find their voice.

This is my main problem with it as well. I could forgive the corny soap opera trappings. The love triangle and the need to give every character except the little girl a love interest within 30 seconds of them setting foot in Terra Nova. But I just dont care about any of these character in the least. I find the father particularly smug and annoying.

Yep, I keep hoping they WON'T make him a bad guy, but have the feeling they eventually will. He's got the potential to become the most interesting and likable character on the show. Which should be obvious anyway, since he's by far the best actor on the show.

True. We already learned that most dinos only take a nibble and leave you wander back to your group at night.

I think this show would be so much better if Marshall, Will, Holly and the Sleestacks show up.

Not sure about this one. The son was less of a douchebag, but the plot in general just didn't do it for me. You go 85 million years into an alternate timeline's past and you are shocked when a creature you didn't know about shows up? Will next week find them fending off prehistoric caveman nazi zombies?

I think I'm giving this one one more episode to sway me one way or the other.

Yeah, no kidding! "OK family, I'm going to the Land of Naked Women and Whisky Waterfalls to do some recon... but the cameraman will stay here and film you talking about some dumb guitar."

so, in light of one of the Bs from Voyager being a producer of this, how long until this gets some use?

Didn't watch the previews, but agree with everything else you said. The bird thingies kill three armed men (but don't devour) and later do not kill a single person in the colony. Add to that the pheromone rescue jeep which conveniently has no video of the "barely survived" rescue scene, and I am starting to get bored really fast.

Problem is I love these kind of shows. I just do not have the patience anymore for heroes that can't get hurt or characters that fall in and out of love like leaves in Autumn.
