Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

New Season. New Ratings.
CBS easily won the first night of the season as Two and Half Men scored nearly 28 million viewers to go along with its 10.3 adults 18-49 rating (leading not only the night, but any scripted show in the 2010-11 season by a wide margin).
Things were much gloomier for NBC. The Sing Off didn't crack a 2.0 rating and the premiere of The Playboy Club managed only a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating. By comparison, last season's premiere of the now cancelled Chase scored a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating in the preliminary numbers. More analysis coming, but the table of data is below:
Late-night results are below the primetime data.

How I Met Your Mother pulled Two and a Half Men ratings last night, Two and a Half Men pulled ridiculous ratings last night. 2 Broke Girls will probably be the biggest New Series debut of any this year.
Thanks Man!Jadzia:
Can you please make this ratings thread a sticky and lose the old one.
Of course, they'll fall off next week. But CBS did get a lot of eyeballs to watch 2 Broke Girls.

Update: ah, premiere week where the networks order special time-zone adjusted runs! Fox ordered one and based on that New Girl was up a tenth to a 4.8 adults 18-49 rating and Glee rose 0.2 to a 4.0 adults 18-49 rating. Those numbers will likely be identical in the national finals we'll see this afternoon.
Fox won the second night of the season with the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49, and CBS took top honors with total viewers. Glee premiered down 32% from last season's premiere to a 3.8 adults 18-49 ratings. But Fox isn't crying yet because New Girl debuted to a 4.7 adults 18-49 rating and eclipsed last season's 9p premiere of Raising Hope when Glee was stronger. Unforgettable didn't crack a 3.0, but premiered solidly with a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating and nearly 14 million viewers and was on par with the second hour of NCIS: LA that CBS aired at 10pm a year ago. CBS was up across-the-board from last year's Tuesday premieres when it ran an episode of NCIS and two hours of NCIS: LA. NCIS bettered Glee with adults 18-49 (though Glee still won out with adults 18-34).
Raising Hope premiered to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating, identical to last year's preliminary rating when it followed Glee. Against more 10pm competition, Parenthood didn't suffer much, down only a tenth from last year's premiere. Against more competition,
Bad news for ABC though, DWTS results fell 36% versus last year to a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating. Body Of Proof seemed solid (for a 10pm scripted drama on ABC, that is) but was down 26% from its late March premiere to a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating. Body Of Proof was also up 10% versus its May finale.
NBC's The Biggest Loser fell 21% from last fall's premiere to a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating, but versus more competition, Parenthood slipped only 5% from last week's premiere to a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. CW's Ringer fell 25% with adults 18-49 to a 0.9 rating in its second week, and was down 19% to a 1.3 rating with CW's target women 18-34 audience.
Late-night ratings are below the primetime data.

Ho-hum start for Glee, strong debut for New Girl, good demo score for Raising Hope.
From last week it looks like The Vampire Diaries pulled in 3.1M viewers. It hasn't pulled those figures since the middle of last season and then it fell under 3M, including the finale that was at 2.86M. I hope it can retain some of the viewers and make a strong season. Interestingly, the Secret Circle pulled in 3.0M, but I'd expect that to fall under 3M this week.
This video indicates the rating is the coverage percentage.

So Glee the ~8M watching Glee represented 11% of viewers across OTA/Cable/Satellite that receive a Fox station?

Update: early finals alert, in time-zone adjusted fast national numbers, The X Factor was adjusted up 0.2 with adults 18-49 to a 4.4 rating and 12.5 million viewers.
Fox eked out a win on the night with adults 18-49, but there might be more smiles at ABC and CBS. The X Factor's 4.2 adults 18-49 rating and 12.14 million viewers was nowhere close to Idol and well short of Modern Family's 6.0 adults 18-49 rating and 14.3 million viewers. A few have e-mailed to say the comparisons between X Factor and Idol are unfair, and while that is perhaps true, those comparisons were inevitable with Simon, Paula and a lot of promotion.
At 8pm, X Factor led, but Survivor held up with a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating and ABC's The Middle debuted to a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating, up 11% from last fall's premiere. As even NBC surely expected, its new comedies were down big from last week's premieres following America's Got Talent. Both shows fell 38% with adults 18-49, but Up All Night held up pretty well all things considered with a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating but Free Agents fell to a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating
At 9pm the aforementioned Modern Family, which was up 18% vs. last fall's half-hour premiere comfortably led The X Factor, but props to the somewhat unheralded Criminal Minds which debuted with a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating. Harry's Law got off to a (s)low start and was pounded into dust by the 9pm competition with a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating.
ABC's Revenge got off to a nice start, winning the 10pm hour with a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating and and 10.15 million viewers, 127% better than the premiere of The Whole Truth a year ago. Revenge bettered Ted Danson's debut on CSI's 3.1 adults 18-49 rating, but CSI won the hour in total viewers with 12.59 million. The Stabler-less Law & Order: SVU was last at 10pm with a 2.3 adults 18-49 and 7.6 million viewers.
More coming, check back

The 18-49 rating/share:
First number is rating, second number is share. This applies only to individuals in the 18 - 49 range (key demo for advertisers)
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Rating = % watching based on # of homes that own a TV
Share = % watching based on # of people watching TV last night
So for instance, 4.0/12 more or less means:
4% of all tv watching 18 - 49 year olds were watching X-Factor last night.
12% of all people age 18 - 49 that were watching TV last night at 8:00 PM were watching the X-Factor.
I mean your trying to sell a brand new singing competition product to American viewers and the only real selling point right now is the Paula-Simon reunion.
American Idol already has an 11 year head start.
I watched the Pilot a few days ago and didn't laugh once. Hank Azaria is a bad lead for a comedy.
Solid 18-49 numbers which is all that advertisers really care about. CSI is finally showing its age.
Free Agents is DOA. If it was on Fox they would already have announced its cancellation.

Face it, the DVR is killing live viewership. Hardly anyone is watching these expensive scripted shows live anymore and shows like Nikita, especially being on the CW, are suffering for it.
