Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

Sunday - <thead> </thead>
Scoreboard NBC FOX ABC CBS Uni
Adults 18-49: Rating/Share ** 3.8/9 2.5/6 2.2/5 1.2/3
Adults 18-34: Rating/Share ** 4.0/11 2.0/5 1.3/3 1.2/3
Total Viewers (million) ** 8.939 8.382 10.929 3.278

Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for NBC (NFL Football), Fox (NFL Overrun, 7-8pm) and CBS (Regional overruns) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

Of course the Sunday Night Football game between the NY Jets and New England Patriots will top the night for adults 18-49 and total viewers, but we'll have to wait for the final ratings to know by how much. Comparing just the primetime portions of the fast affiliate ratings, NBC's Sunday Night Football New England Patriots vs. New York Jets posted a 7.3 adults 18-49 rating from 8:30-11p, down from last week's Sunday night matchup (Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers), which delivered a 7.9 rating from 8:30-11p in the Fast Nationals before rising to an 8.8 rating from 8:31-11:48p in the Finals.

The Simpsons fell 5% vs. last week to a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating. Allen Gregory dropped a tenth from last week to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating. Family Guy was even with last week's 3.1 adults 18-49 rating and American Dad fell a tenth from last week to a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating.

Once Upon A Time was even with last week's 3.8 adults 18-49 rating. Desperate Housewives rose 7% to a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating. Pan Am was up a tenth of a point vs. last week to a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating. Still headed for Cancellation International Airport. Earlier in the evening, America's Funniest Home Videos rose 13% vs. its last new episode three weeks ago to a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating.

CBS had regional overruns of 29 minutes in about 12% of the US [atl, stl, new orl, phil, dc, balt, mia, cle] so expect adjustments to these preliminary numbers, so making comparisons to previous episodes is folly (but expect it to happen in other TV media) 60 Minutes had a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating. The Amazing Race drew a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating and The Good Wife scored a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating. CSI: Miami notched a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.

The X Factor was even with last week's 3.8 adults 19-49 rating, and that was enough to put Fox on top of the night's adults 18-49 ratings.

With ABC back to its normal Wednesday line up the week off didn't do it any favors, and The Middle fell 3% vs. its last new episode two weeks ago to a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Suburgatory also fell, down 10% to a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating. Modern Family dropped 4% to a season low 5.5 adults 18-49 rating. Happy Endings was down 6% to a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating. Revenge dipped 13% to a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating.

After being smacked a bit by the CMAs last week, CBS was up across the board as Survivor rose a tenth of a point vs. last week to a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating. Criminal Minds got a nice bump, up three tenths (9%) vs. last week to a 3.7 adults 18-49 rating. CSI was up a tenth of a point vs. last week to a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating.

NBC's Up All Night rose 6% vs. last week to a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. Harry's Law dropped 15% to a season low 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. Law & Order: SVU was steady with last week's season low 1.9 adults 18-49 rating.

CW's America's Next Top Modelstrong> was even with last week's 0.8 adults 18-49 rating.

Cable Ratings from Wednesday November 16th, 2011

American Horror Story ratings rightfully have FX PR crowing. It was up two tenths of a point vs. last week to a cable leading, and series high, 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.

South Park which tied AHS last week, went the other direction, losing three tenths of a point to a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating.

Psych was even with last week's 0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

Spike's The Ultimate Fighter had a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

MTV's Real World was also even with last week, at a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating.

Mythbusters was also even with last week, at a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating.

We only receive the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for the whole day from our source. If you don't see an original episode of a show here, it's because it wasn't in the top 100. If the show you're looking for isn't in the list, it doesn't mean it went down or even necessarily that it's lower than the shows in the list below, it just means we didn't see it.

Terra Nova pulled a 6.6 on Monday. I think this show is now dead.

On the Plus Side, Grimm continues to do well with a 5+ rating on a dead Friday.

Pardon the lack of updates, moving + vacation = no time.

That's what Terra Nova pulled in terms of total viewers. It technically pulled a 2.1 where it counts w/ 6.99m viewers (total # of viewers means much less than that 18 - 49) so there's still some hope for it, though a 2.1 is low for a show of this budget. It's one of the reasons why New Girl (3.3 rating), despite only pulling 6.79m viewers, is considered to be as valuable as a half hour of NCIS:LA (3.0 rating), which pulls 16.35m.

Grimm is pulling a 1.6 on Friday night which is low but not horrible when you compare it against its main competition (Supernatural and Fringe). If they are keeping the budget low on it the show could be safe.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

Wednesday, 1/11/2012 -

ABC comedies led ABC to an easy victory with adults 18-49 (CBS had a slight edge with press release friendly total viewers). The Middle was even with last week with a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating. Suburgatory was also even with a 2.9 rating. Modern Family fell nearly 11% to a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating though it was still easily the night's highest-rated show. Happy Endings was down a tenth to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating. Revenge dropped a tenth to a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating.

The new day/time for Whitney drew a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating at 8pm and the debut of Are You There, Chelsea? drew a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating. Sadly, the real question is "Are You There, American Idol?" Last night the answer was no, but next week is a different story...

CW's One Tree Hill returned with the best numbers in the time period for nearly a year, with a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating, a 1.2 adults 18-34 rating, a 1.8 women 18-34 rating to go along with its 1.75 million viewers.

The People's Choice Awards scored a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating between 8-10p...

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

Thursday 1/12/2012 -

Rob premiered to a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating, which is none too shabby. But don't get ahead of yourself. First, next week it faces the Thursday season premiere of American Idol, second keep in mind that back in the day $#*! My Dad Says premiered with a 4.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating before ultimately fading (to what still would've been good ratings for a comedy on any network not named CBS) and getting canceled. Still, CBS had its best 8:30p Thursday performance for a regularly scheduled program in viewers and adults 18-49 since Survivor on May 13, 2010.

Person Of Interest saw highs with adults 18-49 (3.2) and total viewers (14.7 million). The Mentalist's 2.7 adults 18-49 rating was even versus its last original. Earlier in the night The Big Bang Theory's 5.2 adults 18-49 rating was up 13% from its last original in early December.

ABC was second on the night though against original competition this week it fell across-the-board vs. last week. Wipeout was down 19% to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating and Grey's Anatomy was down 16% to a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating. Private Practice was down 11% to a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating.

30 Rock returned with a modest (by NBC standards) 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, down 31% from last season's premiere and its lowest rated season premiere ever. Parks & Recreation averaged a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating, up 13% from its last original five weeks ago and The Office's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating was flat vs. its last original. Up All Night's 2.0 in its new day/time was up 5% from its last Wednesday original. The Firm in its normal timeslot fell 29% to a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating. Hello, Saturday night?

Over on Fox it was a different story. Fox launched The Finder with an episode of Bones and that didn't go too well. Bones, on its own at 8p, could muster only a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating and the premiere of The Finder at 9pm could only find a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating. Normally that would lead to some very quick prognostications of doom, but all hope is not lost. Next week The Finder has the benefit of an American Idol lead in.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

Thursday at 10pm is just a horrible timeslot for NBC.

I think The Firm may get 1 more airing there, but realistically there is nothing to put there. I don't think NBC will want to waste Awake there and it's doubtful they will want to try comedy there again. I recall the 30 Rock/Outsourced hour last season was regarded as a failure. So don't hold your breath for Community to take The Firm's place.

I'm sure Parks & Rec would do great if it followed BBT.

I don't think NBC will want to waste Awake there and it's doubtful they will want to try comedy there again. I recall the 30 Rock/Outsourced hour last season was regarded as a failure. So don't hold your breath for Community to take The Firm's place.
They need a Boston Legal or House style comedy/drama for Thursday nights at 10. Harry's Law had a chance to but was kind of meh.

So you think they need to do something more light hearted/whimsical to get people to watch NBC at 10pm on Thursdays?

I find it intersting in this forum that the NBC comedies are very popular and the threads get alot of activity and discussion and yet they are the least watched shows in the country. While the popular top rated 1 hour dramas like Person of Interest, The Vampire Diaries and The Mentalist only get a blip here and there even though they have alot of serialized storylines that carry over episode to episode. I know Thursday is a pretty busy night, but is it just the time commitment? I guess it's easier to watch 4 sitcoms than 4 1 hour dramas in 1 night.

I do, yeah. It's weird going from whimsical comedy to super serious cop drama. Though it's sort of a tradition.

ER owned that timeslot for 15 seasons and did really well. It's surprising that they can't find 1 drama that reasonates with people. Southland before it moved to TNT had that timeslot after ER ended and did alright.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

Thursday 1/19/2011 -

With the 5 English broadcast networks all in new epdisodes (first time in 2012?), Fox topped the nights adults 18-49 ratings, but American Idol posted year to year decline similar to Wednesday night. And once the night of "Must See TV", NBC beat Univision by just 0.2 points among adults 18-49.

Update: Fox had Nielsen do a rush job on the time zone adjusted final national ratings and American Idol was adjusted up to a 5.7 adults 18-49 rating, which was down 27% vs. the 7.8 rating for last season's Thursday premiere. <del>No word on the half hour adjustments, BBT fans.</del>

Update 2: Idol updated half hours were a 5.2 and 6.3, so until we see BBT final adjustments, the 8pm hour is a tie.

<del>The second night of American Idol drew a 5.6 adults 18-49 rating, down 28% vs. a 7.8 rating for the first Thursday night last season, although it was down just 20% vs. the first Thursday hour last season. The half hours for American Idol were a 5.1 and a 6.1 adults 18-49 rating</del>. With a substantially stronger lead in than last week, The Finder was up to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating, increasing 29% vs. just a 1.7 for its premiere last week following Bones.

The Big Bang Theory's 5.2 adults 18-49 rating, <del>topped American Idol's 5.1 rating in the 8:00-8:30 half hour</del> (update: now tied pending any BBT adjustments) and was down just a tenth vs. a 5.3 rating last week. Facing Idol in its second outing, Rob had a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating, down a respectable 12% vs. a 4.1 rating for its premiere last week. Person Of Interest had a series high 3.3 adults 18-49, up a tenth vs. a 3.2 rating last week. The Mentalist's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating was up 7% vs. a 2.7 rating last week.

Wipeout was likely hurt by Idol, as its 1.8 adults 18-49 rating was down 18% vs. a 2.2 rating last week. Grey's Anatomy had a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating, down 11% vs. a 3.8 rating last week. Private Practice matched its season low 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 9% vs. a 2.3 rating last week.

30 Rock had a series low 1.6 adults 18-49 rating, down 11% vs. a 1.8 rating last week in its premiere. Parks & Recreation interestingly rose to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating, up 5% vs. a 1.9 rating last week. The Office's 2.9 adults 18-49 rating was even with last week's season low last week. Up All Night's 1.9 adults 18-49 ratings, was down 5% vs. a 2.0 rating last week. The Firm kept falling, its 0.9 adults 18-49 rating, was down 10% vs. a 1.0 rating last week. How many weeks until it moves to Saturday?

The CW's Vampire Diaries had a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 8% vs. a 1.2 rating last week. The Secret Circle drew a 0.7 adults 18-49 rating, down 12% vs. a 0.8 last week.

at this point, get rid of 30 Rock and replace it with Community. It's probably cheaper that way.

Person of Interest is on a roll, even though last night's episode was one of my least favorite this season.

Whatever they put at 8 will get canned. So Whitney should be given that spot, then Chelsea, then Up All Night.

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - 2011 - 2012 Season

30 Rock is produced in house by NBC and is pretty much a self promotional show. It's never gotten great ratings, but somehow manages to stay on the air.

Even though this forum loves the NBC sitcoms, they are some of the least watched shows in the country.

They get respectable 18 - 49 ratings, above 2 and you're good.
